Show really fell off a cliff after season 5.

Glad i kept watching this show, this season was way better then the last 4 or so.

Apparently there are 2 more seasons to go.

I agree, season 8 has been much much better than 6 and 7. It's not all been great, there were still a lot of weak episodes but also a bunch of good. The last 3-4 felt like a return to form and the finale was great.

Hopefully this will finally have solved the problem of Castiel being too powerful to be part of the group so we can have him be a part of the whole of s9. Also glad Crowley didn't die, could be some interesting potential with him next season if the effects of the blood don't fully wear off.

All in all i'm looking forward to s9, i just hope the writers know where they are going with the story.

(Also we need more Death, coolest character by far)

Bleh, i thought that was one of the worst season finales ive ever seen.

All season long, we're closing the gates of hell, oh yea we're so doing it bro high five!, we're upto second trial now zomg, its finally happening yay.

Then finally when theyre there at the last moment, meh lets not do it we know how to fight them anyways.

For some reason i thought this was the last season leading upto the finale, so that didn't help either.

I can imagine that would be frustrating. I knew there were 2 more seasons so the gates were pretty much 0% to be closed.

I think that was the main problem with this series, it really lacked direction. All the stuff with Benny that just went nowhere is the most obvious example. Even so i think this season was better than 6 and 7 which were pretty terrible and i'm reasonably optimistic going forward. Now that we know there will be only 2 more seasons it seems likely the writers have their exact end game mapped out.

Loved this show up until I finished all the episodes on netflix, waiting a week for each episode isn't worth it.

Marathoned the current season this week. Not terrible, but not good.

They were smart to bring back recurring characters like Charlie and Sheriff Mills. Good casting decisions with Metatron and Abbadon.

The strength of this season is interesting or well acted secondary characters, while the weakness is a boring storyline. Human Castiel is also great.

After seasons 6-8 this season seems golden. As long as they dont bring back the LOLviathians im happy. Also the two episodes that aired after your post were really good... best of the season so far, IMO.

Agree that a big part of the strength of the show is the secondary characters. Its just unfortunate that as soon as a secondary character becomes three dimensional or interesting, they kill him/it off. Abbadon and Metatron are well cast, but theyre pretty superficial as characters (Abbadon much more so)

If i was a supernatural B list character I would do everything in my power to stay one dimensional, boring, and cliche because to get interesting is pretty much a death sentence. Crowley is a dead man walking at this point hes getting way too interesting. No way he makes it to season 10.

No surprise that Abbadon, who is completely one dimensional and not really interesting at all, is also immortal?

I read recently that the producers/network say that a spin off is coming, and that the show itself is likely to have several more seasons in it.

Someone tell me that it's worth finishing season 9. Or not.

I think season 9 is pretty damn good. Definitely worth finishing. Way better than season 7 or 8.

They threw away their best one.

Spoiler:
What a waste of turning Dean into a demon. I guess they didn't want him to do anything too irredeemably evil, but damn, I was expecting a lot more mayhem.

Wikipedia says that the 10th season renewal was based on an 88% increase in viewership during season 9. That's a pretty impressive jump.

How has this season been so far, I could only get through half of episode one. Does it get better?

From the epicness of season 5 with Lucifer walking the earth, dean being a deammon looks like childs play.

The beginning was hard to watch, I agree, but Jensen Ackles finally fixed his hair, so it's better now.

They just had the 200th episode. It was playful and sweet. With that out of the way, the season might finally get moving.

This season is getting a great response, which I don't understand. Seems pretty terrible to me, mostly because of how Amara has a wildly inexplicable different power level ever single episode. The stuff with Chuck has also been handled really badly.

This season is a big improvement over the last few. They dialled back on the angsty dialogue, and they seem to be doing the MOTW episodes better. Castiel as Lucifer was fun.

I like how Amara was a mystery at first and we learned about her over time. Basically, she can destroy the world any time she wants, but she's waiting for a big, drama-filled confrontation with her brother.
