If anything, we learned this (and that he's held onto this identity).

Episode was ok imo.

I think he's a much better actor than I thought he was going to be.

I get shivers when he does his whispery voice.

SHIVERS JUST THINKING ABOUT IT NOW

Probably the best episode of the season. Focusing on the lady cop was a good move. She's my favorite character on the show.

My favorite episodes are ones where Reese shoots someone in the leg.

I like it when he shoots people but they don't bleed.

He grenade launchered that freaking garage door, shot 3 guys in the chest, and they all sat there clutching.

The woman cop shot hector in the car too and he got out with no blood and clutching his chest too.

COME ON!

I'm not sure he really shot them, because it's generally not his style to kill people. It looked like they were shot in the chest (mistake?), but one of the guys he shot was clutching his leg. Maybe he shot them with rubber bullets. It's hard to get a bunch of dead guys to send a message to Hector.

They have no blood budget, they spend all their money making Caviezel's whispers loud enough to understand on TV. I'm a Mixer and that stuff takes many many hours, at millions of dollars in cost.

Hector looked like he had a lot of muscles, maybe he was holding his blood in with brute strength.

I'm pretty sure those were rubber bullets or some such thing.

Ha, I'm a sound editor and every episode I watch I think, is there a single line of Caviezel's dialog that isn't looped?

Hahaha, excellent. I think I've heard a few lines that aren't looped, but the vast majority of his dialog is clearly ADR. My explanation for why he whispers is that he's terrible at ADR, and he barely moves his mouth, when he's on screen. It's much easier to match whispers to any environment than it is normal volume dialog, so even if it's not the real reason, it does kind of make sense.

What's adr?

It means Automated Dialog Replacement. It's when you go into a recording booth after the film/video was shot on location to replace bad sounding dialog. It's usually used when audio is unusable from the field (too much background noise, RF hits, etc.), there is a script change, or an error was made in the direction of a take and no other options are available. 12 years ago, in movies and high profile TV shows, if the sound was even remotely noisy, it would be ADR'd. These days, a huge amount of sound is real (recorded on set), and I think a lot of productions prefer ADR as more of a last resort. Most of the stuff I work on doesn't get the royal treatment, so I have to do everything I can to salvage bad audio, without the benefit of ADR.

With just one tool that I won't mention here, most dialog these days is salvageable (not made perfect), so usually when you hear ADR in shows it's because someone's talking too softly in a loud background (airplane fly over, sirens go by, refrigerator interference, etc.), or the other reasons I mentioned above. Plus, most of the time, the audio is done with Lavalier microphones, which means it's usually going to be "good" enough to use. I only use the LAV mics when I absolutely have to, because the voice quality is much better on a boom microphone. And, with some of the tools a lot of people have at their disposal, even most of the boom mic sound is salvageable (that's where most background noise problems occur). I am guessing the post production audio houses for every network TV show have access to the tool I'm mentioning, but a lot of lower end places do not.
