Im mostly with you. My favorite parts of the season were anything with azizs parents, the asian father, and the tinder episode. felt like last season had more stuff like that instead of focusing on an obvious unrequited love storyline.

I rewatched season 1 not long ago and I didn't feel a big difference with season 2.
The big difference is between ansari stand up and that TV show imo.
About his parents. His mother didn't want to come back at all which explain why they are less present.

Just saw the first one...very good...none of you got it was an homage to The Bicycle Thief?

the Italian girl in this episode is gorgeous.

Yah I really liked her, too bad she wasn't in any of the other episodes.

I'm 9/10 through but I think this season is for sure better than s1, which I enjoyed but found overrated and uneven. Could understand people finding s2 uneven since they are trying a lot of different things out, but I've enjoyed all of it.

7 episodes in, I've liked everything but ep6. My biggest complaint about s1 was that Aziz is taking his Louie fandom a little too far and this is another example of that. No need to try to force Louie elements into this show. Aziz is a very sharp commentator of what it's like to be a ~30yo single in a big city in 2017, but I don't see any need for surrealism here.

If you liked the Tinder ep def check out his book, the entire plot of the episode is basically lines from that.

So far I find s1=s2, higher highs and lower lows maybe? Solid show either way. My favorite moment so far was the 3-minute shot of him in the back of the car with Soft Cell playing after realizing he'll never be with Francesca. That actress is super hot btw.

You lied to me! She IS in more episodes! I'm quite happy. She is absolutely charming.

Finished the season. Episode 9 was my favorite. Would rate the season like 9/10. As mentioned above, the doorman/deaf couple/cab driver episode was really pointless and a failed attempt to channel his inner Louie. Other than that, no major complaints.

While I loved the actress who played Francesca and her character lit up the screen whenever she popped up, I'm starting to think that maybe this season would've been better if it focused more on the single/dating like and less on this paper-thin love story. If the actress wasn't so amazing I would almost certainly feel that way at least.

The cinematography was unexpectedly great, the whole season was beautifully shot. And as pointed out by basically everyone, the music choices and how they were used were top notch.

The scenes in ep 9 (and some of the earlier episodes) when Aziz was trying to be a perfect gentleman yet find a way to approach his impossible love were really well done and the emotions felt very real to me (despite Francesca's character being so thinly written). I felt so awkward that I almost didn't want to keep watching because ****, have we all not been there. Memorable stuff.

Overall it's been a good ride and I'm a little sad that this was apparently the show's last season (or at least that's what Aziz said in an interview).

I'm seriously thinking of chucking everything, going to Italy - probably somewhere in Tuscany, becoming an apprentice pasta maker, and finding a Francesca.

That last part is critical to my plan.

Fun fact: I was rewatching Parks&Rec yesterday and there's an episode on S3 where Aziz' character is complaining about missing an episode of a TV show called Cupcake Wars.

This was a fantastic season. With a lot of others who didn't like episode 6, and while I feel it was completely unnecessary, the same can be said about Thanksgiving, which was one of the strongest episodes.

The dating episode and dinner party were also great.

Thanksgiving was excellent, one of the best episodes of TV this year. Should be up for a ton of Emmys.

Okay, the actress who plays Francesca is the most beautiful woman alive.

Okay, finished the series. Really liked it. Especially how there were dome thru-lines in the narrative (like the romance, obviously), while at the same time, each episode was also self-contained. Really interesting.

Incredibly well-acted.

One thought to ponder:

Spoiler:
Is the last shot of Francesca in bed with Dev supposed to be her staying in NY, or is she just thinking of the night she slept over?

dom,

"incredibly well acted."

So many characters are poorly acted I just assumed it was on purpose. Anytime Dev talks to anybody (Italian Chunk, his gay friend, the Indian friend, his Cousin) it seems like their taking turns reading lines rather than acting. Conversely, I find it endearing with the parents. They're favorite characters in the show by a large margin.

I still like the show very much, however. It's charming, and has engaging story lines. Aziz is also a solid director.

I'm on the fence between Aziz is an horrible actor or a genius. Anyway it works super well.

About people complaining about filler episodes. I feel they work very well in the binge watching model by breaking the rhythm of of the season. I don't know if it's on purpose but that's goat tv on a wire or breaking bad lvl. I didn't binge any TV show till 4am for a long while and I'm rewatching one week later.

Aziz is a better actor than Seinfeld but not as good as Louie. He's pretty bad.

Episode 6 was Aziz/Yang pushing the envelope, trying to make something original. I'm not sure it quite landed for me but it was decent. Master Of None tried half an episode in 1950s India, an episode in black & white and mostly in Italian, an episode which was just Dev/Rachel on a bunch of different mornings, an episode which was multiple interlaced first dates and half an episode in ASL. That's really ballsy & the success rate is impressively high.

The ending was deliberately ambiguous.
