Another great episode, loving the callbacks and the fact that there are other teams out there. I'd probably watch POI 2.0.

Nice call out:

Rambling thoughts:

- I wasn't satisfied with the way that Greer died, nor with how Samaritan died really. They had been dangling and teasing the idea of Harold letting the Machine "defend itself" and "giving it the ability to fight" but that never ended up coming into play, which felt like a bit of a let down.

- Enjoyed the brief alternate reality clips that showed what would happen if the Machine was never created.

- Did NOT expect Fusco to get shot at all, was expecting POI reserve squad to save the day. Did not see the vest coming at all.

- WTF is the series finale gonna be about? The virus spreading?

- Remembering back to the season premiere with the Root voice-over in the subway, I guess that has to come into play in the finale.

- There are still copies of the Machine and Samaritan in the subway in the cage the Harold built, disconnected from everything, right? I bet that's how we get back to the subway

^^ They all go back to the trainstation and this was just a Samaritan simulation from Shaw and now Samaritan got the hiding spot

Pretty much a perfect finale and ended a wonderful yet under loved show.

The final shot of the show needs to be a ringing phone, in a full Nolan ending where it tells you what happened but people over think it and think it is open to debate.

John dying for the machine instead of Harold was the right end to his character and perfectly summed him up, especially combined with the flash back to his dad's funeral and the alternative time line ending.

The last two episodes were It's a Wonderful Life and The Iron Giant all rolled up into one.

Pretty amazing that everyone but John got out alive (including The Machine!). Harold even got a happy ending. Once The Machine took Root's voice, I had a pretty strong feeling we weren't hearing Root in the first episode of the season. So, that wasn't much of a surprise, but definitely never saw any way most of them would make it out alive.

I really liked The Machine faking Harold out with the briefcase. I figured it out a few moments before it happened, but still, good foreshadowing (including The Machine opening the vault). It was also completely in character for The Machine to not let Harold die. It was one more piece of proof of how much of a polar opposite she was to Samaritan. Samaritan sacrificed its gatekeeper to kill Harold, while The Machine did everything she could to make sure her gatekeeper never died.

Kind of surprised they fired a missile into New York, but I guess it's not too soon anymore nearly 15 years later.

I didn't have a problem with the Greer death. He was always an obedient servant to Samaritan all the way to the end. He just forgot Harold's resourcefulness (always his blind spot, in my opinion), and also forgot he has about 25 years on Harold, and his 20 pack a day lungs didn't have much air in them. In that episode, I really wish we would have gotten a live Taraji curtain call, but it was still a nice callback.

I had high hopes for this series the moment I saw its super strong Pilot (one of my favorites I had seen in years). It never disappointed, and it went out in the best way it could based on how they told the story. And the best part is that having all the "happy" endings wasn't disappointing to how they told the story. We still had to pour one out for Root and Elias, but it was a really great end to a fantastic network show. Now on to Westworld!

I wouldn't mind a spinoff with the three Team Machine members who saved John in D.C.

This was an amazingly under-rated show. One of the best on network television I can ever remember.

Why does this show have to end? Network TV doesn't have an abundance of great shows that they can just let a show this damn good leave the air. This was an honest and, yet, intriguing show that always delivered. Good writing and excellent acting parlayed this show into GOAT territory, for me.

Bad ratings, the fact they let it go this long was a testament to how good the show was.

The ratings for POI were never terrible or great. Their erosion was consistent with nearly every other CBS show in its ratings ballpark throughout its run (no way anyone predicted good ratings after the year layoff for the burn off). It also always had solid DVR numbers. I'm happy with the final season it got. It's not like this show was ever intended to run 14 seasons. They told enough story in that time, and the worst thing that could have happened to it was a constant quality erosion once it passed its true prime. No one's ever going to look back at this show and think they wished they'd stopped watching it sooner. The wheelhouse of where shows start to suffer is around season 6. Unless you're doing pure procedural, you'll really struggle by then. Even the other excellent network drama Grimm had to completely re-invent itself to go into the 6th season on better footing. It's just right to end POI where it did. They were pretty lucky Caviezel didn't want out a lot earlier.

The buzzfeed article dave linked to is worth a read.
