I just finished the season, and thought the show was great except for the final episode, which seemed to employ a lot of cliches at the series had been previously vigilant in avoiding.

I was entertained. B+ overall. Love Dogget. Man Captain Janeway got fat.

No one else noticed 2+2's own Nate Silver getting a shout-out?

I noticed. It was not worth commenting on.

Really good imo. probably comparable to Hosue of Cards in terms of Quality but in a total different tone.

The main character is really well acted, and haven't made up my mind if I ant to see her go into a downward spiral or keep it together.

It seems like its a trend of the whole thing to make all the inmates pretty redeemable. Healy and Pornstache easily come out looking the worst.

Can somebody explain how we got to the scene with the Buddhist and trackstar sticking **** in outlets? Like they shared that moment while decorating and then the next scene they are off shocking themselves. Not sure wtf is going on.

Think that scene was supposed to be them punishing themselves for the fight that they had earlier in the season that ended with Buddhist weed grower smacking the track girl. Some kind of self-administered electroshock therapy. Wouldn't be surprised if track girl is dead (they cut away before she stuck the wire in, and the next scene had the power go out/surge throughout the prison) and also wouldn't be shocked if they never came back to it at all. Neither of those two characters were in the finale episode in any way.

For such a nitty forum I can't believe how many free passes this show is getting. The following things are pretty lol: Two co-conspirators ending up in the same prison, especially when one of them was a major trafficker responsible for kilos of heroin and the other took a bag of money through an airport once. MURDERERS (plural!) ending up in an ultra minimum security prison. A drug overdose suicide being staged as a hanging suicide after the fact; also, a suicide in a prison without an autopsy or any kind of investigation at all. ANY of the plotlines involving a 2-3 month pregnant woman staging her pregnancy as coming from somewhere else. Huge freezer bags of drugs just being shipped in with lettuce. Jason Biggs' continued existence as a professional actor.

I'm sure there are more, but that's off the top of my head. I'm not trying to say the show is terrible, it clearly isn't. It's definitely average to above average. But with the nittery that goes on over Breaking Bad and shows like that, I can't believe people are giving this an A+ with no real criticisms. Plenty of lazy writing, imo.

Finished this yesterday and I loved it. The contrast between the prison drama on the inside and how it is all perceived on the outside was fantastic, imo. Love the way they do flashbacks for all the characters, giving you a better view of exactly what kind of crazy she's dealing with in there.

Blew through the whole season pretty quickly. This is a really incredible show and the first season ranks as one of the more impressive pieces of television I've ever watched tbh. There are just so many great, well-drawn characters and the way our perceptions of some of them change over the course of the season is really interesting (thinking especially of Crazy Eyes and Healey here).

Plus, I just find it kind of cool to see a show with such a wide range of dynamic female characters instead of the types of caricatures we see on most shows.

Suspension of disbelief; I don't nit on these kinds of things. The pregnancy thing I'm sure will blow up in multiple faces. Who are the murderers? I think we are supposed to assume that Ms. Claudette is in prison for the immigration thing and that she wasn't convicted of the murder (hence the reference to rumors). Is someone else supposed to be a murderer as well?

Tiffani (meth head Christian freak) also murderer.

I very much enjoyed this series but I do agree there were some weak spots pregnancy etc and Biggs is just seriously terrible. Still think it gets a B though, possibly I'm being generous as I love prison stuff. I think it needed more violence and pure bitchiness though.

The meth head almost certainly didn't kill anyone, the shotgun was loaded with birdshot and she said she was getting out in 2015

I thought she did kill the abortion clinic lady, but got a reduced sentence because the conservative group made her into a cause and got her a top-notch legal defense.

Anyway if I recall that dude's prison thread correctly (MTTR maybe?) then there were in fact murderers in minimum security prison.

That's almost certainly not murder; she probably pled to something like involuntary manslaughter.

Finally got around to watching the first episode and I can't say that I liked it. Maybe a C-. The biggest problem I had was that I really didn't like any of the characters. The premise isn't bad but I was really meh at the end. Might give it another episode.

Give it a couple. The characters start out pretty flat but get very fleshed out and complicated by the end of the 1st season

Yeah, that was definitely a "Hometown kid makes it big." moment for me. Made me smile.

I had been staying away from Netflix originals, assuming that they'd be nut low productions. After marathoning House of Cards last week, and OITNB this week, my assumptions have been destroyed. OITNB is a solid B, and I'd put HoC near the top tier shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, or GoT.

Really looking forward to more of both of these, and whatever other shows they put out.

I'm through four episodes and like it so far. I feel like it's at the point where it is about to either get really good or just fall apart. Some of the scenes are pretty annoyingly unrealistic (episode 2 or 3 when they are watching a movie and all hysterically laughing) but overall I think it is well done. I love the contrast of prison life to their lives on the outside.

Think the point of that scene is that even a crappy movie like Good Luck Chuck is incredible for them because they're stuck in prison. Not sure if that's realistic or not.
