Re: Shows like pawnstars, auction hunters and storage wars?

When they had a 1 hour special Storage Wars episode they sat around a poker table or something and I remember they were talking about the behind the scenes stuff and they said they would buy around 40-50 units and they would show the best ones on tv. Basically what an earlier poster said, its 'staged' like the wsop is 'staged' on tv.

Man, Dave buying that dusty storage unit for $2200 and then pricing out everything was irritatingly bad. Saying that lace was worth $1k???? LOL, looked like old, out dated window dressings.

Come on lady it's from a special island that makes top dollar lace and he can tell that just from looking at it for ten seconds.

I mean I don't see stuff like that for .50 cents at every yard sale ever and I'm sure you don't either.

Jarrod and Brandi may make $160 over the span of two years if everything in the unit sells for what they priced it at. And to buy, move, stock and price the stuff probably took two full work days for multiple people. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON!

Re: Shows like pawnstars, auction hunters and storage wars?

Yeah, the pricing has progressively gotten higher, worse, and more vague as the show has gone on.

They'll pickup a pile of clothes and just go...500!!! And I'm like...uh...new?

Technically the whole show has jumped the shark anyway. The only real way to make money doing what they do is to own a whole freaking store to help you sell the crap, and that wasn't exactly the point of the show from the beginning. Kind of shows you that they probably find less treasures than they thought they would when they initially began filming.

I hate you guys for pointing this out. I was happy watching this mindlessly and secretly thinking that I could do this also. Now I see how full of crap they actually are, and it's lost some of it's luster.

I did love the Yuuup truck, though. Awesome.

yea damnit i never really noticed the bad pricing before but last night was absurd. mini-d priced a used original xbox at $100. prob closer to $10.

used cd's $3 each? bahahahahahahaha. nice one jared.

darrell found that sack full of SLR cameras and lenses. valued them very highly and gave mini-d a high five. unfortunately they are basically worthless and he will never sell them.

Re: Shows like pawnstars, auction hunters and storage wars?

I hear that, when these storage lockers are auctioned, any money over what the storage company is owned/expenses for the auction is offered back to the owner of the locker who defaulted on payment.

So I think the real money is in ...
1. Rent a storage locker
2. Fill it with boxes labeled gold/silver/coins/collectibles and the like
3. Default on payment
4. Profit?

Is that how all storage lockers are really sold? Without being able to see its contents? Is that a legality issue?

LOL.

Also, LOL at Barry getting bumped on the head and then breaking that guys display glass too.

Edit - with Dave dusty unit of trash, anyone else notice Dave just points to a pile and says "That's $800" when it was never said what it was?

Also, Darryl asking Dave hows his line of credit, makes me wonder if Dave is upside down or Darryl is just jealous.

Re: Shows like pawnstars, auction hunters and storage wars?

There's a new show in this vein called Rock Stars on NatGeo.

I guess it's more like Ice Road Truckers or Deadliest Catch but with a group of dudes who scale cliffs and protect cars on mountain roads from getting crushed by falling boulders. I've only seen one ep but it had some good stuff with giant rocks causing mayhem.

Anyone else seen it?

Yeah all that stuff was crap and they act like it's gold like the viewer has no freaking clue what used crap sells for, none of us ever put anything on eBay, Craigslist or sold at a flea market or yard sale.

I still watch all these shows though I enjoy seeing what they find, I'd rate the shows as follows.

Storage shows.

Storage Wars 1. Storage Hunters 2. Auction Hunters 3.

Pawn shows.

Hardcore Pawn 1. and Pawn Stars 2.

I dislike American Pickers both those dudes get on my nerves stopped watching, also don't care for Picker Sisters nor Auction Kings ( the whole staff seems douchey ) and I can't stand the Pawn Queens one either watched it once never again.
