Sup bros,
I'm a long-time shorthanded 1/2 and 2/4 NL player who no longer plays online (lol US gov't) but is looking to earn some money while pursuing non-poker options.
The above is verifiable by looking at
my TableRatings profile, which shows similar numbers. I was in the top 50 biggest winners of all time on TR for both 1/2 and 2/4 on Full Tilt through the end of 2010, at which point I stopped putting in heavy volume.
1. $315 for a detailed written analysis of a 45-minute video w/ your commentary.
2. $105/hour for traditional sweating/talking/database review (Skype/TeamViewer).
I accept payments via PayPal, Moneybookers, wire transfer, Western Union, money order, cashier's check, personal check (must clear prior to services being provided), etc. I'll do my best to accommodate just about anything except a poker site transfer (lol US gov't). Please PM me to discuss.
I made seven videos for CardRunners back in 2008 (average video rating was 4.2/5). I've also coached sporadically in the past. Among other things, I am known for:
1. Writing lengthy poker theory articles (
1,
2,
3,
4,
5 ... a couple of these are in the stickied SSNL links thread and most of them have been posted and reposted in various Internet locations).
2. Using as hefty of a HUD as anyone and constantly considering statistics when forming reads and making decisions.
3. Starting as many tables as any other player at my stakes and taking 100% of comers heads up in hopes of keeping as many juicy games running as possible.
4.
Keeping things light.
5.
Not being a prick.
I'm comfortable coaching heads up, though you'd probably be better off with a heads up specialist if you're looking to focus solely on that form of poker. I'm willing to coach full ring and am confident in my ability in that arena, but again, if that's your game, it probably makes more sense to look into a full ring coach.
What I'm not offering:
1. World-class coaching that will send you to nosebleeds.
2. Coaching from someone who's playing the games right now. I care neither to battle the silly US gov't on this nor to move out of the country, so I haven't played online since April. FWIW, I have played 100+ hours of live poker since the ban. I understand that this will be a deal breaker for some. My hope is that the vast majority of prospective students will realize that A) my former win rate isn't achievable without the ability to adjust to all possible game conditions and B) I acknowledge the negative and have accounted for it in my coaching rate.
What I am offering:
1. Reasonably-priced coaching that will help you destroy the micros and win solidly through 1/2.
2. Coaching that stresses the thinking behind decisions over decisions themselves. "Give a man a fish..."
3. A unique coaching style. While I've received good feedback from the recipients of my "traditional" coaching (sweating), I encourage students to produce videos with commentary (via the use of
CamStudio or some similar software) so that I can produce and email thorough minute-by-minute writeups. I prefer this arrangement for two reasons: A) It allows for flexibility with regard to time (on both my end and students' ends), which is always nice and is especially nice if there's a significant difference between the time zone of a student and his/her coach and B) It ensures that I'll be able to transfer 100% of my thoughts on tricky hands (when receiving "live" coaching, often students only receive their coaches' first two or three thoughts due to quickly-moving action/time constraints). While most coaches would probably be happy to provide written analysis on videos produced by students, I believe you'll get more detail in my writing and find it more pleasant to read. At the risk of coming off as arrogant, writing is natural for me and as a result, I submit that my preferred method of coaching ("$315 for a detailed written analysis of a 45-minute video w/ your commentary") stacks up well against any alternative for micro/small stakes NL players in terms of bang for the buck.
4. Constant availability. I'm looking to distinguish myself by supplementing paid lessons with free 24/7 poker discussion. I have a smartphone on which I frequently check email and texts. If you're a student of mine who has a hand or strategy question with which you're looking for help, email/text it to me and I'll respond as soon as reasonably possible. NLHE strategy discussion is fun for me.
5. If you live in or near New York City, I'm happy to set up some sort of in-person arrangement.
6. Trustworthiness. If you're considering hiring me as a coach, please ask around. I have a good reputation in this community for good reason.
I can supply references if requested, but it might make more sense to throw a quick post up in one of the strategy forums and ask long-time Full Tilt regulars about my game (and/or long-time strategy posters about my strategy posts). Of course, if you're a CardRunners member, you can also watch my videos there.
FWIW, I'm 25 years old. I graduated w/ a finance degree from Washington University in St. Louis a few years ago and am in the process of transitioning to a position in finance.
