America's Got Talent 2012 America's Got Talent 2012

Season 7 debuts tonight, with Howard Stern replacing Piers Morgan.

Show is pretty low brow, and it sucks that singers always win over more creative acts (Fighting Gravity, Illuminate, etc.), but I still enjoy the variety aspect.

Howard was really good, but the acts were awful.

Stern and AGT don't seem like a good fit to me yet. He just tries to self-promote too much. AGT isn't supposed to be about him.

Last night was a slow start with only a few interesting acts.

Homemade muscial instrument guy has potential.

Crossbow guy is a douche, but at least he delivered.

Cute singing kid is cute.

Judges are overrating Illuminate ripoff and father-daughter duet.

Why the hell did they send the Pakistani singer thru??

Howard is good imo. But he is hogging too much, and also the judges should argue w/ each other more, like they did under Pierce.

Anyway, I don't give a **** about the acts anymore, I have realized I care more about the ppl/stories. This is the ultimate feel good show.

The show is way too sappy.

Granny G was the perhaps the stupidest thing I have ever seen on TV. And I remember Pink Lady and Jeff.

Never saw the show before, and my affection for Howard caused me to tune in. I wasn't expecting him to perform in any particular way, just sort of hoping for his unique flavor, and I didn't think his personality really shined in this format at all.

And like others have been saying--too many crap acts and too many of those that were allowed to advance. I really can't believe they allowed the "freestyle" rapper to stay on.

The contest seems way too sprawling. What's the criteria for entering/winning? What does the winner get, anyway?

I heard the ratings are lower than they were with Piers, and I am looking forward to how Howard addresses it/spins it on the show.

Yeah, I call bull**** on that so-called freestyle rapper who claimed he made it all up on the spot.

And if I never see another dance troupe on this shoe again, it would be too soon.

It would make sense if he made it up on the spot, because it sucked, yet I agree that he probably didn't.

What did you think of the crossbow act? In what universe is that a marketable stage act?

I haven't seen one act that could headline in Vegas.

The crossbow was cool...but it's a five minutes, tops.

Was looking forward to Howard, but it just doesn't work so far. A far as the content of the show it's pretty much like this every year. The ratings will probably go up when DWTS is over and the other season finales.

After having just watched Britain's Got Talent, which concluded last weekend, I was grossly put-off by AGT. Weird how the production feels so different. I hate virtually everything. BGT has this feel good vibe while AGT feels jerryspringeresque (just remembering he was one of the hosts previously), now that Stern is in, even more so.

Just a comment for anybody that hasn't watched before. The early rounds are normally like this. A bunch of crappy acts until they build up to a good act or somebody with a sappy story.

They tend to put a bunch of marginal acts through just because one of the judges gets a kick out of it (ie "Pakastani" singer). It's more of a dog and pony show right now, they put stupid stuff through for ratings.

It gets more serious in Vegas where they eliminate all the rifraff (although they normall keep a few acts that make you scratch your head).

Inevitably though, a singer or something normal and marketable will win the show.

And the winner of BGT?

A dog.

Some of the acts make good money after too. I think Terry Vadar has one of the biggest contracts in Vegas.

that 14 year old azn girl who sang was ridiculous

agree with the dance groups. especially the one with 2 gay dudes and all the girls, wtf are they gonna do? they cant even do unique physical tricks or anything (wow 1 dude did a backflip). afaik 1 dance group has had a successful vegas show and that was the jabberwocky's, who were totally innovative and really captivating. not a bunch of high schoolers doing a cheer routine that 95% of dance troupes could do. gtfo.

i thought the impressions that guy did were good, but agree with howard that he needed better jokes with them. also have a feeling he blew his load doing like 15 different impressions in the first audition.

the show is always LOLz at the beginning though, crap like the little kid and her dad getting through just because she was cute. cute is nice and all but im not popping off a 100 dollar show ticket and burning a night in vegas to watch that crap.

and re: howard making it all about himself- thats standard howard. he does that for everything hes ever done. look up a clip of him on someones talk show, he takes over the whole thing.

watching boys dance and do all the female mannerisms freaks me out. i admit my ignorance on that one. no problem with gay people, but just can't stand watching em dance.

none of the dance teams impressed me all that much. I'm watching for Howard and it's seeming like it's probably not worth it.

yeah, its like the judges cant comprehend what it takes for a dance group. hey, here is a bunch of boring dancers who do stuff in unison and make a joke about howie, id like to give them a million dollars and a show in vegas!

virtually any group that has been on ABDC is much more exciting than that.

now the street dancer, that was entertaining. it made you cringe, it made you wonder. like when he came out doing that slow motion walk it was like wtf how is that how a real person is moving

I hadn't watched AGT before. It's a remarkable difference between these episodes and early-season American Idol shows (as of a couple of years ago at least). This is so poorly edited and schlocky.

The audience's reactions are one of the best parts of the early shows. They generally love the same mediocre acts that the judges put through.
