I'm awful at poker and your opponents may suck. But.....don't EVER expect more than 1BB per hour and usually it's less. Just saying. PM me if you wanna talk about it.

At the end of the ye year you'll have a sick hourly and sick winrate but you will have less money than some of the wizards beating the game for 1 bb/hour
Once again John Locke crushes it. 20/40 is beatable for 50-60 per hour if you can cherry pick your seat/table perfectly. If you're trying to play 2000 hours a year it is not.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

Never said I expected anything... but I was hoping 1.5 was something I could reasonably strive for. I'm still struggling to put the 20/40 volume in because it's 45 minutes away and I have a great 8/16 game that I smash 5 minutes from my house.

I put in a lot of volume. 900 hours of 8/16 is a lot for someone that had a 30 hour a week job until October and played another 700 hours of non-8/16 poker. But I also try to focus my cash game hours on prime time where I don't have to worry too much about game selection (HH promos, Thurs/Fri/Sat, and post-4 PM) - and I almost always stay in the feeder games, which tend to be substantially better, plus they eventually get short-handed and that's when my edge is at it's largest. And my seat selection is on point.

So I'm not trying to cherry pick, but I'm also not showing up to the casino at 11 AM looking to leave at 7 PM when things are starting to get interesting.

I think it really depends where you are. Bay may have 20/40 24/7 and certainly 2-3 games for most of normal poker hours (10am-12am). People can probably cherry pick their games and get in all the volume they want too. I don't know what Commerce is like but I imagine it's at least as good. I assume there are places where you can't show up at 3am on a Tuesday and gambol but why would you want to live in those places?

I open KQo UTG, couple cold-callers, SB 3! BB call, I call, all call

T32r

SB bets, BB calls, I call because I suck but thankfully none of the other cold-callers raise.

Turn: T

SB, eyes downcast, shakes head...and bets. lol.

If only there was something you could do with that information.

...wait, assuming this is small stakes, raise quickly, then snap fold when it's back to you and laugh hysterically.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

Saturday's (and Tuesday's) are my 'days off' when mom's caregiver is here all day. I went to play 4-8 to pass the time bec my life is a wasteland w/ nothing to do. Even the dog shelter ppl haven't gotten back to me. Anyway, here's a hand w/ a smh:

7 limpers and I raise A-A in the SB, everybody calls, ofc.

Flop: A-J-J. I bet, get 4 callers. Turn 4. Bet, get one caller.

River: 4. Bet and guy calls. I flip over and he shows J-10o.

The smh: HOW IN THE WORLD DO I NOT GET RAISED BY JACKS FULL AT 4-8 lhe? How in the world?

There isn't supposed to be any '........like, duh' at 4-8 holding a FH.

My first low content post of the year is also my first small stakes holdem post from a new to me computer. This thing is awesome.

Oh good morning.

Good morning to you, too. I was rousted out of bed at the beastly hour of 8am to take mom's blood sugar. I liked things much better when the first thing I said in a new day was 'Good afternoon.' Congrats on the new machine.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

I am pretty against goal-setting in general but don't need to get into that. But if you must set goals, I'd just do the hours goals, table select as much as possible and then play the best you can. Setting a win rate goal seems like it could incentive counterproductive behavior like:
-sitting out games that are profitable but probably not ones you could beat for your goal winrate
-playing tighter than optimal if you find yourself ahead of the goal and want to protect it
-playing looser than optimal if you find yourself behind the goal and wanting to hit it

I find it very productive to set goals. I know win rate goals are a bit silly, but it's still fun to have a baseline of what I'd like to achieve. I'm certainly not doing any of the things you just listed. I just try to play the best I can every hand and let the results speak for themselves.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

I highly doubt I will play that particular one, but... I'm also not scared to. And you don't strike me as friendly.

Dude that won the bracelet in that event last year is from WA state. I've played with him @ the 20/40 level and he was easily the biggest fish in the game. Perhaps he wasn't taking it seriously - he certainly seemed determined to show how little the money meant to him - but he said a number of things that made me think he didn't understand some pretty basic concepts. He could have been trolling or drunk, or whatever, I dunno. What I do know is that I would be happy to see him in my game again. And he won this tournament. No one should be entering tournaments at stakes they can't afford to lose at anyways, so what's the worry? Tough field? Bring it on.
