Re: Has the side pot bug caused any problems?

Thanks, was just wondering if this might have some strange effects. Eventually I will try to replay some of these messed up hands and see if they make any difference.

Seems unlikely he'll try charging later. For one thing, this has become such a moral debate, it'd be a stretch for Juk to say "I've abandonded my faith. Gimme $50."

For another, he already released the source.

yeah i edited that in in case he did decide to charge. i didn't want to go say i had tons of respect for him for doing all this stuff for us and make him feel guilty if he had intentions of charging. he should charge. the fact that he doesn't is very respectable.

Re: Free Party Hand Grabber v0.01 available

(1) Download and install Autohotkey.

(2) Right-click desktop (or whatever location on your disk), choose New > Autohotkey Script.

(3) Right-click file, choose Edit Script.

(4) Paste in whatever script, save and close.

(5) Double-click file to run script.

Re: Free Party Hand Grabber v0.01 available

hi,
great program and thanks for releasing it for free.
I'm having some problems with it missing a lot of hands (~50%), which I think is due to having an old computer (p2-266). cpu usage is continuely at 100%. I've tried messing around with the process priority and delay settings, but haven't been able to get it working much better (tried increasing and decreasing both of these). Do you have any suggestions for improving it, or is my computer just too slow?

Thanks!

People aren't evil or wrong for trying to make money off their work. I worked on PA Hud full time for five months before charging. I regularly put in 40+ hours a week on support and development. There is no way I could've continued working on it if I wasn't making a little money with it.

I bolded the important parts. I think Juk objected to the $50 pricetag on the day of coding for PHT, when Pokerace costs half that. (I PAHud.)

Yes, the way it works then it is likely to miss hands if system is old or is under strain and altering the delay or the priority wont help if its just running out of cycles. It may be possible to look for memory segments which have a certain 'footprint' (address range, size, read/write access, ...); meaning not all memory is polled continuously, but I haven't looked into this much yet.

I just don't want to spend ages on this, if eventually it gets banned or blocked, but if I get time then I will look into this, as even on my system (1.4GHz/512MB which is fairly old by today's standards) it eats alot of CPU time.

I would try making sure all windows are minimized/off-screen and possibly try to reduce the graphics load as much as possible (possibly try using 16/8bit colour while mining).

If I can think of any other ideas that may help I will post back

Juk

Re: FPHG v0.01 available

I don't think anyone was referring to you (or to PT Pat) when they talked about moneygrubbers and windfall profiteering.

Most of us recognize that your projects are much more complex, not something that was knocked out in a few hours, and that ongoing support is expensive and time consuming. Rest assured that your pricing is not the subject of this debate.

I think this thread got lost in the discussion:

Quote:
I agree that people should be able to make $ from their software if they so wish, and that the efficient market hypothesis should be the deciding factor on pricing: I have seen poker software selling for 1/2 of this which have obviously had many 100's of man hours going into them, and these are the projects I would like to see succeed, and would happily buy myself. These would be a major bit of software engineering for anybody to undertake.
Sorry if I came across as being a hater of all payware software, as I am not! It was just the author tried to claim it was some huge undertaking to grab some memory and dump it to disk (and then try to charge 2x more than PAHUD for about 1% of the man hours).

Hope this clears things up - Juk

Poker Ace is great, I appreciate the work you put into it, and I'm sure everyone else does, also I would have happily paid substantially more for it. Same goes for Poker Tracker, these utilites have been well worth the money many times over.

Juk, whatever you think about charging, I think you should set up a donation service (however that is done). I would be first in line.

HA HA HA.

Excellent work and good coding. Much respect for freeware. Even more respect for not changing your name and also not charging ABSOLUTELY CRAZY PRICES for a fairly quick project to put together.

Its good to see their are two footballs in the playground that people can play ball with. I always hated the kid with the ONLY football in the play ground who thought he had so much power.

Sexual.
p.s. Cant msg you, seems there are "quotas" per day.

PHT does more than just dump some memory to disk and it did cost me a lot of time to get it done without missing too many hands and without killing the CPU in the process. Reading that memory is just the beginning and getting a user friendly product with different options for different users is another thing. Hats down to PokerAce, I cannot compare myself to his eforts. Congrats to you Juk for your proof of concept, as I said I have nothing against competition. However I do have the bad habit of putting value on my work and not giving it away for free.
