I don't think there's a thread for this show (and it's still two months away), but the trailer is out:

God damn, that looks awesome. It will have its haters but for fanboys like me who were all about Sports Night, all about Broadcast News, and all about A Few Good Men/Charlie Wilson's War/The Social Network/The American President, etc. this thing is going to kick ass.

I hope it doesn't go the way of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, but then again HBO has a pretty good track record unlike NBC.

Studio 60 being so self important and tone deaf makes me suspicious of this - but that trailer looked really great.

I loved Studio 60, and I have A LOT of faith in this one. I am a proud fanboy, but I think it'll be great based on content, not just based on Sorkin.

This just looks like Network mixed with Sports Night, but I loved both and trust Sorkin with pretty much anything so I'll be watching.

Me too, and it's made me wonder about all this untapped potential in Matthew Perry. There's a good actor lurking in there and we may never see it again.

True, but I don't care

Will probably be filled with a bunch of:

"You should do this."
"I want to do that."
"But you should really do this."
"I don't want to do this, I want to do that."
"Then you should do that. But you know what you should do first?"
"Before I do that?"
"Yeah."
"What?"
"You should do this."
"OK."

And, I don't care about that either.

Love everything Sorkin except S60, though Matthew Perry was my favorite part of it.

I think the problem for me was: Except for SN, all the other projects have a built-in gravity because they're about serious topics, i.e. politics / law. SN obv didn't have that, but they kept it light early and built slowly to the weightier stuff after I started caring.

I felt that S60 right from the get-go wanted me to think the (fictional) show and the people were super important for some reason, and I never got the reason. I never cared about them, but it desperately wanted me to.

Anyway, loved the Newsroom trailer. And lol "fact dump," so true.

I got into S60 before TWW, but I was huge fan of SN while it was airing. Same with the movies. I didn't want to mess TWW because all of the ads around that time for "ER" were "On a very special episode of ER." and that was every promo. They did the same with TWW promos, so I didn't bother.

A friend of mine had just got a new laptop and d/l'd the first HD video file they found, which happened to be S60. They loved it, so I decided to check it out. The reason I liked it so much is because I loved the dialogue and the performances/characters. Then the end of the 2nd ep floored me and that was all it took. I didn't dig too deep into it to be bothered with the things that most people don't like about the show on the first run-through. I did eventually, but I was already a fan so I went with it and liked every episode.

I got into TWW right before S60 ended, and I ain't been the same since

The opening of the trailer for The Newsroom reminds me a lot of the opening to Studio 60. Jeff Daniels blow up ~ Judd Hirsch meltdown.

I'm excited.

Sports Night is on Netflix WI, FYI. I've actually never seen it, so I am excited about this.

I loved Sports Night so much when it first aired, but I found it a bit dated and preachy when I tried to re-watch it. I think that may simply be that my tastes have changed and become a bit more jaded, and Sorkin's approach now turns me off a bit.

Regarding the pilot script:

Spoiler:
This is the first Sorkin script that I didn't fly through in one setting. I'm at page 34 of 86 and even I took a few breaks. It might be because I've read 100309 scripts this year and I'm a bit burnt on reading though. Should've read it before the trailer though, cause the trailer is awesome. Then I'm sure I'd have flown through it.

No spoiling regarding the plot or characters, just about the script itself.

You are not wrong, but I will never not find the "secular/non-secular" bit hilarious.
