7bb/100 winner on Stars NLHE. Regular coaching. Coaching for profits(New!)

About me

My name is Sorin and I've played on PokerStars in the past 5 years under the username "thecurv".
I was also a supernova elite in 2010 and 2011.
What I would look for in a coach would be (at least) : proof that he is a good player, credibility and ability to teach others what he knows.

And split by months:

Huge winrate The above results are for the last 12 months and the winrate of around 7bb/100 playing 200nl, 400nl and 600nl is one of the highest that you will see in a coach for a relevant sample size. I don't like to use the word "crushing" as it seems so overused these days, you can be the judge if that is "crushing" the games or not.

Credibility
The results above are achieved considering the following:

* they are all played under the same username on Stars, considered by many to have the toughest competition post Black Friday

* they are easily verifiable since it's all on Stars

* they are recent and I'm still an active player, I'm not a coach that has retired because the games have passed him by

* the sample size is large to remove any deviation in EV as a result of running hot or cold

* no losing months

Style of teaching

I don't want to force my style of play on a student and make him a clone of myself.
The coaching sessions will be adapted to your style of play unless you want to change it.

For the last 7-8 months I've been able to play a mostly open limp strategy that is very uncommon for a reg in today's game, so I am adaptable to almost any style of student play.
I am not gonna advise you to play like that as a default however.

I also have an advanced knowledge of up to date software so if you are the type of person that likes to use HM2, notecaddy, notecaddy packs already released or about to be released, cardrunnersEV/stoxEV,etc I will certainly be able to improve your skills in using them.
I used to be a top programmer before switching to poker so understanding and properly using assisting software comes very natural to me.

Rates
I will be coaching up to 200nl for fullring and 6max (regular or zoom/rush type tables)
  • $75 for 1 hour session

If you are playing 25nl and lower I will be offering(for now at least) a discount:
  • $50 for 1 hour session

Please contact me via PM, reply in this thread of email at coachnlholdem@yahoo.ro

I wanted the offer to be for the first 2 students but I actually kept it for the 4 people that have contacted me so far.
And because I posted my coaching listing in a holiday period around Easter I will extend the offer for a few more days.

re: 7bb/100 winner on Stars NLHE. Regular coaching. Coaching for profits(New!)

A few people have asked me in PM if I coach zoom too so I'll give the answer here in the thread.

I have only played an insignificant number of hands at zoom so my experience there is limited.
It is the same game, it's still no limit holdem, I can still find your leaks and help you improve your game with hm2 and NC.
I would still agree to coach there and you would improve your game but I do want to say that maybe a coach specialized in zoom might be better suited for you there as he might know from experience some moves that are zoom-specific.

For example: let's say you are in the button with a marginal hand that given the two players in the blinds would be a barely +EV spot to steal with on a normal table.
I would advise you to steal with it but in a zoom environment it might be a better EV move to snap fold it and move to another table quickly instead of waiting for a few seconds until it's your turn to steal(you might not even get to steal as someone might open before you and you just wasted time for nothing).
And while your bb/100 would increase by waiting and stealing with it, your hourly rate might actually go up if you fold it because the volume of hands would increase.
And since I don't have as much experience there I haven't researched enough to tell you which move is optimal.

So take the above details into consideration before deciding if you want me to coach you for zoom games.

Update:

I'm putting the promo offer on hold for now as I have enough players taking it and I don't have room for more yet. Originally intended to be for 2 but I took a lot more in the end.
You can still contact me via PM or email and we'll talk about it.
I will post an update with the hourly rates after a few days, after I finish coaching the current players.

Update #2
Some have asked if I am still playing/still "crushing" or retired?
As you can see in the 3rd picture, in the last 6 months my winrate is actually higher than my total average, so obviously yes, still playing, still "crushing".
And as a TV promo by Doyle says "we don't stop playing when we get old, we get old when we stop playing", I agree with that and I wouldn't stop playing even for that reason alone.

Is there a reason you haven't included results from March onwards?

I try not to check results too often so that my game doesn't get influenced by short term upswings or downswings.
I did check recently and for March it was about 3 ev bb / 100 and for this month so far around 5 ev bb/100.

And since I gave out my Stars sn(which I haven't seen many do) and my results for 13 straight months I didn't think it's relevant to post results after each week, maybe an update each 4 months or something like that.

Also, I picked February 2013 as the start date because that's when I worked hard on improving my game and made the move to 200-600nl.

P.S: I agree that you should be suspicious on results posted by a coach and I always am as well and most of the time it looks shady to me.
That's why I made sure to clearly post the sn, filters, date and even EV for people to verify the results themselves using whatever methods they want.
And notice that I ran a bit over EV for that sample size and could've conveniently left it out.

I took 3 hours of coaching with Sorin and I can say it has been the best value for money coaching I've had. He seems truly interested in his students' progress and he is a winner at today's games so he knows what he is talking about.
He has helped me identify some of my leaks and we reviewed hand histories together which made me realize of mistakes in my thought process. I would definitely recommend him and I would like to take more hours with him in the future.

I had classes with 3 other coaches, but Sorin is showing me that I still don't know much of this game. He shows ways to do instant profit on spots you were missing (that's probably why his winrate is so big). Definitelly the best poker teacher I have ever seen.

sessions done : 2/many

Thank you for the nice reviews, especially coming from 2 players that had previous experience with other coaches.
While my ability as a player can be proven with graphs, there is always the question: "he is a good player...but is he able to teach what he knows?"

Usually 5-8 tables.
The reason for not playing more than that is that my myopia increased(to -3) during the time that I was playing 20 tables for many hours.
And it's hasn't increased at all in the last 2 years since I stopped playing 20 tables, so I don't want to risk it.

It is also a reason for starting to coach: I can't play for too many hours a day without my eyes hurting me so I have many free hours that I can use for something else that doesn't require so much eye focus, like coaching.

You are playing less than 5 hands/min which is weird. Even if you play only 5 tables, seems to me you have to play at least 6 hands/min.
I play always 8 tables. This month I played 8k minutes and have 93,5k hands. On average I play more than 11 hands/min.
In last February, you spent 5059 minutes to play 21,6k hands. As the same time spent, I would play about 58k hands.

Do you see any reason to play less than 5 hands/min or I play to fast?

Thanks in advance.

Takes time to get session started, takes time to finish. Hes not always getting 8 tables, tables break often and takes time to find new table, etc. If u could/would play same 8 tables for 3 hours straight wit no breaks u obv would get moar hands per hour.

That being said lol_8tabling

TimStone pretty much answered what I was about to say myself.
For those who don't know him, TimStone is a good player at my stakes and a passionate blogger, not a student of mine:-) .

8 is more of an upper cap, I try not to go above that number for the reasons mentioned above.
I don't do long sessions for the same reason, I rarely play more than 2 hours straight so my average number of tables goes down because of the session start.
Also, I mix in FR tables and get less hands/minute there.

The myopia has to stop at whatever number before laser becomes an option. As long as it's unstable and increasing regularly it's not an option according to the doc.
