wow...Pool is a wonderful game....

Lets say i line up 10 shots all the same and on average i pot 7 of these 10 shots. What is the most likely reason in my cueing for the inconstancy? Unwanted side? Not contacting the object where intended? Is there any way I can test what it is?

Basically I think the weakest part of my game is constancy, any tips what to watch for and how to improve it other than the obv, play lots?

Thanks

It can be any of the reason you listed. If you want to check if you put unwanted side, try using a stripe ball instead of the cueball, its easy to see the spin.

Are you missing on the same side of the pocket, or the missed shots are evenly distributed to the left/right side of the pocket?

Has anybody else seen this failed "pool" show pilot? I was reminded of it today and thought it would be appreciated here.

I used to laugh to myself for a few weeks after watching it whenever I'd see someone wearing a backwards baseball cap.

What is best to play to just get better overall when shooting by yourself, 9ball or 8ball? Just setting up shots you're having problems with and practicing like that?

I consider myself a fair bit below average but might be being too hard on myself? Probably not. I'm going to be playing mainly on pretty meh bar room tables if that makes a difference.

I'm really just looking to get better to become more competetive with the better players at the bar I play with (some of which I consider pretty sick).

You should start with 8ball imo. Most shots/positions are relatively easy, and does not require a powerful stroke. It's more of a strategic game than 9ball.

I'm having trouble bridging
Spoiler:
without crushing the table

Anyone know where I can get a slate that'll support a few tons?

I recently had my cue stolen from the boot of my car, so i'm in the market for a new one.

I play World 8-ball and snooker.

Stolen cue was a 19.5oz custom 3 piece maple shaft with pure ebony butt and extender and a 9.5mm tip.

The guy who made my cue has retired, and there doesn't appear to be any local cue makers in my area any more.

I'm not particularly price sensitive, but i'm not looking to spend a ridiculous amount for a cue either.

Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Huge brag, our captain is away on holiday so i'm stepping in until he's back.

We were down 4-2 after all 6 singles games were played and came back to win all the doubles matches to win the match 5-4. First time we've won all our doubles games as well.

Anyone else play in any leagues? Have some league/competitive stories?

I'm not sure of the weight, my first Barracuda was a 2 piece which I think was 18.5 oz

I'm very happy with my old 2 piece and the 3 piece (which my wife bought me for my birthday a few years ago because she didn't know what else to get me).

3 piece is stored at the club so I can't check the weght.

Beat : at the graduation ball (was very very pissed, on a really crap bar table which wasn't anywhere near level.) I missed a really simple black in a money game for a fiver....

Brag : I finally managed to graduate.

Variance : I'm back in Essex with no job etc.

Beat: Half an inch away from my first 8 ball and 9 ball break and run.

8 ball
I have 3 stripes left on the table. 2 are hanging over pockets, the 8 ball is in the centre of the table, I can sink it from anywhere. Problem, cueball about 4 inches from the rail. Stripe ball on the long end of the table, one inch off the rail. Half a solid ball in the way. I could try and jump half a ball or I could try and curve around half a ball. God knows what I was thinking but I watched a youtube video about masse, not trick shot masse, but masse for situations like this. I decided to go for the curve. Totally did not clear the half inch, scratched but won the rack anyways.

9 ball.

Sank a ball on the break. Ran it out to 6, 8, and 9 left. 6 ball not exactly frozen on the rail but pretty damn close. I'd actually prefer it to be completely frozen since that'd be easier to deal with. 8 and 9 in the open, I have a nice angle on the 6 ball. Should be an automatic shot for anyone half decent. Should be an automatic shot for me. I miscalculated somehow and the 6 ball bounced around the jaws, bounced out and was frozen against the rail right next to the pocket. Luckily, my friend couldn't pot that and I won that rack too but it irked me to think I was so close to my first break and run and blew it.

Beat: Over two nights last week I missed four (4!!!!!) opportunities to get my first 7 ball. Two were from their break and two were a break and run, the one in particular will haunt me, I normally make that black 90% of the time no problem. One was a tough long shot with a risk of going in off which played on my mind as I was lining up, and one was a ridiculous double up the table as I messed up the prev shot position totally. To be fair I wasnt far away either. The look on my mates face the one time was great tho, he'd never been 7 balled on and he was s***ting himself lol.

Brag: I cleared my first seven balls in one visit on four occasions. I walk up to a table now thinking I can drop them all if the breaks good. My potting has always been ok, just never gave a thought to position really, now Im taking my time, thinking things through and I can really feel myself getting better all the time. Really wanna clear up the break tho!

For the UK guys, Rileys are doing a nice offer at the min, £16 gets you the table all night, and for the next 6 nights too after 5pm.

Brag: Saw snooker player who's ranked no.54 in the world in action as his team played ours at pool in the league cup, we lost 8-1.

Ran out last 4 balls bank pool style in 9 ball shooting with myself.

Broke and the 8 fell. Got down the the 5,6,7,and 9. All were either frozen or near frozen on the rails. I banked all 4.

omfg raging so bad now

away league game, i pot a red and leave myself a just off straight pink to the middle. cueball is close to the rail, i mi**** slightly and hit the pink slightly on the wrong side, following into the middle pocket. there is no other colour anywhere near the pink, or even in my line of sight. ref calls foul 7 as i failed to nominate the ball on. really?
10-12-2011 , 02:34 PM
Should have nominated the ref and thrown the cue ball at him imo.
10-12-2011 , 04:22 PM
Sounds very harsh but I find just saying the colour even if it is 99.9% obvious also gives you a vital extra second to be sure and confirm in your own mind the shot.

This sounds like the match was rigged. Don't play there again or bring your own ref.

^^ I imagine the ref was a member of the opposition.

Never played competitive snooker. You really have to go around nominating balls all the time?
