So were playing 80 a rack pure slop 9 ball game at a bar (the type you put quarters in to get a rack)....so my buddy does a 3 4 9 combo sinks it and the cue ball...he claims he still wins? I claim its a match loss...bartender / owner says its a match loss...rando guy says its a spotted up 9 and i get ball in hand on new object ball?

As far as I know, the 9 is spotted and you get ball in hand. Playing for 80 a game, you should really clarify the rules before you start. By not, it only creates problems and starts fights.

Spotted 9 in my area. This isn't 8-ball.

9 ball spotted, ball in hand

Spot the 9, definitely not a win for your friend

There are two different rulings (Tournament dependent):
1. He loses (more common)
2. 9 Respot, Ball in hand for you.

I vote spot the 9. Just like if you make the 9 on the snap and scratch, its not a loss, you just spot it up.

Most bar tables don't let you pull balls that drop, so in that case I would vote that your buddy loses.

True, but you have six extras to sub for the 9

Spot the nine (or a 10-15 ball), ball in hand. Or agree beforehand that the table wins, your buddy loses and you move on to the next rack. Playing 80 a game I can see why you wouldn't want to sub the 9, and also why you wouldn't want to play "bar table beats you both and the game is over" rules - maybe play on a proper table, or just play for fun in the bar and enjoy life?

Spot the 9, you get ball in hand.

Spot the 9, ball in hand. Every time.

can be a problem though on a coin table when you have no balls left to spot.

If you scratch on the 9ball six times to where you run out of balls to spot. You shouldnt be playing pool for money.

Of course. Should still have a ruling though. After all this thread is about that.

For $80 a rack, if you're not comfy using a 10 ball or such, or have run out of extra balls.. The guilty party need to pony up 4 quarters and retrieve the 9... Consider it a tax on scratching!

Lol, I like it... Although I would probably save the $1 and use the 10ball

You both agree. He said once you have run out of extra balls.

I have seen about 5 things happen in this case, its different everywhere you go. Fairest is spot the 9 with ball in hand.

lol yea.

since the bartender/bar owner say loss, i'm fine w/ house rules.
also fine w/ spotting/bih. but definitely not ok with a win there. LOL.
