Haha, yeah. The dude Oliver was clearly doing it to evoke a sense of kinship between him and the leader. In South Korea it's very highly regarded being able to speak English fluently.

Never understood why they did that until your post, ty.

Ep 3 is up btw.

Spoiler:
i didn't enjoy this episode as much as the first two tbh. i think the fact that there's still 20 people left made it hard to keep track of all the social dynamics (for me at least), especially in the Nopdong society. also, human janggi was an awesome challenge but the challenges in these last two episodes haven't been even close to as good. they're decent but i hope we get more challenges that are as compelling as human janggi to watch.

that being said, i'm still really excited for next episode. potential rebellion in Madong plus a tribe swap should make for a good episode.

i think its funny that they pixelate out armpits. I know i've noticed this before, still get a crack out of it.

spoiler because discussion of the 'coming up on episode 4'

Spoiler:
"resident swap". seems too early for this. early enough in the game that its hard to tell whether its going to stagnate or not. every time it seems like it will, they present some plotting that could potentially go somewhere. once resident swaps start though, certainly potential to shake things up, especially if any inner circle members get moved.

Well established that a team of 3 is guaranteed to make final 3 on dictatorship side (though this episode did do a good job of explaining the risk of that...that teammates will just intentionally lose every game and the 3 won't win any money) - but it seems that a team of only 3 could do the same thing on voting side.

only 3 people can run for president. Not sure why that rule is in place. why not let as many people run as want to run. But if you had a team of 3, and were somehow quick enough or observant enough or whatever to ensure that you were always the ones to get your placards up on the wall first, you'd always win.

probably some unexplained reason why this wouldnt work. maybe someday we'll get 4 people trying to run and we'll see something happen, a race to get nominated or something.

Any episode that my boys Oliver and Sahyuk and my home girl MJ survive is a good episode :P

Hoping that Auntie Hwang gets her way and they pull in the 2 boys for a 5-some alliance

What was the Radiohead-sounding song during the episode 3 elimination?

I don't really understand the purpose of the jail. I get that ice is a nice reward since it is hot, but they said the person in jail is safe from challenges and elimination. But if the leader picks who goes to jail and who is eliminated, the safety from elimination seems pointless. I guess in a challenge where more people is a disadvantage you could put someone in there, but both sides will obviously do that, so there is no real strategic gain.

Oliver, my man

At least he went out on top, performing the best in the challenge

Why didn't they both put someone in jail for the challenge?

The forced single person tribeswap seems a bit of a rough obstacle to overcome. I thought Oliver was going to be spared.

Last few challenges need to be more strategic. THey haven't been great from a watchability point of view.

once the expedite rules came into play that let them reach the end game, backfired and it ended too fast. team red went from plenty of room, to literally every block removed within a single round. there was never any struggle to stay on.

might have been nice if they got rid of the 3 blocks per wrong answer at the end. not showing the repeats would have been enough to keep the game moving, and wouldn't have ended so abruptly.

the game was designed for the team red to lose since they had an extra player solving the problem.

lmao, am i the only one who found this BTS hilarious? all i can think about when kyungryul is celebrating when seolhwa says she prefers him over sangook is the "kyungryul, who loves his wife and has been married for 3 years..."
it really is amazing that Hael wasn't eliminated after this

So we didn't see who the blacklist was used on? Gonna guess... Heejun?

Crazy ending to the ep. I would've hated if Sangguk just left like that though. He seems revitalized to shake things up in the next ep at least, so that's good.

Really stupid to not just eliminate Sangguk. Like, I get it, he's stronger than the chick however it's not like he's just gonna be cool with it and be a team player with no repercussions now

Was that Sangguk play a strategic one to get rid of Seolhwa? Or did he actually want to leave?
Society Game Quote

He 100% wanted to leave

He's also one of the few celebs on the season, so that prolly played a part too, he's under a lot of scrutiny (esp in Korean culture) and he has stuff he maybe wants to get back to

If this were The Genius, Sangguk wouldn't have hit the gong and both teams would have failed at revolution. He would use that as a teaching moment to show that they are stronger balanced and that they need to work together to win, and if they lose, they need to cut the weakest players, not play politics.

Even though he missed that opportunity, I'm def glad he didn't get cut. Curious what happens next time.

Yeah, when they were preparing to reveal the prize money distribution, I figured "whichever person didn't get any money added will know he or she is going home."
