They squandered the whole season. Why wasn't the competing study and Ethan brought into the season much earlier? The Provost was also absent all season then shows back up in the finale. Those were two of the best characters.

Instead they spent all that time with Masters and Johnson in the hotel room, Masters whining, the brother, Libby and the Blacks, Austin and the fat lady, Sarah Silverman. All of that was a waste. Not nearly as compelling as Season 1.

The lack of provost is not their fault, Beau Bridges (along with 'wife' Alison Janney) are busy getting paid on crappy network sitcoms.

I agree that Season 2 was a drop-off from Season 1. Just not the same quality of storytelling.

wow, that was the finale? about 2/3 of it was so boring i was dying to fast forward though it, but the other 1/3 of it was quite good and i didn't want to miss the good parts.

dr masters is ****ed up. that can make a good character, but his character is just ok. virginia is a boring character imo. i liked the bits with the impotent couple. lester is pretty good.

I agree, I have always found Masters and Johnson pretty meh. The other characters are good. I am not at all invested in M&J's relationship.

Lizzy Caplan gave one of the best performances I think I've ever seen in the finale. The whole thing with her kids was fantastic.

I really hated the very beginning and very end, where Masters and Johnson are finishing each other's sentences. It felt unnatural and out of character and I just hated it. But everything else was great.

Well, except for that whole plyometric **** with the good looking doc and the fat lady. Wtf was that? All season we had to spend time on that **** and it was completely awful and useless

Everything they spent time on was necessary, but they took the longest possible route with each one. We didn't need all of those journeys. Just the destinations. A scene or 2, or a few lines of dialogue was all it would've taken.

Just finished S2, and I still think its an elite show, as in top 5-7 show currently on television. I likes S1 a bit more and I realized in the finale its because S1 had better supporting performances. The base performances of Masters and Johnson are still superb. Their relationship was equal, if not superior to season one. Allison Janney and her husband were just much better in supporting roles than many of the attempted storylines from S2. Mrs Masters did well in her role, but she just doesn't quite carry the acting ability that we lost by losing Janney.

I quit on season 2 a little more than halfway thru, wasn't really feeling it like season 1. I'm kinda up on the air on this now, gonna try and finish season 2 I guess. Still in love with sweet Lizzy Caplan.

Its Showtime, so I expected a drop in quality. And of about the level that it was. I'm in this show for the duration, I'm pretty sure. They're at least trying to be interesting, even when its not that much.

Masters of Sex did experience a drop in quality last season, but I'd still say it was a top 10ish drama last year. I'm likely in until the show ends.

Anyone else still watching this? Looks like AVClub isn't covering it anymore after this week, and I'm considering dropping it as well. Its getting too.... Showtime'd. If it gets back to being good, I'll jump back in, but its not doing it for me. Even Lizzy's gorgeous, sexy self isn't enough.

Anyone still watching this? It went from having an elite first season, to having a decent second season, but this third is quickly falling off a cliff imo. Writing doesn't seem as crisp, storylines seem more contrived, and it lacks that unique view into society that it handled so well in S1 and even S2. I don't know if it was pressure from the network or just the abnormal time advancement, but something isn't quite working. Its still watchable, but only just barely imo.
