I think this is an awesome idea and a really nice piece of work but I'm not sure I'd use it when playing, but you should really run with this, every day at the casinos young internet players are sitting for the first time and they would love this.

This is something I'm a little wary of adding to the program, it seems fairly sketchy to be photographing people in a casino... right?

Right

A lot cardrooms around here won't let you use your phone at the tables.

Is that different in most other places?

1. In projecting the outcome of the game;
2. In keeping track of the cards played;
3. In analyzing the probability of the occurrence of an event relating to the game; or

You do what you have to do, but teddyFBI is right.

No Nevada casinos will allow this. If they did, they would be jeopardizing their license. If it is detected, you will be taken to the back room by security people who have absolutely no sense of humor, searched (more thoroughly than you wish), fingerprinted, and photographed. And that is before they call the police. They have that authority.

It is cool though.

I'm not sure if I should laugh at this or just shake my head.

I'll give OP credit that it's original, but, imo, totally unnecessary if you pay attention at the table.

There are phones with cameras on the screen side. One could use a fish eye lens to discreetly capture images of opponents.

All poker rooms in Las Vegas allow players to use phones at the table, as far as I know. You can also use the tracker in rooms that don't allow phone use during hands by entering data between hands, keeping the phone in your pocket.

OP was a great idea imo, even if casinos allow to use it or not... its still a damn good idea. And i dont know if someone already said this (havnt read thru all the post yet), but i think u should have the option of putting a person's name or something for easier identification (along with the seat number). Also u should be able to save data on players so u can use them later if u happen to play them again.

Naming and saving players will be part of the next update.

Lolz, was expecting thread to be a level, but I really like the idea.

Might encourage me to actually pay attention when playing live!

Def get 3B on there, Att to Steal should be easy enough as well?

How is the Android version of this coming along?

Slowly. Does Android have good bankroll tracking software? I'm thinking about including a simple bankroll record keeper to Donkey Tracker....

Att to steal is a little more complicated, but I can include that as well.

This is one way to get your ass kicked. You cannot take photos in casinos. Can you imagine how suspicious people would be of you using this. They might think you are going to follow them home.

I'd be willing make a bet that you cannot accurately guess even half the table's basic VPIP and PFR with even a 10 point error allowance. Some people who are playing 55/7 are imagined to be playing 12/8 by experienced pros. It's basically impossible.

While I agree that taking photos of strangers is fairly inappropriate, I have taken photos of my friends in casinos and I don't think there is a problem with that.

I agree, it will be tedious and a distraction from tells. As far as pricing, why would I pay anything when I could just show up with a pencil and paper? Or even build/find a similar program, because it's pretty basic. I think $10-15 would be a very fair price and would fit in better with the price of other apps. $15-25 would be selective, and would introduce some competition. Anything above $25 and your asking for some competition, which WILL step in at some point the question is when? Being that you most likely have little to no proprietary information or techniques, you should seek a professional to help you facilitate a patent or trademark.

Turns out it is more difficult to create an Android app than I thought. Is that what you're interested in, or were you asking about updates to the iOS version?
08-06-2011 , 06:11 PM
You can easily record players' VPIP, PFR, etc. with just a pen and paper. So if poker rooms band the use of phones at the table because of this app or any other, then you can argue that your just taking a short cut for what you would be jotting down on paper anyways. Greg Raymer takes notes with a pen and pad, and many other players do too.

Android version is ready and should be in the store soon; I've never submitted an app to the marketplace before so not sure how long it will take to be available for download.
