Re: Modern Family - New ABC show

Weeds' Justin Kirk killed it this week. Hope he comes back for more now that he's Mitchell's boss. Guy needs to do more stuff that I watch.

Basketball stuff was kind of lame/cliched but I liked the other subplots.

"You know what we need to do right now?"
"Get pregnant!"
"I was gonna say go get ice cream."
"Okay we do yours first."

That whole scene was particularly funny as those two actresses apparently don't like each other at all.

Re: Modern Family - New ABC show

I think the majority of the scenes they are in together are particularly funny because they don't like each other at all.

Also, does it ever bother anyone else that Mitchell and Cam never kiss? Every other couple does and I don't think they have once. Seems kind of unrealistic. Obviously it's a "family show" and homosexuals aren't real people...but still.

Yeah this too I always get this awkward feeling when they hug all happy lovey. I give them slack on it because it's the only part of the relationship they really haven't embraced, and it's still an 8pm show.

Just started watching and went through like five episodes...great show to watch with the gf and just laugh.

Cam is such a great character and his delivery is fantastic.

let's commit to this!!!

this ep fell short for me compared to the MF standard, however, it was still funny. they had such a good run in the middle of the season where each episode was just so awesomely crafted with great endings and this one just felt like a standard sitcom. but at least it's a funny standard sitcom

and little (no?) haley was no fun.

This guy strapped a camcorder to a toy truck so he could investigate the space under his house. He almost broke his back trying to climb on top of a car to get an old pair of sunglasses. He's a moron.

If anything, the show is making fun of the insipid hype over the iPad. When Phil says "I love you" to the iPad and Claire thinks he's talking to her and Phil has to cover really quickly, it's a funny moment because we recognize the irony in loving a glorified Kindle more than your spouse. How come nobody thinks the entire series is an advertisement for Korean babies? Oh, because Korean babies aren't a brand name product.

I do really find it mind-boggling that people consider the episode an advertisement for Apple. Sure, Jobs has shares in Disney and Apple got a lot of free publicity by donating the product for the show, but just like Cast Away wasn't remotely an ad for FedEx (Zemeckis made it a point to publicize that the studio never got a dime from FedEx; it was merely a way to add authenticity to the story instead of making up some fake postage company like U-Ship or whatever), Modern Family was just drawing from something current in order to make their typically hilarious observations.
Good thing any publicity is good publicity. It's still a happy coincidence that this is major brand exposure on a major network, though, huh.
