Summary of Recent Updates:

1. Improved auto-difficulty levels, providing a better learning experience. Further enhancements are still needed for the vs 3b scenario.
   
2. Added the option to select open raise for 50bb simulations. Updates for 40bb and 30bb simulations are coming soon.
   
3. Conducted research on optimal raise sizes for different stack sizes. For 70bb+, pot-sized raises are optimal. For 50bb and 40bb, pot-sized raises are still optimal, except for the button where a 75% raise performs better. Smaller raise sizes have almost identical expected value (EV) in the 40bb scenario. The 30bb stack size is particularly challenging, with a 75% raise size being optimal for UTG and BTN, while Pot-sized raises are slightly better for CO.
   
4. Updated the 70bb simulation (with mid rake) to include more 3bet cold-calling scenarios. The 100bb simulation will be updated soon.
   
5. Added the ability to check how to play the current hand from the trainer and easily return to your trainer session during study.

My name is Victor, I’m co-founder and responsible for development of PLO Genius.

I’d like to welcome you personally by a short article about very common spot: BTN facing 3b from blinds.

I’ve found that it’s being misplayed by many players (partly for the reason - we discuss it later).

In publicly available sims BTN isn’t slowplaying many AA, usually something around 10%.
My educated guess for this is due to the limitation of the simulations, which typically allow for only PSB in 4bP. While this work well in general for situations with SPR less than 1, it may not suffice when the ranges are very narrow.

When you allow players to bet smaller, both on flop and turns - suddenly solver adds many more slowplays with AA pre flop.

Why is that?
The reason behind this is that the OOP player can leverage smaller bet sizes to extract additional
EV on favourable boards (e.g., KJ7, QT8) by forcing IP to put extra money with weak AA.
By slowplaying certain AA hands, you can prevent this, while maintaining dominance over hands like AKK/KK which your opponent might fold against a 4b.
Another benefit of slow playing more often with AA is protection vs PSB CB in 3bP, where OOP exploits IP weakness on board such as J62 or AKx.

How much you can earn by slow playing AA?
It depends on exact combo, but you can expect extra 0.1 to 0.5bb (each time when you call instead of 4b with correct combo. Most profitable slow plays are AA54 AA53 AA43.

But should you really slow play in your real games? It’s a tricky question. Average player folds to 4b significantly less than what is optimal (36% in mid rake environment).

I will delve deeper into this topic in our inaugural newsletter for subscribers. But for now, I would advise you to practice and develop the discipline needed to make the right folds when you're in the blinds against a 4b.
By doing this effectively, you could easily win an additional 4bb+ each time you fold a non-trivial hand correctly against a 4b.

May I ask, how come there is no option to limp BvB in many of your sims? I've never seen a preflop sim where it isn't at least a reasonably high frequency option.
Is it an option trimmed for efficiency of computation or have you actually determined it is not strategically valuable?

Looking at PLO40bb and comparing it to PLO50bb, going from a strat of {11% fold, 69% limp, 20% raise} to a {60% fold, 39% raise} feels like a really weird jump, to me. Especially knowing that limping is present at high numbers even at much higher stack depths. What causes the insane strategic difference between the 30bb sim and the 40bb sim (30bb has 40% fold in SB with a much more normal looking 30 30 limp and raise distribution)?

Is there anywhere you've outlined the details of the various sims and their parameters?

We've rolled out a unique set of sims highlighting short-stack play among full stacked players.
It's not just interesting but mirrors many real cash games.

Having had an early peek into the results, here are some key insights I've gathered:


Positional advantage amplifies with stack depth.
This directly influences opening ranges. For instance, an UTG increases his range from 16.9% to 17.4% when faced with a short-stacked player on the button. Conversely, his range tightens (reducing to 15.9%) with a short-stacked player in the BB, as the positional benefit diminishes. The same pattern is evident across all positions.

3-Way play becomes particularly challenging for big stacks when there's a small stack involved.
Consequently, when faced with squeezes from a short stack, the pre-flop raiser leans more towards a 4-bet / fold strategy. UTG, after a BTN call and a short-stacked SB squeeze, only calls 11.5%, compared to 54% in an all-full-stack situation. I found this very surprising!

A Short Stack prioritizes lowering SPR multiway.
It's less about indulging in any multiway pots and more about managing the spr. Shorts defending ranges against PFR and acall resemble those in full stack scenarios, but they exhibit considerably wider squeeze ranges.

I recommend diving deep into these simulations. Familiarize yourself with the subtle changes and understand the table dynamics when there's a short-stacked player present.



PS: TianYuan - In a raked environment, a SB strategy that mixes opens and limps doesn't outperform a simple open raise. It's not a worthwhile investment of your study or play time.

If you're particularly interested in it anyway (you suspect your opponents would play very poorly against it or you'd like to get an idea of how to play against limps), you can find some in our app as alternative SB strategies for certain stack sizes.

Do you have preflop solutions for games with antes? All PLO games I play have a 0.5bb ante.

Hi! Unfortunately, we don't have preflop sims with antes.

Can you guys add pot open sims for 30bb? I notice that you have pot open for 25bb and 40bb but 30bb doesn't. Instead 30bb will 3x open everywhere except for BTN, which is 2.25x.

30bb pot open preflop is the main thing I want to study right now, and since PLO Genius doesn't have it, I'll be using the PLO Mastermind trainer instead which does.

I have a feature request.

I'd like to have the ability to upload custom ranges for use with the trainer.

For example, I have different simulations I've run in MonkerSolver where I've node locked certain frequencies to come up with exploitative ranges. I'd like to be able to study these ranges within PLO Genius. This also applies for non-exploitative ranges where PLO Genius does not have the corresponding stack size (for example 30bb Heads-Up).

RunItOnce's PLO Vision app has this feature and it would be phenomenal if PLO Genius had it as well.

Yes it is on our roadmap, we definitely will add it.
