As I often do, tonight I've been listening through and taking notes on some of my old Skype sessions with Bill.

No matter how many other poker resources I study, it really is amazing how often it hits me (when listening to our sessions) of what a one-of-a-kind poker mind Bill was. Every single thing he said just seemed to be so chock full of wisdom and practical, "real-world" strategy.

It is so bittersweet to listen to my audio files. On the one hand, it's nice to hear his voice, still benefit from studying our sessions, and think back fondly of the memories of him as my coach. On the other hand, it's profoundly sad to hear our conversations when I know there will never be any more.

Thinking of you often, coach, and missing you so much today.

I was in a game last night where I was getting my a$$ kicked early. I couldn't run from it - I get the idea of - take some time, re-set, come back fresh.

Yet when you have certain goals in mind, what else can you do but press on? Can't run away every time you get "coolered", otherwise we'd never play.

Basically what I'd like to convey is that when I was in that spot, of losing with made hands, time after time, they always get there, etc... A deep breath and thinking of the lessons Bill taught me turned a losing session into a winner.

Can't thank Bill enough for what he gave to me.

Damn....I was coming here to say I just watched some of his videos and he seemed like a real gentle soul, I wanted to contact him. Just too sad...

I have noticed that Bill had taught me so much about life and the choices we make. His coaching/friendship has been missed so much! I find myself constantly saying his 1 liners in my head (especially SBRTA!) hahaha.

I plan on returning to the tables this weekend. I always looked forward to weekends of poker! I would have my lesson with Bill, play all weekend and review Sunday evening. It was an awesome little routine. I enjoy listening to our old lessons which were always full of laughs : )

I'm wondering if anyone in the ANL community has found a coach that has a similar passion for coaching? Bill was such an amazing person
, which made the process that much more enjoyable. He was a real world dude that had brilliant insight on life and poker.

Any suggestions will be looked at very seriously. I know that Bill's students have had the ability to experience world class coaching from one of the greatest minds I have ever encountered. If anyone has found a coach even close to his level, I would be really greatful.

I was just getting ready to book some sessions with him and read he passed away recently. Sorry to hear it. Seemed like a genuinely nice man. RIP.

Long time since I've been in this thread, and was on a poker hiatus. Have any of Bill's former students continued on his legacy? I liked his videos so much and was in the process of inquiring about becoming a student when he passed away. If anyone has some recommendations for coaches in his style, or if any of his former students are coaching please send me an IM, just let me know it's about this thread.

It's amazing how upon his death everyone loves the guy. Before that 70% of 2P2 was too busy flaming him to bits.

this is not true. A few 2p2 regs, who were not very good players themselves, liked to troll him.

It is true. And for all we know the harassment might have had something to do with his suicide. This reminds of a kid being bullied in school and committing suicide. After his or her death it turns out that the whole school was friends with him and they all hold a big anti-bullying vigil for him.

@ OlafF - truly sorry if you encountered a bad experience with a bully. It sucks, I've dealt with it. Not fun. Even if you just witnessed it from a distance - not fun.

What you mentioned is correct, maybe the stuff online had an influence on Bill's decision. Gosh I hope not, yet let me say this please...

The past students commenting here, really cared about Bill. If anyone out there is at the end of their "rope", seriously contemplating a quick exit, please remember that there are people around who really do care for you.

I was very sad to hear about Bill. I was never student of his, but I wanted to be. I went to his website to buy his essays but they are apparently no longer available. I hope this doesn't sound to crass given the circumstances, but does anyone know where I could get them? Thanks for any help.

Been a while since I have been on here. Got the message about the hack. I do appreciate the kind words. I want the community to know that he really loved the students and community here. The sessions were not dreaded but instead he looked forward to them. Rest assured nothing here contributed to the tragedy. I would have to say that he spoke with a lot of energy telling me about his rising teaching career and how much he liked it. There were just too many other factors that overcame him.

Thanks Robert for stopping by! Yes, I know he really did love coaching and he loved watching his students improve their game. He wasn't doing it for the money or the +EV factor (positive expected value term in poker), he truly enjoy helping people improve their game.

I know how hard it is to lose a sibling. I lost my sister shortly after his death as well. He will always be remembered as the inspiring teacher and Master of the game that was able to take a losing player like myself, and with his unique ingenious learning syllabus, turn me into a steady winner. He was truly the best.
