My 2016 (Part 1)

My 2016 (Part 2)

Most of that talks about my 2016 WSOP, so cliffs relevant to this portion of the forum:
-finished @ 1.8 BB/HR in $8/$16 over 894 hours
-finished @ 0.84 BB/HR in $10/$20 or higher over 165 hours

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

So the biggest thing that happened to you last year was getting out of a debt you owed due to a technicality? After you go into details about how you've done everything in your power to avoid paying back your debt for 8 years???

So the rest of us pay higher medical insurance so you could get your procedure for basically free?

Wow, congrats!!! 2016 was a big year for you indeed!

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

Yeah man, I was pretty happy about the outcome. I pay for medical insurance now and I said in the post that I didn't think I handled this very well all the way back in 2008 when my life was in shambles, so yeah, I was pretty stoked not to have to pay the consequences of a mistake I made over eight years ago. And no, if you read the whole post it clearly wasn't the best thing that happened to me.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

Haha all star lanes. I used to drink and gamble there when I was in the Navy in the 2005-2006 period. But I went to Bremerton lanes a lot more. $2 blackjack and 4-8 LHE.

How did you spend your poker boom? :P

Also, I've played with Norman Chad a few times and thought he was pretty fun at the table. You might have just caught him on a bad day.

I used to think Carol Fuchs was a good player until she defended (Q3)3 in a stud 8 tournament against me after I opened xx3 with 3 other low cards and a queen between us. Whatever, she has plenty of money outside poker and can afford to play silly. I agree she's generally pretty friendly at the table.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

I bought a house and paid off a student loan but mostly I used it to pad my bankroll so I can do this damn thing.

Bremerton Lanes is closed. So is Chips in Bremerton. All Star was getting brutal too - by the time I left in August last year there was rarely a second game and usually dead by 11 PM most nights.

Oh wait, did you mean poker boom, as in 2004-2006?

I was in Shoreline, playing in the Aurora casinos and spinning up a bankroll online, dropping out of college, "enjoying" full blown alcoholism, thinking I had it all figured it out and digging myself a hole so big it would take me a decade to get out of completely! 😀

I did make sporadic appearances in Kitsap during that time but I didn't move back until mid-2006.

Pope, if it makes you feel any better maybe karma caught up with me when I was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic in late 2014 at age 32, so I pay more than my fair share for health insurance and medical supplies.

This is overly harsh. He admitted that evading the payments was childish and stupid. (And it was.)

But, medical companies routinely wildly inflate the bills to begin with, so if the original bill was 5x what it should be in an ideal world, and they cut it in half (to 2.5x), then DarkKnight paid 40%, he would have paid what he would have paid in an ideal world. Insurance companies negotiate much lower rates than the wildly inflated "face" rates by lowering the uncertainty of non-payment; your insurance company would have gotten a lot smaller bill than DK did. And yes, it's a stupid system, but it's the system and if he's able to get off on a technicality, that's already priced in. These safeguards exist because process servers aren't saints either.

Pay your bills next time, DK. And you should save up $20k and donate it to charity because you just received $20k worth of charity.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

1/2/3 NL 3 limpers I raise to 21 OTB, all call. Flop A(K9)s I bet 85 and SB calls me with what he later admits was 33. BB calls all-in for 60ish, EP calls with like 10ish behind, MP calls with 20-ish behind. SB announces check dark and I stack my remaining chips (120ish) to bet dark but dealer is too fast so technically the offsuit 5 comes out before I go all-in. SB (who covers me) tanks before folding. The remaining two people make the 40:1 call. River is Qo and I proudly roll ATs like it's the nuts. And each of my opponents, in turn, has to bemoan the fact that I'm dragging a $500 triple headshot pot with one pair before folding. Then SB chimes in about how he put me on one pair and floated the flop so he could take it away from me on the turn.

Sounds like you could've made more money by checking the turn

Serious question. How many phones have you broken in the last let's say 3 years?

Those are actually pretty epic results. Well done. My career WR in 20/40 or higher is definitely under 1 bet per hour, probably something like .7 or .8

Oh you have the "reboot loop" problem. Third person that I personally know that that's happened to. My Nexus 6P is going strong FWIW you people are all insane.

6 phones in 3 years by 3 people one of whom barely has opposable thumbs isn't really that bad. DosEquis wife literally has a noted problem of getting out of the car with the phone on her lap. Like, it's happened 2-3 times.

That's about what I managed when I played 20 and I'd been winning $15/hr at 8-16 until I hit the wall recently. Maybe when I get back into things I can pull off a great year also.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

I think a majority of America has a huge smart phone leak. Quite the waste of money.

This guy at my work constantly makes fun of me for my old phone that can only text and make calls.

He then is bragging about his phone that he only used for solitaire and phone calls and can't even figure out how to change the ring tone on.

He said this to me "If my wife went out on a date with you and saw your phone, there wouldn't be a second date because that shows that you can't support her" or something similar. LOL

Yikes. I think the 20/40 in my area is beatable for > than 1 BB/HR but that's a bit discouraging coming from you. I was hoping something like $60 an hour was achievable.

You can do things like play 30-60 and ofc on your smart phones. A couple hundred dollars is a relatively small investment

Iv've said this before but will post again, this is a flawed way of looking at win rates or your hourly. 20-40 is beatable for $60 is you game select/seat select (not by anybody but certainly by some). What this means though is you show up at the casino see a ok game that you can beat for $20 hour and say I think I'll pass then sit around waiting at the bar unitl the game is at least a $40 hour spot.

At the end of the ye year you'll have a sick hourly and sick winrate but you will have less money than some of the wizards beating the game for 1 bb/hour
