LOST makes it to my best TV shows ever top 3 list, **** the haters, but the most amazing part is that even though there are shows that were clearly superiors in terms of quality, like Breaking Bad for exemple, I can't think of a single show that not only generated as much discussions as LOST but better yet will leave a more significant trace in people's memories.

And please, don't say The Wire.

(Not sure if this post makes sense as I'm not english native speaker. Which also might explain why I strongly believe that The Wire is crazily overrated, me not being american and all).

That's pretty much how I feel. I can say there have probably been "better" shows, but LOST is my favorite of all time, and I have never been more entertained by a TV show.

I think LOST was a lot of people's last show they got really into before netflix/hbogo and binge watching became a thing, and that left a lot of emotional impact on people (including me). Say what you want about how LOST ended but there were a ton of emotional payoffs for viewers that were literally 7 years+ in the making. I drove back home as a senior in college to watch the last episodes of LOST with my parents because we watched the first 2 seasons together when i was in high school. ****'s real.

i wouldn't have had the patience. I would have, unfortunately, lost a lot of interest midway s5

LOST message board forum was awesome. Down the Hatch Bar & Grill! LOST probably wasn't the first to do a lot of things, but it did a lot of things better than had been done before -- it was long-form risk-taking storytelling on network TV that wasn't at all episodic. Sure, now we have shows that generate something like that kind of buzz, but they wouldn't exist if LOST hadn't been such a phenomenon, and you still really only see them on cable. I admit I don't love where they took it after S3, as I had my own well-plotted narrative of what the show should be -- but that's the thing: so did everyone else, and that's a sublimely cool thing. There couldn't be such outrage at the ending if there hadn't been a deep connection to begin with. People were bound to be disappointed (in fact, I would argue that most people expected to be disappointed) for the simple reason that they all had such strong opinions about what the ending should be. It didn't help the ending, either, that the producers kept saying how satifying it would be, etc., much like how JJ treated the secrecy about Khan's character in Into Darkness.

Lost was pretty epic in it's day, although the Sopranos does pre-date it I think it helped lay the groundwork for other basic cable series.

most of the other great series that followed had a much more cohesive and planned end game though. Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Friday Night Lights (probably GOAT ending).

Lost I still think had no idea what where were going even mid-way through the series, they were more concerned with blowing minds than building something they could reconcile. That was more typical back then though, like X Files. it's why it remains a tier below the real great shows.

great takes, FNL might have had the best final season too

Just wanted to say before I binged it, lots of people say if there was 1 tv sho they could reset and watch for the first time again, it would be LOST. and I 100% agree. Im sure the first couple years LOST was fun as hell to tune in weekly.

Started a LOST rewatch recently and blew through the first 4 seasons, slowed down considerably during s5 but eventually powered through, now I'm in S6 and cant bring myself to watch new episodes.

First few seasons were just so unreal good though

yeah seasons 1-4 were amazing.

as I said earlier

1>3>4=2>5>6

Season 4 surprised the hell out of me. it was actually enjoyable. nothign will top season 1 LOST though, so much mystery, eeriness and intrigue

Lost was my bridge to the mainstream. Before it everything I watched was off beat, and after it I could engage around the water cooler.

Anyone watch Chronologically Lost or Lost Chrono? Thinking about a rewatch and one of those methods seemed intriguing.

does anyone ever feel anger towards the fact that every time someone asks me what my favorite shows of all time are I instinctively put lost in there and then i remember the last two seasons and take it out. I feel like no show captivated me like lost season 1-3 maybe even 1-4. I wish they just cancelled it instead of ruining it and making it plummet to a bottom tier show. ugh.

Don't open the thread then?

I don't think you need to remove it over the ending. I've recently rewatched most of it and its still so much fun.
