Finale actually had a solid ratings increase. After Law and Order: SVU it's NBC's 2nd highest rated drama. Renewal is very likely at this point.

I was okay with the premise. Labor sucks, babies make it completly worth it.

I was ticked off how quickly the Amber is in trouble was resoved, but I loved Zeke making her realize how stupid it was.

Play was a bit meh, Adam going nuts after finding the pregnancy test was great.

Boo to Crosby and Jasmine magically getting back together.

I really like this show it's a tough though to wrap up all of the story lines into a neat bow like they did, makes it feel really rushed.

bump cuz the season premiere just aired.

solid. lots of interesting story lines being set up.

Spoiler:
i know less about alcoholism than qualifies me to comment so i'll just ask: was Alex's outburst that landed him in jail believable? seeing as how calm he remains with Max...it seemed a little off to me

I was a little bored - but i grew to really enjoy this show last season and it wasn't because of the fast pace. It was because of the subtlety, dialogue and acting. That seems to all still be there.

Not sure this needs to be in spoilers but:

Spoiler:
Doesn't really seem like it had anything to do with alcoholism. They guy was up in his face. He was a bit upset by the circumstances and it's within a lot of people's capability to punch that guy there - alcoholism notwithstanding

only spoilering cuz people might open without realizing there are new eps

Spoiler:
my reason for thinking it might be alcoholism related was cuz he seemed so mad Haddie was drinking/drunk. pbv she is underage but i didnt know if alcoholics have trouble coping with people close to them abusing alcohol because of what happened to the alcoholic.

and yes the guy got in his face but he's been presented as the most level headed guy on the show thus far so it seemed out of character

and yes the show is most enjoyable for the interactions so i'm just excited about which ones we'll have going forward

Yeah I guess what bored me a little was that it was the same interactions, around the same basic conflicts. I felt like it was just another episode from last season but I'm probably just being impatient. Everything is still there that should be for it to work at the end.

Erika Christensen and Lauren Graham were looking quite attractive.

Haddie and Amber both had some ****ed up hair.

I love drunk Adam and a good Braverman dance party.

I'm I the only one who would like this show if Haddie wasn't on ever again.

i'll give you a +1 on that. Of the major characters she's by far the one that I wouldn't miss if she were gone.

I like Amber but this current storyline seems kinda silly to me. I didn't pick up the show until the middle of last season. Wasn't she some grade A student? I find it hard to believe she would completely fall off the rails just because of not getting into the college of her choice.

if i recall correctly, she didn't get good grades at all. but her SAT score was super high and then only applied to Berkeley (and didn't get in) and kinda lost it. Only applying to one school isn't believable though...and in the CA college system I would think she coulda easily found a place to go (some schools accept u on GPA alone so the same might be true of SATs) ...but whatever

I thought this ep was pretty boring, not much happened. Maybe I just don't really care about the characters anymore, I'm not sure, when Alex slugged the guy I was like "meh, whatever."

Just finally watched the new episode.

Now I know it's been a long time since I was at an underage drinking party, but uhm if the cops show up do they let all the kids go and arrest the only sober person in the whole place? We used to do all we could to avoid a police presence at our illegal drinking parties.

I think this is a really good point. I didn't really find it all that believable that he got arrested. I wouldn't think the guy that he punched, considering it was his place and he had a bunch of underage drunk kids there, would call the police. Not to mention how much of a pussy this would make him look like in front of his guests.

I wasn't particularly impressed with this episode either, but I love the show so I have high hopes for the season.

I'm on the fence for this season. I'll give it 3 episodes and see where it goes.

My main issue with the show is it can't seem to make up its mind about its direction and focal points, although I realize much of this is due to need to cover a lot of characters and their storylines. But beyond that, the variation in the subject matter, pacing and emotional impact from episode to episode (and even sometimes within episodes) leaves me wondering if, in an attempt to attract a broad demographic of viewers, they might end up not getting the right mix to truly appeal to anyone.

Oh, and the background music is often irritating to the point of distraction.

Bump

I'm actually surprised no one talked about the episode last week. I was meh on episode 1 but episode 2 reminded me why I like Parenthood.

I'm loving Sarah's new love story. The new boyfriend just plays the enamored, excited new guy in a relationship so well, and somehow, after just two episodes, I'm really excited about that storyline.

The struggle Adam is having between his career and providing for his family was spot on too. That decision is going to lead to drama ldo.

The best character right now, IMO, is Kristina. I feel that Monica Potter has been killing it since the middle of the last season and she plays paranoid/caring mom so well. You could really feel her angst for her son and about her life in general.

Anyway, overall I just thought there was tons of awesome and it was a really good episode. Looking forward to tonight.

that ep left me smiling. mainly because of the drew + neighbor girl scene at the end. i could watch a show featuring his awkwardness with girls forever. i also really hope coffee girl is old enough in real life for me not to feel bad for wanting to marry her.

not a lot actually happened in my mind (cuz i always say the pressing charges angle as something that would be tied up nicely quick) and i don't ever see jasmine's relationship playing a huge role but i still love this show! oh, and it's a girl

I liked eps 2 and 3 a lot more than the first one, maybe I wasn't in the right mood or something. What's with the timeline this season though? iirc when it started the coffee chick wasn't really showing yet (I think?), and now she's suuuuper pregnant, while Kristina has basically been the same level of pregnant the whole time.

I thought the Julia-coffee chick scene last week was a little weird though - it was basically the sickest burn ever the way it played out. Coffee chick was like "thank you so much for saving my ass with my landlord, what can I do to help you, I'll do anything", Julia's like "would you consider letting me adopt your baby?", and coffee chick's face suddenly becomes filled with scorn and spite as she says "no" and storms off. One of the more devastating scenes in recent television history probably.

And then this week she's like "oh lolz I just wanted a closed adoption is all!!1" Come on.

the pregnancy is twice as fast when it's out of wedlock, everybody knows that.

are you really calling out coffee chick girl for saying "anything" then not wanting to give up her baby to somebody she sees everyday when she wants a closed adoption? anything doesn't mean anything, obv. if i make that offer and somebody is like, kill the president or suck my d-ck (i'm a dude and straight), i'd have the same reaction.

what i found ridic about their whole reaction (dating back as well) was the fact that Julia never casually mentions her and her husband want to adopt (i think):

"you probably want a closed adoption, otherwise I'd take that baby off your hands in no time" (jokingly)
"i know what you're going through. both sides of the adoption process are hard...my husband and i are going thru it now"

but whatever, i still love this show

Not at all - I'm saying the way she said no came off, like, really hateful and angry, and in a manner that didn't at all suggest that she was just saying no because she wanted a closed adoption. Do you remember the look on her face and how fast her expression changed?

i don't remember the exact face (probably because i was multitasking and only had audio at that moment)...but i still think it's realistic to be angry at being asked that question in the moment so any reaction is ok by me...and then realize later you gave the wrong impression and clarify it (as she did).

i see what you're saying though seeing as a "I would love to help but I want a closed adoption" reply would have maybe been more realistic (albeit not as good for the "dramatic" week long wait that tv offers)
