In the first episode when the Nazi and the gangster are listing off the three things the gangster shouldn't do all I thought was.... someone watched Inglorious Basterds

easily the best part of the entire show so far. i hope she somehow survives and joins the main group arc, that they are obviously putting together.. (old dude, cdc guy, responsible gangster, rat man, cdc ex-wife probably..) classic zombie/vampire fighting movie crew.

I'm the the camp that enjoyed episodes 3 and 4. Loved Rudy's rant when they pulled out the long grabber from the guy whose face they mashed.

Overall, it's turning into popcorn TV and I for one am okay with that. If you want True Detective 2.0, this ain't it. Once you embrace that, you can enjoy the ride a lot more.

Also, I kind of like the number of characters, and not knowing which ones might actually have a larger role down the road, versus just being background noise.

But yeah, the CDC lady is poorly written to begin with, and the actress is supremely awful.

Strain is amazing, anyone who has not watched this show ought to. I haven't really been this invested in a tv show since the days of Breaking bad and Dexter.

I'm still watching the Strain and I think it's goofy enough so that the things other people are finding cringe-worthy I'm just laughing and enjoying.

Having said that, I agree with most of FlyWf's post #72 . It's worth repeating: THERE ARE VAMPIRE ZOMBIES EATING PEOPLE.

And below quoted post is also so true...

Also, possible spoiler:
Spoiler:
Rumor is the wig is coming off in one of the next two episodes!

^^^ Balls. That is definitely a spoiler. I have no proof, but it's kinda obvious when you see why

Spoiler:
Casting a bald guy and giving him a wig in a story where an infection makes you lose your hair means he will absolutely get infected at some point. Otherwise, they wouldn't even bother giving him a wig or would just cast somebody else

Hey this episode was pretty good! This should've been the pilot.

Obligatory nitpicking though:

Holy **** even the CDC lady doctor gets a B plot about her family finances? **** you, show. Though I guess it's for the best that her mom has dementia, otherwise that conversation would be awkward:

MOM: "What was that! That guy had a stinger for a tongue and he was killing those people! How is that even possible?"

CDC LADY: "Oh yeah, I got attacked by one last night. This dude I work with beat it to death with a fire hydrant. Basically, all the people from the death plane are turning into those monsters. Probably a few hundred of them wandering around, maybe more by now."

MOM: ".... You've known about this since LAST NIGHT? And instead of telling the police and raising an alarm, you came to see me and spent all day getting your hair braided?!?! What the **** is wrong with you?"

The selective speaking/subtitling with foreign languages was kind of tilting. We're subjected to the "Polish-accented" and "German-accented" English in the flashbacks then the hot CDC lady just goes ahead and speaks in Spanish with subtitles?

If they kept the story about only the main CDC guy and Walder Frey, it would be a better show (possibly the rat guy too)

Definitely better this week. It looks like things will get moving now. Hopefully we can stop wasting time with this annoying family back stories.

Some lols still from this week:

1. CDC guys shows video to bosses. They just want to arrest him.
2. CDC chick and Mom? Really? Like why do we even need this character?

Rat man is back! (albeit briefly)
Wacko religious chick did us all a favor (was worried she was still going to be around)

Hope factor went up this week from 1 to 5.

why do shows still insist we "emotionally invest" with every character? like if CDC doctor gets killed down the line, would people really be upset we never got to know her? will people now feel bad b/c we know she has a mother?

A bit of a step down from last week. Way too much time spent on characters I know nothing about.

- Again with the CDC chicks mom
- Who cares about the boyfriend. Just kill him already

On the good side Rat Man is already a killing machine. He went from "OMG, creepy zombie people!!" to "Kill'em all" in about 10 seconds.

Lold at the rat man really is supersmart but wanted to do his own thaaaang background. Woulda been more plausible if he was from a poor upbringing or something. Not given much choice than to go straight to work

The Strain is better than Tyrant, which IMO is trite and boring, and Tyrant is way better than The Event.

Much better then The Event

But here's the episode breakdown

1.1 - Decent
1.2 - Still decent
1.3 - Getting worried!
1.4 - Really worried!!
1.5 - Whew! Much better
1.6 - Still better with a little too much character development

So yeah about episode 4 you start to wonder if you've made a mistake but it gets much better after that and seems to be on the right track now. Not amazing TV but worth watching. At least I'm looking forward to see what happens now.

Yeah you could literally start next episode without having missed anything so long as you're aware the premise is a plague of vampires in New York, but come on, a plague of vampires. How are you gonna not watch that?

I feel like the show is either not going fast enough or too fast. I either want a slow burn where the outbreak is brewing for a long while and the audience is on the tip of the seat with dramatic irony, or it sweeps through the city in a day and the show is a chaotic dystopia.

Sadly, I feel like it will end up in a middle ground, where we'll be left feeling like a lot of the tension buildup was fake and things are generally the same several seasons from now

Wow show got unreal good with the vampire hunting militia to help out "the Jew."
