Re: Short Stacking and 20bb CAP Strategy

I'm an MTT coach specializing in the same sort of stuff that Lorin does here - namely, short-stack play. I've never had anyone complain about my offering my services, but for some reason Lorin is maligned for peddling videos a great number of people are interested in and a great number more should be interested in. The opprobrium that's built up on this page is idiotic and ought to be ignored.

I'm two days removed from having watched all the videos, and even at this stage - where the digestion is, as of yet, incomplete - I'm on a sick heater applying Lorin's concepts to the stakes at which I'm grinding - $.50/$1 - to build up a roll. The material is cleanly and eloquently presented in a series of PowerPoints. Lorin seems very intelligent, the kind of guy that could sustain a monologue for 5+ hours - the duration of the material. The methodology is a bit dogmatic at times, but there's nothing wrong with presenting a system and encouraging students, when they've mastered it, to deviate - which is exactly what Lorin has done.

Speaking as a coach, I endorse Lorin's teaching methods, and I encourage anyone who's interested in this maligned form of grinding to check them out. Like all good poker coaching, it should pay for itself within a week.

I'll post graphs in a couple weeks or so, after going over the material again and, hopefully, integrating it completely into my play. But at this very early stage, I'm very happy I came to Lorin.

If all else fails, I might resort to this as well.. hopefully it never happens.. I might be back in a year with the way things are going though so who knows.

These videos are of high quality and will teach you a lot more than shortstacking.
Totally worth the $$$.

Re: Short Stacking and 20bb CAP Strategy

I purchased Lorin's videos. This is the review i gave Lorin when i finished them.
I finally finished watching all of the videos. I've watched some of them twice and will continue to use them to help my game. Your strategies have made a huge difference in my winrate and opened my eyes to alot of mistakes i was making.
You are very good at conveying your thoughts through these videos, and i think you have covered just about everything for someone to make money shortstacking. I have watched quite a few hours of poker videos and to be honest, very few of them were on par with your videos. The layout is great and the hand examples, in my opinion, are the most crucial part to understanding certain plays. There are infinite examples in poker but the ones you have chosen are a good base to understanding postflop play. Your videos are well priced compared to all the other poker training sites out there as well.

I like your statement about short stacking not being about charts, while you have an amazing chart to offer,.

Re: Short Stacking and 20bb CAP Strategy

I paid for these videos and it completely turned my game around. I went from a marginal winner at NL50 and breakeven at NL100 to crushing NL200 and posting a small but strong winrate at NL400, in a span of about two months.

Beyond the quality, you also get a huge quantity of content for the price. Plus, this is a guy that really invests in his students, and really took an interest in my success.

To address this, imo a decent short stacking chart (which Lorin provides) can be obtained by anyone with a brain and a desire to spend a ton of hours with an EV calculator. The fact that these are provided is extremely helpful for anyone starting short stacking, but is likely to seem obvious to those with experience. The vast majority of content (and value) from purchasing this comes from Lorin's analysis and examples of post-flop play, which can't be guided effectively by a chart.

Re: Short Stacking and 20bb CAP Strategy

Hello,i probably will be interested but i have couple of questions.
This strategy is suitable for shallowstack tables, normal tables where we can buy in with 20-100bb and also for 20bb CAP tables?another thing,is it for 9max or shorthanded tables?
I downloaded your free video at your page, and i saw your examples were on 6max tables with every opponent with 100bb.
i mean, the ranges would be so different at FR 100bb deep and 20bb CAP tables.
I have no SStacking history so what exactly should i do when i buy your coaching - playing CAP or find some euro site where 20bb BI is allowed and grind there at 6max tables?
I am kind confused here so please help me.
Another thing ,after recent affair with FTP and PS how big should be impact to ability of making profit with this.
And btw. dont you think about some price reduction as consequence of affair ?
Oh and btw ,just a courious question, how would you as an american solve your difficult situation?would you give up SStacking or move from US??
(oh and sorry for my english,i am not so good as i would like to be :/ )

Re: Short Stack and 20bb Cap Strategy- Search and Seizure Blowout Sale!

Lorin:

Thanks for your PM's you have been very quick to reply and informative. I am still considering buying the video series. A couple more questions that I think would be better answered ITT for anyone else that is as uninformed / dense as I.

I play on Cake and Merge, with 30BB minimum buy-in. Can you address the challenges of starting with 30BB and how you would modify your strategies? (both pre and post obv.) If you made an appendix vid addressing this, I would purchase your vid package immediately.

Also, what games on Tilt, Stars, Ipoker, Party, etc, does this video series apply to after all the game structure modifications? I am based in Asia so I can play on any site - what games /site would you recommend to someone after studying your material? Are there anysites with a 20BB - 100BB buy-in structure anymore?

Does this video series directly address the CAP games (i.e. not just by association with playing a Short Stack, but analyzing the CAP game dynamics specifically)?

Thanks for your patience with me through all the questions.

re: Short Stack and 20BB CAP Strategy + New Note Caddy Package!

I'm in the US. My experience was in the area of mid-high stakes online SNG's and the new Fifty/50s on PS. I'm thinking of giving 2/5 live a try and with my SNG experience I though shortstacking would be a good "safer" way to start.
At my local casino the min/max buyins at 2/5 are $200-500. My question to OP is are your charts/videos applicable and if not could you be kind enough to offer some alternate recommendations. Thanks in advance for any reply.

No, this material is only suitable for the online game. The basic Ed Miller strategy found in Getting Started in Hold'Em would be a good place to start, provided that your games there are loose.

re: Short Stack and 20BB CAP Strategy + New Note Caddy Package!

Interested in this but just read an article about stars increasing min buy in in April. How much of a change to this strategy does this make or does this invalidate this strategy? thanks.

re: Short Stack and 20BB CAP Strategy + New Note Caddy Package!

Not sure what you are referring to, but PS now has Cap tables for 20 BB, as they have already increased the buy in at their other tables and phased out their 20-50 BB buy in tables.

Full Tilt runs a number of excellent 20-40bb shallow stack games.

PM me if you want more details.
