Preacher Preacher

Based on the classic. Notorious. Classically notorious comic book by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

Trailer just dropped:

Often considered unfilmable, been in development hell for years, but AMC is looking for their next Walking Dead and comic book properties are hot right now. Trailer is good but no idea what to expect from this. Could be epic; could be a complete trainwreck.

I'll be watching from day 1. Probably my second most anticipated series behind Jessica Jones.

I've never read the comics but from what I know it is arguably a top ten all time series so I know the source material is great.

The trailer left much to be desired though. They didn't touch on the supernatural aspects at all. Would have loved to have heard "God has left the building" once in that trailer.

*Ennis (sorry)

Very, very, very hyped for this!

Preacher was one of the first comic book series I ever read, back when I was just a kid.

They also didn't mention the voice of god. Like the "Lucifer" adaptation they're inherently walking a fine line that could result in massive controversy from Fundies (which may or may not be a good thing). Not at all surprising that they wouldn't court backlash in the trailers and keep it a bit subtle until it's too late and the show's on the air.

What matters is the show itself and how much they puss out. Hence all my equivocating in the OP.

I have all the original comics, got them as they came out. Big fan.

I have measured excitement for this as i expect it to be quite different, but i'm optimistic for sure.

Casting for Jesse and Cassidy looks good, it looks like Cassidy's character will be a little more goofy than the comic which is fine imo.

Didn't see Tulip at all in the trailer and the IMDB page doesn't have a character listed with that name, probably just changed the name of her character i would assume.

Tulip is being played by Ruth Negga (Raina in Agents of SHIELD). In the trailer she's sitting in a car at 34 seconds.

I hadn't looked at the cast list before, I'm just happy to see Arseface there

Liked the comics, but hope that this will take off mainly because that might bring them to take on "Just a Pilgrim" or "The Boys" next!

Ah ok, thanks for that.

I'm stoked for the Arseface too.

Preacher is probably my favorite comic (and Ennis one of my favorite writers) but I'm not getting hyped for this adaptation. I'm not expecting it to be good so if it is it will be a pleasant surprise and if it isn't then no big deal.

The casting seems fine from what little is shown (Jesse seemingly the best casted, Cassidy the most iffy). Nothing of the supernatural stuff is shown but apparently all the footage is from the very first episode so it seems to just be about establishing the characters. My guess is Genesis shows up at the end of the first episode.

The Walking Dead is another of my favorite comic series and I got super hyped when the TV show was announced and basically counted down the days until it premiered. Holy **** what a pile of garbage that turned out to be.

Future GOAT candidate? This is one of the best pilots I've ever seen. So much fun.

I am cautiously optimistic but not super happy about a lot of changes they have made.

Ruth Negga is awesome as always and Joe Gilgun could potentially be a great Cassidy.

Yawn.

See I know nothing about the comics so it's all new to me.

Big fan of comics and I really enjoyed the premiere. Hope they don't go too overboard with the violence/gore though because this story is about the characters more than anything.

Don't like the I'm-so-goofy! version of Cassidy but I'm willing to give it a chance. The cow thing was pretty funny so I'm willing to change my mind. They certainly did try to jam a bunch of the characters in all at once. No need to introduce Root & Arseface this early.

Was sad when I realized they weren't going to include the church incineration intro scene.

Are the investigating dudes supposed to be Grail members? Is the guy that ate the teabag supposed to be Stark?

Certainly has potential.

Never heard of the comic. Watched half and then deleted the rest. Not my cup of tea.

Never heard of the comic, just caught a preview a few days ago on AMC and was intrigued enough to check it out. Thought it was pretty cool and I'll be sticking around for more.

i like all involved, people tell me it's a classic comic... but i don't know the comic, therefore had zero clue what was even going on. that wasn't very good, but I'll stick around for a bit.

As expected there were some changes from the comics, but damn, such a good start. Some ground work has been laid for some of the critical story lines(his dad) too. I liked Cassidy and Custer, not sold on Tulip yet but we'll see.

OOTV is definitely sleeping on this one.

Never heard of the comics, really liked the premier. Just seemed fun, especially juxtaposed against FTWD, which is a total buzzkill and the opposite of fun.

Also never heard of the comic and wasn't sure what to expect. I liked the pilot and will stick around to see where it goes. I'm guessing the source material is in the Neil Gaiman-ish genre of graphic novels?
