TV SERIES

Interesting.

The setting is 1962. Japan (West) and Germany (East) each own a third of the USA...there is a neutral zone in between the two WWII victors.

Cold War relationship between the two nuclear powers. Serious concerns because the old Adolf Hitler is on the verge of dying. Goering, Himmler, and a third guy (more insane than the others including the Fuhrer) are vying for the soon to be empty leadership spot.

Again, interesting.

I'm liking it a lot. Has a real nice gritty look to it, like a 50s movie. Makes one greater appreciate the sacrifices previous generations made imo.

Based on just the mention of Rommel in ep 2 I think there is quite good chance he ends up fuhrer.

As i am from a country that unfortunately lost WW2, that show should make me happy, right? Watched the trailer and have high expectations. Around weeks before today imdb showed that this show will have 2 ep this year and will air in 2016 and i am like wtf, its this a joke or what.

You can watch it if you take the free month amazon prime offer and then use VPN to chance your location to UK, DE or US (depending which site you want use). I have watched 7 episodes so far, all while on Hola, free VPN.

For those of you who think the first episodes are quite weak, I agree. Episode 6 was the best so far, 7 was also good.

I watched 4 episodes and it's pretty uneven so far. There's an absolutely massive unexplained plothole that wastes a huge chunk of time, it just seems like they wanted to spin their wheels by creating unnecessary drama

Spoiler:

Why they don't just kill the Marshal? Blake has several opportunities, so does the resistance guy. Blake reveals a critical secret to him in public rather than just shooting him, then there's that whole elaborate con where Juliana could've easily shot him too instead of trying to trick him into thinking she's dead.

Yeah it's pretty fun but +1 to what you've said. What bugs me even more is that lazy way of writing regarding story-moving coincidences. (people losing stuff, other people randomly find it and draw the right conclusions straight away, and in EP 7 or so people meeting randomly who haven't seen each other for 15 years, right when it's convenient for the story)

Yeah that's annoying. Lot of the characters act like they've read the script.

It's also oddly cheap. It looks great 90% of the time, but there's weird little outliers like some of the CGI and the occasional use of stock footage for establishing shots. Stock footage!

I'm about to start episode 5, but if it doesn't start to finally go somewhere I'm unlikely to bother with episode 6.

I'm up to episode 7. The first 5 episodes were fine although the LOL coincidences in every episode were off putting. I was bored to tears for episodes 6 and 7. Show fell off a cliff.

Up through 7, and I thought 6 was very strong but 7 wasted that momentum. And the Small Small World of it all mixed with the lack of an overall plot is trying my patience.

In most shows by 70% of the way through the season there's some idea of what goals our heroes are driving towards and what obstacles lay in their path. Instead pretty much every character is bumbling along trying to get themselves killed in service of a goal that they don't understand, much less the audience.

I constantly have to think back to the book, which I read but didn't like that much, to figure out what's going on. If I was just a going in cold viewer, I think I'd be pretty lost by the almost mystical reverence everyone puts on the films.

Ep 6. was probably the best episode, so if you didn't like that one you probably should drop the show altogether. It is also worth noting this will be multiple seasons, so not everything will be answered by episode 10.

Just finished episode 10 and I'm now more confused than ever. Can someone explain to me in dummies terms wtf just happened?

Spoiler:
The trade minister naps in a park bench and wakes up in an alternate reality? What's the significance of Julia's necklace that they keep going back to it? Does it open a time portal? Wtf just happened?

Three episodes in and I'm not feeling what the show is even meant to be. The resistance is terrible, it feels like it's Fringe without any of the charm or production quality of Fringe and it has yet to say anything.

Ill give it a couple more but I have no idea if it's worth doing. It doesn't seem like it's going to improve and it doesn't even feel like a good show hidden by it missing the mark slightly.

My biggest problem is the existence of the films completely removes the stakes of the show itself, with the early reveal stunting the series as a whole. People are just shuttling around these films that seem to make people instantly believe their own universe is fake and it should have gone another way, which is weird, but significantly the show moves everything else to the back focusing on the power of these films which makes it a lot harder to buy into the concept.

Maybe Quinn, Mallory and Rembrandt will slide into the show in the season finale and it'll get cool, but I figure the chances of that are super low.

I quit on it 3 in. Didn't seem like they had a lot going except the high concept premise and the cool look of decaying Americana in the late 50s.

I haven't read the books, so this is just speculation:

Spoiler:

Hitler did say the fate of the world is in the hands of very few men. He probably means it literally. Perhaps he was also able to travel between realities and avoid the mistakes he made in our reality. The films are real films from other realities, there is also obviously more alternative timelines than just our world and the world in tMitHC since in one film Stalin was alive in 1954 while he died in 1953.

Funnily enough there was no resistance in the books. I guess you need "heroes" for the show.

Yeah this makes sense. I hope this show doesn't go the path LOST did and ruined a great show. Not sure how I feel about this alternate reality plot twist, too much deux ex machina for me tbh.
