Re: Veep - HBO, Julia Louis-Dreyfus

I think there's a much larger campaign backstory behind why they hate him, but we haven't seen much of it, yet. As they expanded his role in episode 5, it's really easy to see why they can't stand him, but he hadn't really done anything overt, through the first 4 to explain why they were constantly making jokes at his expense. I agree that the more we hear him talk, the more crap he deserves. Less is more in regards to his character, in my opinion.

Also the Jerry/Jonah thing doesn't work because as liaison to the VP's office Jonah has some authority over the VP's office.

Get the impression that Julia louis-dreyfus would do better in a sitcom with Michael Richards, Jason Alexander, Jerry Seinfeld and possibly written by Larry David.
Dunno why but i think that show would be a bigger hit.

True, but it's splitting hairs really, because we're comparing characters of shows that aren't really very similar, outside of having truly outstanding ensembles, with the arguably the "weakest" link being the "star". The only other links that make them similar are that they are dealing with government, and a female protagonist who is trying to get ahead, while being thwarted by where she is, at the moment.

Anyone with a poker screenname should just be instabanned if they wander outside of NVG

Kevin Heffernan (Farva) was great in this episode.

We don't need a backstory to understand why they hate Jonah. They hate Jonah because he's an ******* who holds working the president over their heads at all times.

I realize this is just a failed attempt at a joke- but I actually enjoy her performance in this more than as Elaine. I like her with a bit more consistent edge and authority.

You're right that we don't need it, but I think they were being really mean to him even before he started playing the constant White House card (even though he may have done that in his first scene, I can't remember for sure). I think it seems obvious the Veep and Prez were against each other in the primary, and there must have been a lot of bad blood between them. That carries on to their staffs, I think, as there would still be gloating and bitterness, especially if the Veep thinks the Prez isn't doing a good job.

He came off as a major creep in one of the first few episodes, not sure how much more backstory you can reasonably expect.

All jokes relating to dick cake were my favorites in this episode.

Re: Veep - HBO, Julia Louis-Dreyfus

I had two potentially conflicting thoughts on this.

- I just never care enough about the plot and wait for the jokes

- I was really annoyed that they just did away with the pregnancy like that.

Show has a hard time spot for me, because I'm still in a post GoT/Mad Men headspace and never give it proper attention.

Dick cake was good, the rest was just sort of blah. I think one of the problems this show has is that despite being an ensemble comedy, all of the characters besides Jonah and Gary are just variations on self absorbed Washington political types, it gets sort of monotonous when they all are together.
