Based on posts he made here a couple years ago and Albert's cast interview, if they're not the same person they certainly have a lot in common.

CBS Bio: Name (Age): Albert Destrade (26)
Tribe designation: Upolu*
Current residence: Plantation, Fla
Occupation: Baseball/Dating Coach****
Personal claim to fame: I hit my first college home run off of a guy that was a 1st round *d*raft pick.*
Inspiration in life: I'm going to go with the lead character from the movie "Bull Durham." Kevin Costner's "Crash Davis" exemplifies a lot of attributes I can relate to. He is a hero of mine because of how he goes about his business as a ballplayer. He's a life-grinder. Plus, he's colorful and full of wisdom.
Hobbies: Poker, writing and exercise.
Pet peeves: I have little to no patience for ignorance. People who are uninformed about something, yet insist to be opinionated about it, really irritate me. I also get bothered by mentally weak people.
3 words to describe you: Versatile, dynamic and resourceful.
SURVIVOR contestant you are most like: I really like how J.T. managed to forge himself as a leader on Season 18 without being overbearing or bossy whatsoever. He commanded respect and led by example.
Reason for being on SURVIVOR: I have a legitimate chance to win one million dollars. Also, I can prove to myself that I can beat all in a game of strength, strategy and will.
Why you think you’ll “survive” SURVIVOR: I was a Division I college athlete as recently as four years ago. I am a tough guy to beat in challenges. I’m a team player and I don’t have a problem contributing to any construction, hunting, fishing or gathering.
Why you think you will be the sole SURVIVOR: I know that I possess a unique combination of attributes that would make me a favorite in this game. I’m athletic and very socially adept. I’m calculated and self-aware. Ultimately, if you combine my awareness, physical strength and social calibration, I bring a lot to the table.

Anyhow, hopefully you guys will tune in. Show premieres Sept. 14th 8pm and is on Wednesdays at 8pm throught the fall on CBS.

Take care!
Hi Albert, welcome to our thread.

To get things started it would be great if you could answer some questions.

Since I don't want you to get any trouble I keep the questions general and I'm not asking about details and specifics about the upcoming season.
Maybe when the season is over you can give us a couple more details and insider information about what actually happened and what's not shown on TV.

How did you prepare for the show?
Did you train you fire building skills?
Did you sharpen your puzzle making skills?
Did you maybe even try some of the most common challenges or thought about the best strategies for them?
Did you do some survival-related research?
Did you prepare a guideline for yourself for a possible final tribal council speech?
Did you re-watch any seasons specifically to prepare for this show?
Did you watch every season or only specific ones?
What was your favorite season? (I thought about asking you, who your favorite survivor is but I think it might spoil something about the way you approach the game and I wanna be surprised.)

How specific are the rules about this game? What I mean by that, do you get something like a rule book which specifically states what's allowed and what's prohibited, i.e. are you allowed to go through other players personal property, are you allowed to even steal or destroy other players property, what are the exact rules about the immunity idols, what's happening to it in case of a merge when you don't get to go back to the old camp to retrieve it?

I really don't see how CI can be anyone's favorite season. There is little to no post-merge strategy discussion as the game was decided after Nate was booted at F9. On top of that there are so few funny or interesting people on the season.

wat

Yul
Ozzy
Parvati
Cao Boi
Penner
****ing Billy Garcia

Candace, Ozzy, Parv, Penner were invited back for all-star seasons.

I'll give you that Yul's idol made the season a bit stale strategy-wise but this was my first season of Survivor and I thought it was really fun to watch.

I think the hate for CI comes from the fact that many people didn't really like Yul and his minions. Combined with the too powerful II it has some major flaws.
But if you only look at the cast, I think it was one of the better ones they had over the years.

I'll give you Billy and Cao Boi.

Parvati was a complete nothing on CI and people who say that she made CI better are only revising history based on FvF and HvV.

Yul was completely boring on CI. He is a fantastic game player, but the overpowered HII made it too tough to tell if he's that good or not, and he didn't really add any entertainment value.

Candace is also pretty damn boring. What did she do other than go to Exile Island a bunch, cry a lot, and make out with Adam?
Survivor: South Pacific Quote
08-29-2011 , 03:26 PM
I agree that Candace was boring. But I still thought Yul was amusing simply for his dominance/solid play. He had quite a few good observations/lines in there too.

Yul was dominant at getting 2nd in challenges and being handed a way too powerful idol.

Slanche,

I am not at liberty to answer all of your questions but I will do my best with the ones that I can....

How did you prepare for the show?
Strategically
Well I went back and watched a few select seasons. I tried to watch ones from which I thought I could gleam the most strategic insight possible. I started with S18 Tocantins. That season the Jalapao tribe went into the merge down in numbers but still managed to have two members reach the F2. I went on to study S19-22 (Samoa, HvV, Nicaragua and RI) chronologically. As well as China, Thailand and Gabon.

Physically
I was in the gym 5x a week and tried to combine a bit of weight gaining with strength buliding and endurance training.

Yes I did actually. I practiced a couple of the challenges that I had the resources to recreate. Funny thing is that one of the challenges that I literally practiced at home, ended up being on my season.

Quote:
Did you sharpen your puzzle making skills?
I did. I found a couple websites that offer memory games and different puzzle games. I even had my roommate (who knew I was involved in the process because he was my Amazing Race partner) setup word puzzle challenges in the apartment. We did one where I searched blindfolded for small pieces of paper scattered through the apartment. Each one had a letter on it. I had to listen to him call out where they were and retrieve them blindfolded. Then once I had them all, I took off the blindfold and solved a word puzzle.

Did you do some survival-related research?
Yes. I got a copy of the US Army Survival Manual.

Quote:
Did you prepare a guideline for yourself for a possible final tribal council speech?
I did.

I really liked Tocantins. Maybe because it was the first one I watched when I got back into "Survivor' mode, maybe bc there were great characters. Also the fact that Jalapao had the better strategists IMO and were able to "suck out" on Timbura was pretty interesting to watch.

If not, how did they find you? Have you read any past 2+2 Survivor threads? I haven't watched any bio videos and don't even know what tribe you're on, but did you talk poker with Jim Rice? Does the show make any reference to you being a poker player?

(I feel like I could ask a thousand questions, but I'll stop here...for now.)
I was an applicant. I originally applied for "The Amazing Race" with one of my roommates who also lived in our Vegas poker house last summer. I was then filtered into the application process for Survivor as they are both CBS vehicles.

I was a huge fan of the early seasons but then wasnt able to watch a lot of the recent ones bc of my work schedule. Once I found out I might be on I delved back into the show hardcore and watched 7 seasons in about a month.

I actually made my living grinding low stakes cash games in FL for a couple yrs.

Played a couple small buy-in Hold 'em events last WSOP. I lived in LV for the summer of '10 grinding cash games.

I figure the 2p2 community might get a kick out of having a member on the show.

There's another poker player on this season, but I cant really comment on how good or BAD I think he may be at poker. Although I'd really love too!

He showed nice results in WPTs back in the heyday of fish infested fields.

I noticed you said you coached baseball. Was it disheartening to find out that you weren't the alpha COACH of the tribe, once you realized COACH BEN WADE was there?

Was the DRAGON SLAYER as intimidating in real life as he seems on TV?
