First 5 min I was worried but this still delivered.

If u had told me Ron loved scavenger hunts I woulda been skeptical of the truth to the character but this somehow worked

Liked the ep, Swanson is really cool. Plus, Martin Starr is awesome, as always !
(btw can someone make me a gif with him "fixing" the snowglobe ? that would be delightful)

I was hoping there would be more of a Party Down reunion than just Starr + Scott, but it was fine.

Dudd -- I counted three stories (Ben/Ron/Andy/scavenger hunt, Leslie helping Ann find a date, Chris mourning Millicent dumping him). And the Chris one *was* a bit undernourished, but the monk music was funny.

That's why he distrusts government so much.

Caught my first episode of this show yesterday and really enjoyed it. I'm sure I missed some inside jokes about the characters but I really want to catch up on it now.

Meh, there was enough crossover in the Chris and Ann part that I just counted it as one party storyline. Like, April bringing Orin as her bachelor and then Orin later rocking out to Chris's sad music with a huge smile on his face, that's the type of small joke that would be hard to set up with three unconnected plotlines.

There was also a Stars On-Demand reference!

The first thing that jumped out at me about this was actually Sepinwall's review, where he talks about the way April and Andy talked about eachother as being a the first signs of them having issues. I think that's a terrible, terrible misread of what they were doing there and am starting to wonder if Sepinwall has had a stroke or something. Both in terms of his analysis on his podcast and his reviews, he's just saying a lot of dumb, wrong things.

Rant aside- I liked this. Nick Offerman is so damn good and Adam Scott works really well with him. The Ron, Ben, Andy show would be great all alone.

Tom and Ann works they way they're doing it, I kinda hope they don't go much farther, but a little bit to humanize Tom after he was (to me) a bit too much of a douche early in the season is nice.

Chris's lustgaze at Jerry is the new Stop Pooping.

Either I've been jumping timelines again or the beginning of this episode was extremely similar to another one they've done. I can't remember which one tho. Same table, same ladies gathering...maybe it was Galentine's from a previous year? A minute into this episode and I was triple checking that this was not a repeat.

There was a whole episode devoted to Galentines Day in season two I think.

Edit: Yep. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galentine%27s_Day

I noticed it last night as well. I was thinking pregnant because they had her in that loose fitting frumpy dress and she was constantly carrying her jacket or handbag in front of her stomach.

Most likely it was just the dress because she's looked fine in every episode leading up to last night.

I don't read Sepinwall, so can't really comment on his other analysis: but I completely agree that the writers are seeding some issues between Andy and April. Last night was the 3rd or 4th time that Andy (during a monologue/interview) has described April with it ending awkwardly - "she's crazy/weird etc.".

Also, it makes perfect sense from a story progression standpoint for Andy/April to have problems in future episodes.

As an aside, and not to be a downer (also don't think P&R is at risk of no-renewal but who knows)... but geezus the ratings suck for P&R. Does not help that 30 Rock (its leadin) has even worse, more horrendous ratings.

I read all of that "she/he's crazy" stuff as always being closed with "and that's why I love her" and that being the end of it. Maybe that's just me being a romantic or something, but I just don't buy that that's a seed that's being planted. Obviously if the show keeps on, they'll want to explore both characters maturing and will have to do something with the relationship- but I hope that's not something they do super soon.

Shouldn't any discussion of ratings for NBC hinge on how they're doing relative to other NBC properties? I mean P&R might be doing horribly, but so is the whole network.

Oh- Ron in the gay bar was fantastic. I feel like there had to be a (terrible and thankfully small) portion of the audience that was expecting him to be super grossed out or something- and they just went against that so well.

I thought the way that the actor who plays Andy sold it (in all instances) was v. specifically in a sort of "questioning" manner... who knows, that's just how it struck me. it just wouldn't be all that surprising if those 2 started having some real issues, and that became a central drams for some kind of story arc.

Well it's both - there's the empirical PnL/ratings of P&R, and then there's having to look at something to return next season. Unfortuantely for P&R, it's actually near the bottom-end of the bad NBC performers for sitcoms.

I just read Andy as perpetually confused/introspective. I would agree that the conflict may be more likely to come from Andy, an super nice dude, being annoyed with April being mean than with April being annoyed that Andy's a man-child. (although I will also admit that if they ever break them up, I may have to be restrained from furiously tweeting at Ken Tremendous).

Makes me wonder if NBC would have the balls to just kill off every sitcom they have now except for The Office due to ratings and just hope for the best with whatever they have in development, preferably cheaper, multi-cam, laugh track ones like Whitney.

Congrats to Harris Wittels, who got the producer credit and got to play himself in that episode. P&R has a great writing staff - NBC would be insane to kill what they have on Thursday.

One of the first things my wife said when we watched this episode, was something like "Oh, I see Rashida got pregnant too!"

I enjoyed the scene where Ron went to the gay bar looking for a clue.

If their goal is to shed the critical acclaim along with the ratings they've already gotten rid of, this is a great strategy.
