PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

Hi, I'm Sean and if you're a successful NL player looking to switch games, or if you find yourself struggling at low/mid stakes PLO, my coaching will provide you with the knowledge and mental tools you need to beat PLO in today's poker environment.

I'm a 30 year old poker pro from the US and have been playing professionally since finishing university in 2008, with some mini retirements along the way - mostly to travel. Since turning pro, I've spent most of that time living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I've played almost every type of poker under the sun - SNGs, fixed limit, NLHE, and now PLO has been my main game for the last 6 years. During those years, I went through my own struggles and ups and downs. And the downs were pretty far down there. But I learned from that, and the coaching I've gotten myself in the past was invaluable to my growth as a poker player and I work hard to have that same kind of impact for any future students.

2015 results:

Yes, the volume this year on tracked sites has been low. What you don't see included here is also a large chunk of volume and winnings at (mostly) 10/20 games on non-tracked, HUD-less sites. Playing those forced me to keep my table counts low for a good portion of the year.

So first off, who is my coaching not for?

If you're an autopiloting grinder that's more focused in getting volume and rakeback over quality hands, I'm not sure how useful my coaching would be for you.

But if you're a good NL player looking to boost your winrate and hourly by switching to PLO, my coaching will be a great fit for you. You'll be able to quickly get through much of the trial and error process and avoid common pitfalls that come with learning a new game (ones that you might not even realize you are making!). I can get you up to speed on the PLO strategies, tactics, and mental frames used by successful players to beat games that are getting tougher by the week.

What if you already play PLO? Will my coaching help you?

Yes. If you've been struggling and feel like you're just treading water at low/mid stakes PLO, I'll help nudge you in the right direction to break through that plateau and make you a solid winner at 2/4+. My coaching will help you identify and fix leaks in your game, making you less exploitable. At the same time, you'll now be able to find correct spots to profitably attack other players’ weaknesses.

Your winrate at your current stakes will improve and that will eventually lead to you moving up in stakes to where you want to be playing. A higher winrate, higher hourly, and shorter downswings makes for a happier poker player.

For students purchasing multiple classes I suggest starting off with a database analysis so I can get a good framework of your game and spot any glaring weaknesses. From there, we have several options - video review, going over tough hands in depth, or we can deeply analyze certain situations you feel you can improve on (ie. playing 40bb stacks or river bluffing spots). My preferred method of doing this is using Pro Poker Tools to break down and analyze the problem.

That said, I know that people learn in different ways and I don't want to offer you a bland cookie cutter solution. Classes can, and will be tailored to your own personal and professional needs.

Coaching for profits:

I am accepting a small number of students on a long term coaching for profits basis. If you're interested, please send me a PM with the following:

- current game(s) you play
- total time playing poker
- your poker history (few sentences)
- link to a screenshot of your results with EV bb/100 visible
- any references/vouches you have in the community

Hourly pricing:

1 hour session - $250
5 hour pack - $1100
10 class pack - $2000. One of these sessions will include a deep database analysis of you (normally takes 3 hours, counts as 1 class)
Deep database analysis - $700

Payment must be made up front, preferably on Paypal. I will also accept Pokerstars, BTC, or Skrill transfers.

The first call is a free, no obligation 15 minute introductory chat to find out what you are looking to get out of the coaching, what your problem areas are, and to see if my coaching would be a good fit.

If you're interested in getting PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular and improving your winrate, send me a PM or leave your contact info in the thread and we can chat.

I've known Sean for a long time and discussed hands and strategy with him alot over the years. He is a very good player with a sharp poker mind. I think he will make a very good coach. He's also very trustworthy and easy to get along with.

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

How far do you think you can take a complete PLO newbie in 10 sessions? Someone that has only played NL and couldn't even tell you the top 5 PLO hands.

Would they be able to beat 0.12/0.25? Maybe 0.25/0.50?

Considering learning PLO since I hear it's a lot softer the NLH but learning a completely new (more complex, I think) game is a bit daunting.

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

Thanks for the question Hipster. I made the same transition you are considering from NLHE to PLO so I am familiar with a lot of the common pitfalls and errors NL players make at PLO (playing great NL draws like they are great PLO draws and overvaluing vulnerable made hands being some examples). I see it still today with new NL guys switching over.

I don't want to say I can definitely make you a winner at X stake after 10 sessions but I'm confident I can get you up to speed on major concepts and get you thinking about and approaching PLO in a profitable way. Let me know if you have any other questions or would like to chat more.

Hi HarriS, it's 4.35 this year, which includes some action at nosebleeds. Hope that helps.

I've known Sean for around 18 months and I would and have recommended him as a coach to friends and other clients.

Excellent value for anyone looking to learn PLO from a current winner on PS

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

Thanks Elliot for the compliment!

For any potential students - I have just 2 of the 10 class packs left at the discounted price of $1500. When those are gone, the price goes up to $2000.

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

Update - the 10 class packs at the discounted price of $1,500 are all sold out.

10 classes are now $2,000 but will still include (for now) the deep database analysis which counts as just one session.

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

As someone who has experienced Sean's coaching first hand, I cannot recommend him highly enough.

He is great at both finding leaks and helping to plug them fast, and I've personally experienced a marked improvement in my game since receiving coaching from him.

He really has a knack for teaching complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand, and honestly, anyone purchasing a 10 class pack is getting an absolute steal.

Sean is also really easy to get along with, which is a big bonus!

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

Sean is a really nice guy with deep understanding of the game and excellent communication skills. My sessions with him have been extremely valuable. After the database analysis he was able to spot all the leaks in my game and propose specific ways to improve. He is always available to discuss hand histories to make sure I am applying his advice the right way. So I would totally recommend him as a coach!!

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

I have been working with Sean for a few weeks now. He has a really good understanding of PLO and does well to communicate it to his student. His initial database review is extremely valuable on its own. Once he discovered my leaks, each class has been designed to improve those areas/game. He has a strong understanding of HEM2 and PPT, which has helped me study more efficiently outside of his coaching. He is also available if you want advice on hands you have played recently. I highly recommend him if you want to take your PLO to a new level.

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

Jamie, Aris, and Kevin, thank you all for your reviews! I'm glad the coaching has been helping you improve your games and I'm working hard to make sure future classes are even more value-packed.

I've been asked about doing the DB analysis on its own so I wanted to mention it here before I fully edit my post.

I offer the deep database analysis as a separate item for anyone interested. The cost is $700.

Re: PLO coaching from a mid/high stakes regular

I bought the 10-class pack with Sean. I've already had 4 classes (including the deep DB analysis) and it's been great so far.
Although I've been playing PLO professionally for 5 years, last months weren't good for me, as I was struggling to breakeven at PLO100. After a disastrous January (about 90 buy ins down), I decided to get Sean's coach.
Since the first class, he helped me fix a lot of leaks in my game. He is really good at explaining his line of thought and it's always available to comment hands by email or Skype.
I moved down to PLO50 and reduced my number of tables (12 to 8-9) in February in order to field test the changes in my game and regain my confidence and results couldn't have been better. I played 56k hands and finished with 5.88bb/100 (6.51 EVbb/100).
I am really looking forward for the remaining of the classes, as I feel it will help improve my game more and more.

Thanks Ivan, it really has been great for me to see you improve so tremendously by being open to feedback and taking action to implement it. I'm looking forward to helping you take your game even further in future classes!

Do you have PLO reading material for your students? Have you collated information for yourself which you share to your students in your coaching program?

Thanks

I don't have any reading material or homework I give my students. From speaking with other coaches it seems like poker players don't enjoy that stuff anyway, so I focus on creating high quality presentations for some classes to complement hand and video review sessions.

If you have any other questions let me know.

Finished 2nd in the Stars Wednesday $320 PLO MTT last week and recorded most of the session live. I should have that video released in some form or fashion in the next couple weeks for those interested in PLO MTTs.
