Maximize Your Time and Perform at Your Peak: Productivity Coaching from Former HSNL Crusher

Hi, I’m Chris Sparks. As a productivity coach, I help entrepreneurs maximize output by implementing peak performance strategies. I improve their personal effectiveness through building strong habits, creating systems, and minimizing procrastination.

Despite retiring from online poker, I have been working on productivity and related challenges with several part and full-time players through client referrals. Their success has encouraged me to offer my service to a select number of players here.

About Me

I played online cash games full-time for four years after messing around in MTTs during college (GoMukYaSelf on Stars and FTP). Moved up from 1 / 2 FR in 2008 to 10 / 20 - 50 / 100 NL in 2010. Walked away from online poker after Black Friday with $1.5MM in lifetime profit (ranked top 20 Stars cash game winners of all time).

I did a podcast with ChicagoJoey two years ago that goes a bit more depth into my poker story and travels. [link]

I was an active and respected poster on 2+2 from 2007 to 2011 (particularly in MHFR in its heyday). I was also one of the most prolific cash game coaches, working with over one hundred 2+2ers from a thread just like this one (almost every mid-stakes full ring player) and entering into long-term staking arrangements with two dozen more.

In essence, I understand well what it takes to be one of the best players in the world and how to overcome the unique lifestyle challenges which come with being a professional player.

Why Productivity?

When making a big hourly playing poker, it is easy to get complacent and let other areas of your life slip, which affects your bottom line and life satisfaction in subtle and non-obvious ways. Poor habits lead to suboptimal physical and mental states while playing. Poor schedule planning and prioritization lead to reduced table hours and suboptimal study.

Habits are the invisible architecture of our existence and small actions, both positive and negative, compound over time. We repeat about 40% of our behavior daily, so by changing our habits, we change our lives.

Why Productivity Coaching?

In my pursuit of excellence, I have read hundreds of books and articles, studied top performers across a number of fields, and collaborated with several thought leaders shaping the current conversations around productivity and peak performance -- distilling, testing, and implementing the best each person had to offer.

There is no lack of personal development resources online. The challenge for any dabbler is a poor signal/noise ratio -- free articles, particularly in productivity, are largely superficial and redundant because they target those whose constraint is monetary rather than time or attention. Much of the content takes the form of “this worked for me” but without proper context the techniques fail to generalize.

The best coaches and consultants charge high prices because they can summarize years of experience in a few words, revealing blind spots that once perceived, make all necessary actions obvious. Without a forcing function towards implementation, all the knowledge in the world won’t lead to lasting changes in your life. I can greatly cut down any player’s learning curve on turning poker into a sustainable business and becoming a personal productivity machine.

For more background on what I do, you can check out my coaching website. [link]

How will it benefit you as a poker player to be more productive? Thought you would never ask.

Here is a sampling of ways I have helped other players so far:

  1. Creating automatic triggers and routines to chain together positive habits (exercise, reading, writing, meditation, etc)
  2. Sticking to a consistent morning routine to get out of bed immediately and start the day with positive momentum
  3. Improving bedtime habits and bedroom environment for better sleep quality
  4. Optimizing daily schedule (mealtimes, breaks, etc) to maximize session focus and energy levels
  5. Writing your action script to be able to ramp up into a flow state on demand
  6. Designing a plan to maximize time invested on video study and hand reviews
  7. Building a reliable note-taking system to backup your mental hard-drive
  8. Implementing self-tracking as an instrument for self-discovery and change
  9. Outsourcing and delegating non-critical recurring tasks to create time
  10. Optimizing poker environment and eliminating online/offline distractions
  11. Making better use of leisure and recovery time (reducing or replacing TV, social media, video games, neurotic surfing, etc)
  12. Setting firebreaks to limit the damage/duration of off days and down periods
  13. Structuring experiments to test out alternative careers post-poker
  14. Carving out time to make consistent progress and impact on a side project or cause
  15. Maintaining poker schedule and family life without letting either slip
Successes To Date

The common refrain I hear from clients after our first session is “I was at the least productive point in my life and now I am at my highest.” My focus is on long-term adherence, teaching meta-skills and giving tools which you can utilize every day for the rest of your life. Every conversation is customized based on your long-term goals and motivational style.

Every player I have worked with has come to me directly or by client referral -- to date, my work has been my marketing. Given the nature of this coaching, I want to respect client privacy so will not be posting names or screen names here in this thread. I have sent this thread to a few players known here on 2+2, in case any of them are willing to share their experiences. For serious inquiries, I am happy to put you in contact with them directly.

Coaching Structure

We will have 2 Skype sessions of at least one hour each month (scheduled online at your convenience). For each session, I provide recordings and detailed notes of our discussion containing relevant links and further reading for any new concepts introduced. I check in with you regularly to hold you accountable and you have unlimited access to me via email.

Coaching is my full-time focus and I restrict myself to ten active clients at any given time. This allows me to be unusually hands-on and responsive. I am always accessible between sessions and my resources and contacts are open to you.

Pricing

$775/month, 3-month minimum, payable upfront via Paypal or Venmo.
I aim to deliver a 5X return, money back guaranteed.

For clients with an upcoming sprint (product launch, prop bet, etc) looking for immediate ramp-up I do offer customizable 2-3 day intensives (in person at your home/office) starting at $4k + travel on a limited case by case basis. PM me for more details.

Re: Maximize Your Time and Perform at Your Peak: Productivity Coaching from Former HSNL Crushe

I'm a high stakes live cash player, currently splitting my time these days between poker and seeking out/evaluating investment opportunities, mostly in real estate. But in 2016, I was doing very little of either...

Chris was recommended to me by a former poker beast who has now taken over the real estate world via short-term rentals. In recent months, I was going through one of the longest and deepest off periods of my life. Despite accomplishing so many things I believed would bring happiness to my life over the past 12 years, I often felt deeply unsatisfied, spending much of my days in a big house watching Netflix and eating pizza. On the other hand, this friend of mine had not only successfully moved on to a new career, but it was clear he was quite content in the major phases of his life, giving Chris plenty of credit for his recent successes.

As I slowly crawled out from under the rock, I decided I'd reach out to Chris to see if we'd be a good match. He read and astutely responded to my 10 page questionnaire (being concise is not an area of expertise as you can already tell ), and did the same thing again in a complimentary initial session.

Although generally pretty skeptical of coaching, I figured I had little to lose and everything to gain. These first couple weeks have been everything I could've asked for and then some. Chris is all of brilliant, well-read, and sympathetic-I can tell he really gives a s*** about helping me live a more meaningful life. My struggles are deep and complex, and Chris has already helped me to implement a series of strategies on a day-to-day level that have allowed me to have an incredibly productive yet peaceful couple weeks. Because he too has gone through some of the same struggles as I (to a much lesser extent I suspect), his advice carries additional significance.

For those of you looking to maximize your efficiency and/or poker/entrepreneurial income Chris is your guy. For those of you where financial scarcity isn't an issue and are mostly looking to find additional purpose in your life, Chris is your guy. For those looking for the nitty-gritty on how to achieve your short and long term goals catered to your specific areas of potential improvement, Chris is your guy. Needing all the above and plenty more, I can't wait to crush all my goals over the next few months under Chris's guidance. Full review of our first 3 months working together coming in April.

Re: Maximize Your Time and Perform at Your Peak: Productivity Coaching from Former HSNL Crushe

I just finished up 3 months of productivity coaching and it was easily one of the best investments of my life. I play live poker, gamble on sports, have a couple real estate investments and have a LOT of responsibility as a wife to a working mother and as a father of 2 children.

I took online poker coaching from Chris back before black Friday and that was such a positive experience for me. When I saw that he was productivity coach back in October of last year i knew I had to reach out to him to help maximize my business output while still having the time and energy to spend time with my family.

I highly recommend Chris and his productivity coaching to anyone who reads this thread even remotely thinks they might benefit from it. I am 99% certain that you will benefit from it and take away knowledge and ideas that will potentially help you for the rest of your life.

Unfortunately I'm a microstake player and you are too expensive for me, nonetheless I want to thank you for your advice on your site, namely, the blogs you are reading and the reading list.
Best of luck with your business

Thanks! Would like to be able to help more players but the high touch structure sets a limit on how many I can work with at a time.

I'm currently writing a book summarizing my best practices for productivity (now in editing process, book launch in April) and considering doing a group class later this year.

I love giving personalized reading recommendations if you send me a PM with what you want to learn.

P.S. Rick and Morty is my favorite show - we need Season 3 already!

Re: Maximize Your Time and Perform at Your Peak: Productivity Coaching from Former HSNL Crushe

Having Chris as a productivity coach has been great, he has been keeping me in check, kind of a person who focuses on things I might be doing right or wrong and giving me a second opinion on things that I have thought about in the past or future or currently. It's kind of like a role of a big brother because he has experienced everything I have experienced and he can share what he learned along his journey to pass onto mine which has helped me tremendously.

I've been working with Chris for the last month or so, just to go ahead and see what this was all about to be honest I had an idea of what to expect but I just never thought it would make any significant impact into my life. Chris kind of shook my life around actually to be honest, all these little things he says is kind of picking apart your 'leaks' in life and finding better alternatives to live your life. For instance, I never had a separate work and sleep space, although I've always wanted to do it, but I never made the step in order to do it! Chris forced me to do it and I would have to say it was one of the best decisions I've made this year.

I would recommend working with Chris if you feel you aren't feeling super productive or you think you are missing something in your life I think he'll try to find a way to fix a flaw! It's a cheap investment and worth while try just to see what changes in your life!

- Using game theory to dictate the playstyles of your opponents
- Doing pre-mortems to predict opponent's future behavior
- The dark art of compartmentalization -- expecting to win every hand

I have availability for two new poker clients in May. Strong preference for online cash game players with ambitious development goals outside of poker and/or entrepreneurial interests. Fill out an application if interested or PM if any questions.

Re: Maximize Your Time and Perform at Your Peak: Productivity Coaching from Former HSNL Crushe

It's been almost a decade since I last talked to Chris but I feel obligated to give an upvote.

I worked with Chris in 2010 and had a career changing experience. Before meeting him, I was a successful MSNL regular who struggled to move up to HSNL. Chris cemented me as a HSNL reg and connected professionalism to my work that is still backbone of my game today. It took me years to realize what I gained from Chris and I'd like to give my late thank you here. Hope all is well
