Well, it's good to hear that again. And, yeah, it's got to be right to call w/ middle pair HU so I did it. My run-good, if you want to call it that, was hitting an Ace on the flop when I'd 4-bet w/ A-face. For Cepheus, when I saw what it'd done and was getting the chips, the run-good was a lot more fantastical.

First cepheus hand A9<99 on 7792 board

If there's one thing I learned from Cepheus - not that it's likely to be of any use bec the game isn't available - it's to 3-bet a button open 80% and barrel any flop. That feature put me in rough spots constantly.

This^

There are so many things I've picked up from this exercise that I've utilized when dabbling on ACR in short handed/HU limit that have worked.

Do not recommend limit on ACR though fwiw

Yes, I noticed that too.

I'm now 1-2 vs Cepheus (+400, -100, -700). Cepheus didn't 3 bet my button opens very often in my first match - I didn't realize how good I was running - not only was I getting good hands, but Cepheus had to be running really bad to rarely 3 bet. In my last match (my big loss), I tried a few different approaches to dealing with the frequent preflop 3 bets, including passively calling down, or increasing my 4 bets - none of these strategies seemed to work for me.

So are you guys actually improving your poker play by doing this or just trying to optimize your play against this one perfect opponent to lose the least amount?

Honestly it helped open my eyes to what moves a person could be doing in certain situations. Also, yes, my heads-up play improved dramatically after playing cepheus for a single session forever ago.

Fwiw I think a lot of people may get smarter playing it. It it will likely be worse fk their game overall.

I think this is a combination of (1) people will misunderstand or misapply certain concepts (2) they will try and use HU concepts in sh or for setting (3) they may be able to replicate one street of the game treee decision but will play vastly different on other streets making their original plays likely worse and most importantly (4) they will be trying to implement use/implement GTO concepts against people that are literally drooling over themselves and can make way more money jsut applying common logic and reason.

Now I think it's an amazing learning tool and think playing it is great, is jsut be careful if you take what you learn and try to apply it to your 8-16 games

That's right! No Cepheus fancy play at 8-16 which I grind at a boring but profitable pace. Never the big winner, just a grind.

Excellent points, Beale supports it (implying its that much more of a good idea), and I agree. The concepts don't extend much out of the HU realm.

After about 300 hands it started donking flops. I'm about breakeven
03-09-2017 , 08:53 PM
You're doing much better than I did! Keep it up. As for me, I've gone back to Stars play money to pass the time.

Cepheus four bet the turn after I check raised the flop on a T853 board with JT. Flop had a flush draw. River 6 and it bet again.

I've discovered how 'they' must be doing it! Be the huge winner that is:

1. Take 1mg xanax bec mom makes you crazy.
2. Scoot off to the poker room bec mom's caregiver is coming in an hour and get seated in a very loose-passive game.
3. Having fallen half asleep, limp UTG w/ 52 which everybody calls except for the button who raises and everybody calls.
4. Have flop come A34 and get someone else to cap it 6-ways.
5. Have board run out clean and get pushed the 6-scooper.
6. Have the willpower to get up and leave 20 minutes later bec you know you're going to go broke if you stay.
03-11-2017 , 12:48 PM
7. Have the 3d hit the river and make another players' full house and get a $150 high hand bonus on top.
03-11-2017 , 01:05 PM
I check-3! turn on 224-5 and get 4! by 63o. That seemed...optimistic

I knew that would be the perfect card but Talking Stick's a bit short on the promo side these days and the BBJ fund is whirling upwards again.

That's why you should be at the Orleans, where I am now!
03-12-2017 , 05:38 AM
I might drive up there when my sister and her fake husband visit in April just to get away. OTOH, it'd make mom crazy w/ jealousy plus my Nissan Versa (all 102 HP of it) will struggle to get there.
03-12-2017 , 11:59 AM
Nah, my old Corolla with 75 hp used to do it often. Not like there are super steep hills. Even the ones near the dam can probably be done near the speed limit. Just set the cruise control.

This being the era of TRUMP! I'm using a TRUMPism. My sister has never been married bec she was way, way, way too fussy when she was younger. She's been w/ this very likable fellow for 15+ years but he's never been married either and obv has a horror of it.

They are going to show up for two weeks, cuddle on the couch and watch TV shows that I hate, Andy - the traitor - squishes his way into them to get scratched and I lose my comfy chair for almost the entire time and have to sit in my den watching the worst TV on the market (Visio) that won't fit the picture properly. Come to think of it I ought to buy a different one at Wal-Mart w/ what I won yesterday. No more xanax and poker for me, that's for sure.

And, my Versa can hardly make it up the one hill in town, the poor little thing. Great car for Phoenix bec it's flat and gets 38 mpg but a trip to LV? IDK.
03-12-2017 , 04:38 PM
How has mom not bought you an Audi A8 so you can drive her to Orleans in style?
