He tops both of those eventually..... Well kinda....

Goes to show, be a writer and an actor at the same time.

Didn't have much expectations and begrudgingly watched the first ep last night with nothing else on... binged the first four wayyy past my bedtime and can't wait to watch the rest. I really love this show, based on the first four it's my favourite new show since Narcos.

Also I have a raging crush on Gillian Jacobs' character.

Lol, why? Her character is awful. She's hot tho

Finished the show. There were some very funny moments along the way, but the cringe-factor was almost unbearable at times.

I like my girls messy.

Just finished it. I enjoyed it so much. I feel like it had the kind of flaws that normally irritate me but for whatever reason didn't irritate me in this case at all. Really really great show.

I will add, though, that I think there's a decent chance it might go downhill, I have no idea where they are going to take it from here and a lot of the options sort of suck. But either way, that was the most enjoyable thing I've seen on tv in a long time.

i liked it a lot. it has stuck with me.

everything to do with music in this show was excellent: the soundtrack, the carlito's way stuff, jet, blister in the sun. all super enjoyable.

She wasn't quite as awful in the early episodes.

First, how in the world can Judd Apatow lead the charge against Bill Cosby but then turn around and give a role to Andy Dick? If Hollywood had a lifetime achievement award for doing awful things to women it would be named after Bill Cosby but Andy Dick would certainly win one. Check out his wikipedia if you don't already know. Yikes.

As for the show, I thought it started off decent but by the end Mickey had so few redeeming qualities that it felt incredibly forced to have Gus want even the slightest thing to do with her. In the real world when a person you've been briefly dating shows up uninvited at your job and makes a huge scene, they aren't in any subsequent seasons of your life. They just pushed her character so far out that getting them back together so easily was incredibly lazy. All of which is a shame because the rest of the world they've built is delightful. It just feels like season 2 would be infinitely better if they wrote Mickey out of it entirely.

Also, you can really see which of the two main characters had a hand in creating the show.
Hint: It is the one who is constantly getting women way out of his league.

this clearly isn't true, you are just applying your own logic to the rest of the world. there are millions of dysfunctional people and dysfunctional relationships out there. for example, making a huge scene at the workplace is pretty minor compared to the number of people in physically abusive relationships.

i agree somewhat, but all they did was kiss. it's not like they are going to be in a lovey-dovey relationship that's going swimmingly for the entirety of S2.

your point about andy dick does have some merit - here's a couple of articles that argue the same:

To compare Cosby and Dick is waaay out there. I get that they both get the label 'sexual offender'. But degree matters. Should Hugh Grant never work again? I thought the Dick episode was great, and his history gave it much more impact.

Your point is clearly correct, but I still think it makes for lousy TV.
I have a hard time getting invested when the problems of the protagonist can be solved via simple common sense.

dunno how/why I sort of like this show as I can't stand either of the lead characters.

just absolutely awful/annoying...are they supposed to be so unlikeable?

also how pathetic do u have to be to keep dating someone like the lead girl? I don't see one redeeming quality of her as a gf, and it's not like she's neutral she's actively terrible.

dunno I never would've found out cuz after the magic castle and the work scene I never would've seen her again.

P-S-Y-C-H-O.

and jfc talk about needy, clingy and co-dependent.

ofc he's an annoying obnoxious douchebag so I guess they're perfect for each other.

I think Rust comes off as very likable as the season goes on. He's great.

She sucks--but she's supposed to.

I don't know which one of them I disliked more. She was def crazy, but at least she's Gillian Jacobs-level hot.

Gus was annoying, fairly unlikable, and kinda just desperate for a relationship, which he somehow had a Woody Allen-like ability to pull way above his own level. He wasn't particularly talented, intelligent, or a diamond in a rough that just needed to be polished. He was even a bit crazy in his own right.

All that said, I did like the show more than I disliked it.

huh, wonder how that happened

Spoiler:
Rust stars as Gus in Judd Apatow's 2016 series Love. He also co-created the show, co-wrote some episodes, and serves as executive producer.

Man you Americans must be dating some serious boring prudes, I think the comments on Mickey's character are massively hyperboled. She has some issues but calling her crazy or psycho seems absurd to me.

Fair point.

I will also say that I went out for ~a year with a girl who tried to jump out of a fifth storey window on our first date, so maybe my tastes are a bit different from most. But still I don't see what she did that was superrr crazy or anything?
