SNL - It's funny again! (seriously its not) SNL - It's funny again! (seriously its not)

This may be the most creatively bankrupt show on TV. They come up with one original sketch a week with a cast of dozens of writers/actors. I had high hopes for Zach G and when they let him shine he was good, but the rest of the time he was playing peripheral characters in retreads of mediocre sketches.

Whenever someone does a crappy song for a monologue, that's when you know the person is a total hack, and that's happened at least 3 times this SNL season. Zach basically did his stand-up routine for this which is weird but whatever, way better than any garbage Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, or Blake freakin Lively could do.

Yeah wow...I was kinda drunk when I made that post and thought he was referring to the opening act (the Obama press conference) which was terrible. Yeah, I agree that Gariflniksksadkas's monlogue was pretty funny.

the family that kisses too much is so so dumb, and kicking off with Zach being a bit player in a rehashed dumb skit was incredibly disappointing. his monologue was great, and to go wit that after...ugh

Zack G was awesome, even though his material was uncreative. They could have done much more w/ him.

one thing I hate about SNL, like Pudge714 points out, is how the never have original skits. They go to the same playbook every show.

10 years ago, there would be signature skits, but they would no dominate the show. you could still tune in and catch something new. sometimes it would be awesome, sometimes it would fail.

I think the last 2(ish) years have been decent. But way too safe. They gotta go out of the box more. Seems like the only new stuff I see is coming from Andy Samberg.

The golden years were like about 1997-2000 imo.

Obama conference to start off sucked, but i thought the monologue was really funny. agreed with them rehashing the same skits getting old. I actually thought the kissing family one was funny this time, but this is like the 5th time they've done WHATS UP WITH THAT. Now i love watching Sudekis dance, but it's the same thing every time, i don't get why they think it's good idea to beat the death out of it.

edit:

<3 every skit Zach was in pretty much. shaving between skits was good stuff.

I haven't seen an ep of this show in a really long time. Had to see this one though. It was bad, but Zach's monologue was good and the Zach Stops By The Set was great. And him coming out with the dual-flute just about killed me. Nice that they brought out Seth Galafanakis at the end too.

This show got so freaking bad. There's a decent amount of talent in the performers, but nothing worth a sh*t from the writers.

This J-lo sketch making fun of the winter olympics was one of the funniest things I have seen on the show in years.

In that bit, Zach was like "This is it? That's all you're going to give me? Fine. Bring it mother f*ckers"

Goddamn that was funny. I was expecting Rudd to lose it at any moment.

what was the deal with shaved zach in the last skit, but bearded zach in the goodbye outro?

He shaved during Vampire Weekend and put on a fake beard for the goodbye.

okay, because of the title of this thread, I decided to give the show a shot, after not having watched it in over a decade.

You lied. It' still sucks.

Pretty weak episode last night which was disappointing since I usually have high hopes when they have an actual actor as host.

2 good skits in the second half - the talk show with Ravish was good and the Twilight Zone spoof was excellent. Way too many recurring skits once again... and skits I thought fell flat the first time - Armisen's court stenographer and the Secret Word game show for example. Digital short wasn't great either.

Pearl Jam was solid as usual.

Episode saver...

It's pathetic that an episode with 3 original sketches is an improvement, I enjoyed this but fast forwarded through stenographer and secret game show. I notice there are a lot of sketches that deconstruct popular movies/tv shows and I suspect a lot of those sketches are written by John Mulaney who had a really good debut standup album called The Top Part.

Stuff like this reminds me a lot of some of the Twilight Zone, Vicky Cristina Barcelona type sketches.

If this guy is writing a lot of the SNL sketches, I get why it's not funny whatsoever anymore.

couple funny skits last night, a few horrible ones. Show needs new writers who will bring some new ideas in. They actually have a few funny regulars on the show, that do a good job acting. Just need some new ideas. Law was really good imo and it reaffirms my belief that only legit actors/actresses and comedians should host.
