Two person panels tend to do that.

Cornell West really is a radical leftist. There was a moment Maher was trying to get him to admit things would have been better off had Clinton won but he was having none of it. He kept saying both candidates were bad therefore the same. He wouldn't budge even when Maher asked him about the people about to lose their health insurance. The sad thing is he appeals to many people. There was a section in the audience applauding him. The way he preaches appeals to people emotionally even though he lacks substance and logic a lot of the time. Towards the end before new rules he was saying to Maher "you're wrong" and you could hear Neal Degrasse Tyson trying to jump in saying "he's not wrong though" before being cut of.

Clinton wasn't pure enough so let's have the exact opposite. Makes complete sense.

Imagine how dumb you have to be to think that Cornel West is bad and dumb, but Bill Maher is good and wise.

West is a really smart dude, but the idea that we shouldn't vote for our preferred candidate if they aren't 'pure' is what gave us Trump. He wasn't wrong that Hillary had problems, he was wrong that our response should be indifference.

Cornell was bad and dumb on that point while Bill was good and wise. In general I'm not particularly fond of either tho

Do you even watch the news? No one is saying people cant protest. These protesters have sent people to the hospital, maced girls, physically attacked a girl helping charles murrays. On top of just straight disinviting a ton of people they dont agree with or autisticly screeching so no one can hear them

Good interview with Sasse and good panel but Maher has gotta go for using that awful slur.

Were you calling for the same when he used the N word multiple times in the past with regards to Obama?

Bill was making a joke about the Senator's "in the fields" comment being redneck and insinuating slavery, not slurring African Americans. Another moronic non-controversy.

It's interesting. Does this same outrage arrise if he uses the same context for the joke but instead says "I'm a house negro"?

It's funny, Watching the show last night I knew the second he made that comment there would be backlash from the PC police. The only thing that upsets me about it is that he has apparently apologized for it, after spending the past 6 months criticizing the left (correctly imo) for wasting their energy worrying about what pronoun people use to refer to Caitlyn Jenner rather than bringing attention to more important issues.

I'm annoyed as hell with this n word controversy, the joke was hilarious & black people need to stop being so sensitive. The worse thing in all of this black people are so openly racist/racial both behind closed doors & in public that they really need to lighten up on race jokes. As long as the joke is in jest who gives a fuark.

A famous and rich black man said the word feels like a knife coming from a white person, because of centuries of history (I say "famous and rich" to show that it's still bad even for him). A black woman backed him up. Millions of black people feel the same way (granted, some probably do not).

What more do you need? Don't say the ****ing word. How far do you want to take the stupid ****ing "free speech" thing?

1) Nobody (or few) is advocating government censorship, for starters.

2) You're free to say it, of course. Maher is "free" to say it. He's also free to slip into each monologue graphic details about somebody he'd like to rape and kill and how he would do it (let's say he presents them as "jokes"). Would this be acceptable too? Is it acceptable to tell your boss you'd love to **** him? Would it be acceptable and something we "all need to lighten up about" if people wanted to start telling small children graphic rape and murder "jokes"?

3) Where's your line?

4) "black people need to stop being so sensitive" - can't believe I replied actually. You should just be banned.

I was very surprised when he dropped that N-bomb last week (to be honest I'm white and I laughed) but I didn't think it would result in all this.

Pretty standard white guy got a little too comfortable in being down with the cause.
The joke was funny in Bill skewering his 'privilege' in one sense (rich, celebrity). Just not his joke to make.

Hello Friends,

I am surprised how nonchalant everybody is about using the n-word in this thread. Using this word is hate speech. Unless you are an African American, you have no idea how hurtful this word is and you have no right to just say "get over it".

I am surprised HBO did not at least suspend Bill Maher for a few weeks. And the fact they did not, tells me a whole lot.

It tells me that HBO is ok with having a bigot and a racist live on their channel.

Aside from this single incident, what evidence is there that Maher is a racist and bigot?

One who is not a racist and/or a bigot, does not just use that word and act like nothing happened at all. Go back and watch the clip. He uses that word and acts so normal as if he said Neapolitan ice cream instead.
