Re: Louie - Season 3

This episode is pretty much everything I've come to expect from a Louie episode. You got your standup opening and then you got your random skits. The skits as usual were hit or miss, I'm always either laughing out loud at the absurdity of it all, or feeling semi-depressed because it's a little too real.

Not Louie's best, but I've noticed the best episodes are always scattered about the middle of each season. So if this is how it starts, then I'm looking forward to seeing more

Also, am I the only one who thinks Louie looks like he gained quite a bit of weight?

I didn't notice the weight gain, but wasn't really looking for it either and I'm not real observant about stuff like that. Maybe we'll see lots of ice cream eating this season as Louie's way of acknowledging the issue?

Well Louie has always portrayed himself as having deeply unhealthy habits. I don't really think he would have to address it, since him gaining weight is pretty consistent with being the glutton that he has always held himself out as.

Re: Louie - Season 3

Was drunk and nodding off while watching the other night, was underwhelmed. Gave it another try sober, liked it quite a bit. Definitely gotta be in the right mood for Louie's awkward relationship banter with the little girl from Field of Dreams. Wife reveal was WTF with the towheaded kids from a hispanic redhead and a black woman? Love that Louie could be just trolling with that and knowing him could have a different actress play the ex next time she's on screen. He definitely did that with the changing views of his mother. And he brags about how he doesn't even have the same little girls play his kids from episode to episode. The sign stuff was the most obvious in your face funny part and it killed.

Louie isn't a sitcom. It's a weekly 22 minute independent film that Louie occasionally inserts jokes into. The haters need to stop trying to direct it and just enjoy the ride, where ever he takes us.

Wait, he has different kids? You sure?

And while it's not a sitcom, it doesn't make this past ep any good.

Yep, I'm pretty sure it was in an interview on O&A. When there were scheduling conflicts he just swapped in a different kid actor and bragged about how nobody even noticed. Everybody on the show is disposable except him, that's the way he wants it. After his break playing Louie's brother, Bobby Kelly said he had no job security and that Louie would probably turn his character into a sister the next season. How many sisters does he have anyway? Dude isn't making a sitcom, doesn't seem to give a f about continuity.

And I say that again just because I think a ton of people are confused on what they are digesting each week and bring some conventional sitcom expectations into the mix while watching. Not because I think "not a sitcom == quality" or anything silly like that.

I kept hearing this ex-wife talk and assumed it was another episode coming up or something, didn't piece it together that the chick he called after the accident was his ex-wife. Guess I wasn't really paying close attention, shame on me.

Yeah, he kinda called her with the express purpose of telling her he couldn't pick the kids up, that should have been a clue.

It's the third season. Everyone understands that by now. That doesn't make the show above criticism.

Pretty sure Pamela Adlon is safe if she's ever on the show again since she's an executive producer

Now that's more like it. I fear I've exposed myself to too much of Louie's psyche, but a lot of his plots are elaborate setups, and I think this one more than most. Melissa Leo was also great.

Also, the stupid ratings warnings are spoiling things now.

I liked how everything brought home that even the unpleasant can be satisfying. Being knocked out of your routine, like by that gorilla joke which has no real punchline, or by a woman who calls you a f*g so you'll go down on her, often beats the alternative.
