Re: The New Girl - new fox show
I just haven't found the right drugs to enjoy this show and I want to.
Maybe they made the show to girly?
Also, breaking the TV - NOT cool.

Re: The New Girl - new fox show
thought it was so stupid how the guys just watch her struggle with the TV when she's leaving the house and only leave the car when it drops, did that make sense at all?

Re: The New Girl - new fox show
What's this about breaking a TV? I know hipsters hate television. Are they trying to be more enlightened? Also did the douche jar make an appearance? Did somebody say 'red meat' or 'bush'?

Re: The New Girl - new fox show
They kinda got hosed losing Wayans when Happy Endings got picked up, but his replacement wasn't the problem here. The only character I like is her hot friend. Everybody else is just a touch too annoying to enjoy.

Re: The New Girl - new fox show
Didn't like it. Show is similar to My Boys. Only this show has a weak supporting cast.

Re: The New Girl - new fox show
holy **** was the second episode beyond awful. i'm not even sure i'd consider watching again if they included deschanel doing naked gymnastics for 5 minutes a show.

Re: The New Girl - new fox show
I would really like to know the ages of the people who hated the second episode, just out of curiosity. I have a theory about it.
I personally felt the second episode was miles better than the Pilot. To me, the whole point of the episode was taking a situation where they were manipulating Zooey, to get what they want, and then ending up realizing it was the right thing to do.
The whole "top dog" thing was a total joke on Schmidt, and no one even really thinks like that there, except him, and he's completely obtuse to it. Again, it was just manipulating the worst character into thinking what he was doing was the "top dog" thing to do. I wasn't sure why they lost the douchebag jar, because having Schmidt act that way, with no repercussions was just weird.
I do think that Dids sums it up nicely, in that most of the characters are "just a touch too annoying to enjoy", but I enjoyed them tons more than the Pilot.

I'm in my 30s. I thought it was fine and am also surprised by all the criticism ITT. (To be fair, I got home sort of buzzed last night, so maybe I was less critical than I normally would be, but I don't think so.)
New Girl ratings built on Glee yet again, and won its time period. So it held viewers from last week. But there's a heavy male demo skew for this show, and as A18-34 male viewers tend to be the most fickle, based on the sample ITT, who knows next week the show could be in trouble...
Anyway, what is your theory?

Re: The New Girl - new fox show
My theory is that the Pilot skewed very heavily 25-35 (both genders, though slightly more male than female), and the second episode broadened its appeal significantly outside of the 25-35 demo (though it appears to have lost a lot of outside the 18-49 demo viewers). I'm almost 40, and the Pilot skewed too young, for me, and made me feel too old to watch the series. But, I thought it had a lot of potential (unlike some, I think the Wayans loss is a huge thing, and that they weren't using him properly in the Pilot), and decided to give it another shot. I laughed loudly several times in the second episode, and was impressed by how much they toned down the awkwardness of the series, without it completely losing its spirit.
For a network sitcom Pilot, I thought that New Girl was particularly rough, but when you see potential, especially with sitcoms, you should watch more than one episode. I don't know if anyone else will agree with me, but I thought Mr. Sunshine was borderline unwatchable in the first episode, and then it just clicked in the episode where he went on the date with his "nutjob" secretary's sister, which I think was the fourth episode. I was really disappointed that series was canceled, in favor of Happy Endings, though I never watched that show, so don't know if it's any good.
I think marketing execs would probably love to have the guys who hated the second episode on here in a room, to have them watch the Pilot and that episode, to see what they liked.
