What about Ted/Tawny in season 1? Can't believe this hasn't been talked about but their interactions are just bizarre. It is so glaring it has to be intentional in its unbelievability but I can't figure out what the point of doing that is.
I love the Ted/Tawney relationship and their scenes together are probably my favorite on the show.
Seems to me that they do barely know each other, in a sense. The impression is that Ted is a charming extrovert who swept Tawney off her feet. Tawney by contrast seems a little shy, naive and lacking in self-confidence. So they got married and you get the impression Tawney is never quite sure about her husband... unsure if she loves him, unsure if he would ever hurt her physically, and unsure if he is a good person.
Ted is the aging jock/prom king type who knows deep down he's married someone who is probably too good for him, and he is deathly afraid of his wife realizing that fact.
That's my take anyways. I think both those actors deserved Emmy noms (in fact Rectify got zero noms total I believe, which is ridiculous).
