What file is showing when it hangs?

Also are you using the most recent release 0.29.907? There were a couple of important MySQL fixes in that.

single draw as i remember! I tried postgres but no luck for that, so I switch to MySQL and follow the instructions on fpdb wiki. Is bulk importing using SQLite, then change to MySQL later an option here?

Ya got the recent update.

No you need to import into the correct database, converting isn't an option.

Can you send me the failing file(s) please. There were some updates for draw stats in the most recent release, so we may have broken something.

Fpdb can't read directly from the poker client, only from files stored onto the harddrive or emails sent by the poker site. You could contact support and ask them to email you your HHs? I suppose you could copy&paste from the chat window, but tbh, wouldn't that just be way too much effort to actually do all the time when playing?

Cant import some of the holdem tourney as well, using mySQL server 5.5, wonder if I set it up wrong. Auto import runs fine on both draw and holdem game with MySQL

I've installed the latest version of fpdb in order to try it out with Stars. I have imported my hand histories and the viewers are working perfectly, great work. Auto-Import seems to be working fine too, but I am not seeing the HUD for some reason. Is this a known issue? is there a resolution. I have tried multiple forum searches including going back through this thread but as yet have not found any solution.

After more thorough searching of this thread, I tried one of the suggested solutions and now I have a working hud. Great work on this software, I haven't had chance to play around with customised HUDs yet but so fair it looks great.

This worked for me (Highlighted in blue). Though I do believe all your software languages must be set to english, make sure your HH are in english and your fpdb too.

Update for those having problems with 0.29.xxx

We are making progress, and now understand what is causing many of the "fpdb or hud not working correctly" problems. Thanks to Freeman_ in Portugal who has helped us to discover the reasons.

Hopefully the following information will help most people who are currently having problems:

a) for those people who have fpdb and hud working normally, but find that Tournament result import is very slow:
Please install version 0.29.905.1

b) if fpdb is starting normally, but you don't get a hud for some (or all) tables on Pokerstars:
Please change the pokerstars client language settings (language/play in) to be "English". This should allow the hud to discover the poker table. fpdb will need a software change to allow players to play in their local language on Pokerstars.

c) if you use Vista or Win7:
The windows account used to play poker, and to run fpdb must have administrator rights. This is set in the control panel.

d) if fpdb is starting normally, but no hands are imported:
Please check that the hand histories are being written, and that they are in English. On pokerstars, these settings is in options/instant hand history options.

e) if your windows username contains a character which is NOT in the english alphabet (e.g. accented characters or other local language characters):
You will probably be having problems making fpdb work correctly. We will need to make software changes to fix this - these changes are a priority, but will take some time to identify and fix. The short term work-around is to try fpdb using a windows account which has English characters only, (and is an administrator account on Vista/Win7).

If you still have difficulty,
Please try a fresh configuration file. (this guide http://****************/apps/mediawik..._Configuration should help)

Hello,

thank you for offering such a great program and the ongoing support. I have been using fpdb for some time now and so far was able to solve my problems on my own using wiki or google.
However, I now run into some trouble that apparently I'm unable to solve.

Since my # of HHs reached a point where a switch from SQLite to MySQL seems mandatory, I installed MySQL 5.5.23 and configured it successfully (standard config).
Bulk importing works fine until it would stop at certain files. I narrowed the issue down to bulk import having problems with files larger than 256kb (my largest individual file being 400kb; files smaller than 256kb import correctly and cash stats are visible).

The fpdb error log reads:

fpdb startet ...Traceback (most recent call last):
File "GuiBulkImport.pyc", line 110, in load_clicked
File "fpdb_import.pyc", line 242, in runImport
File "fpdb_import.pyc", line 301, in importFiles
File "fpdb_import.pyc", line 533, in import_file_dict
File "Hand.pyc", line 298, in insertHandsPlayers
File "Database.pyc", line 2106, in storeHandsPlayers
File "MySQLdb\cursors.pyc", line 223, in executemany
File "MySQLdb\cursors.pyc", line 316, in _query
File "MySQLdb\cursors.pyc", line 280, in _do_query
_mysql_exceptions.OperationalError: (2006, 'MySQL server has gone away')

I searched the web for solutions to "2006, 'MySQL server has gone away'". The most common one suggests to increase the 'max_allowed_package' variable in the 'my.ini' file from 1M to 8M or bigger. First of all, I could not find this line, secondly my largest individual files are still under 1M big and increasing that number appears to not solve the issue. Needless to say, I raised this variable in the other myXYZ.ini files nevertheless but the bulk import would still stop at files larger 256kb.

I appreciate any help and thank you in advance. Furthermore, I can send you HH files who fail to import, if requested.
(On a side note: files who fail to import correctly don't show up in the cash stats tab but are accounted for under database>stats>total hands etc.)

Kind regards,
Doc

Today I installed Carbon, so I could swim with the apparent ocean of fish there, however the stats windows aren't appearing??
The program can "see" my HH's as I can see it processing them in the import window, ticking by...
I was wondering if you could provide some insight, as to possible causes.

Sorry cjm2009, unless we have a text file (or some other data representation) to work with we can't support the site.

Not at the moment.

I believe Chaz was looking at providing this as a feature, but it requries a database schema change which means that it won't happen until at least the 0.30 release.

Could you expand on this please? What podcast?

Do you have anything in ~/.fpdb/log/HUD-log.txt that looks relevant?

Linux + Wine + Stars is probably the best supported platform, i'm curious what your issue might be.

MySQL 5.5.23
Memory: 512MB
I've not able to trigger that exact message, but I am able to trigger another issue when I throw a 12Mb file at it.

Code:
  File "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/MySQLdb/cursors.py", line 280, in _do_query
    db.query(q)
_mysql_exceptions.OperationalError: (1153, "Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes")
Setting max_allowed_packet = 64M allowed my to import that file successfully, but I fail again importing a 20Mb file. So we need to fix this. I've logged the issue as http://****************/apps/mantisbt...iew.php?id=159

In the process, i've managed to trigger a new bug when recreating tables:
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./fpdb.pyw", line 530, in dia_recreate_tables
    t.importer.database.resetPlayerIDs()
AttributeError: Database instance has no attribute 'resetPlayerIDs'
I've fixed that now at least

I also tried the reverse of what was recommended and shortened wait_timeout to 10 to try and trigger the 2006 message and i'm now able to trigger the issue, but having done that i've found something that makes me believe this is a windows only issue.

From http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/gone-away.html

Quote:
You are using a Windows client and the server had dropped the connection (probably because wait_timeout expired) before the command was issued.

The problem on Windows is that in some cases MySQL does not get an error from the OS when writing to the TCP/IP connection to the server, but instead gets the error when trying to read the answer from the connection.
...
The solution to this is to either do a mysql_ping() on the connection if there has been a long time since the last query (this is what Connector/ODBC does) or set wait_timeout on the mysqld server so high that it in practice never times out.
If you are using MySQL 5.1 or later you should be able to set wait_timeout in my.ini to something vary large to work around the issue. Are you able to try this for me please?

Logging this issue as http://****************/apps/mantisbt...iew.php?id=160

I haven't posted this recently so a reminder:

When you do report issues, try to make it easier for us help you. We usually need at least the
following information:
  • - FPDB version
  • - Operating system and version (e.g. Linux Mint 12 or Windows 7 64bit)
  • - Database type (MySQL, SQLite, PostgreSQL)
  • - Install method (exe, tarball, deb, git, ebuild)
  • - Site name and gametype (e.g. $10 Pokerstars Razz SnG)
  • - Translation: What language is FPDB displaying in. If the language is not English, can you please reproduce the issue while using the English translation first
  • - Errors from the log files. There is now a copy to clipboard function to assist this. We are usually looking for lines containing WARNING and ERROR.

Most of these details are available for easy copy & paste in the Help menu under About or in Help->Log Messages (Use copy to clipboard)

Without these details they are the first thing we are going to ask for.

Hello,

I sat down today and tried to make MySQL bulk import files larger than 256kb correctly. Unfortunately, I did not succeed.
After I went back to SQLite for the past few days, I re-installed MySQL 5.5.23 (Win32) and was able to configure it correctly and have it run for fpdb 0.29.907.
However, it still fails to bulk import files bigger than 256kb. FPDB just stops responding and the same '2006' message appears in the error log.
I tried to work around this by manually editing the 'my.ini' file as suggested, but neither was there a 'wait_timeout' line nor a 'max_allowed_package' line to be changed.
For documentation purpose I copy+paste the 'my.ini' (deleted all descriptions and XXX other parts for privacy safety reasons):

I manually added the 'max_allowed_package' line with a numeric value in the 'MySQL' section of the 'my.ini' file, but fpdb would crash even with files smaller than 256kb, so I deleted it again. Furthermore, it appears to make no difference starting fpdb with the run_fpdb.bat or fpdb.exe, as the problem remains.

------------------

Apologies in advance, but in a different matter I noticed two more things.

First, using SQLite and HUD a few days ago, my HUD error log reported the following issue:

Unhandled exception in thread started by <bound method HUD_main.read_stdin of <__main__.HUD_main object at 0x027CF610>>
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "HUD_main.pyw", line 273, in read_stdin
File "Database.pyc", line 881, in get_stats_from_hand
sqlite3.OperationalError: database is locked

I rarely use HUD, so I did not notice it earlier and have no clue what it means.

Secondly, I played ZOOM cash games in the past 3 days and the fpdb-log comes up with the following message (not an error, and hands are imported correctly using SQLite, but I thought I bring this up, but disregard it, if it's a known issue):

2012-04-22 03:05:39,812 - parser INFO HandHistory init - PokerStars site, PokerStarsToFpdb.PokerStars subclass, in_path 'C:\XXX\PokerStars\HandHistory\XXX\HH20120418 XXX - XXX - USD Pot Limit Omaha_Zoom.txt'; out_path '-'

2012-04-22 03:05:41,967 - parser INFO readButton: nicht gefunden
...
(nicht gefunden = not found in german)
Any hint or idea for me, please?

I apologize for this long report and thank you for any input or help!

There are a couple changes I would make, but I can't guarantee that they'll fix the problem.

Go ahead and add:

max_allowed_packet = 100M (...after 'max_connections=100')
innodb_buffer_pool_size = 410M (....before 'innodb_additional_mem_pool_size=2M')

Then change:

query_cache_size = 16M
myisam_max_sort_file_size = 256M

And rename 'table_cache' as:

table_open_cache = 256

After you're done, reboot the mysql server, or alternatively you can just restart your computer. Since you're running in INNODB mode, nothing in the *** MyISAM Specific options should matter (figured we'd lower myisam_max_sort_file_size just to be safe).

After you've rebooted, you can double check that the changes you've made have taken effect by typing into the MySQL command prompt:

show variables like 'max_allowed_packet';

If it's set to 100M, then you're good. If not, then MySQL Server isn't using the changes you've made which could have something to do with your windows permissions. When possible, always run these things 'As Administrator'.

Not sure why max_allowed_packet wasn't taking for you the first time. It's definitely something you'll want to set higher than default.

Also, I just submitted a patch that should fix this problem in another way, provided this doesn't work for you. sorrow's got to look it over, but I image we're getting pretty close to cutting another release. We'll keep you posted.

Sorry for the headache. Trust me, I feel your pain.
