Re: Justified: Season 3
I said the same thing to my wife when that scene ended. Love me some Jim Beaver.
Oh, and back on the gun issue, you guys aren't wrong, I guess. It does seem a little too foolish, unless there's something we don't know yet (could he set it up as a false plant, and then lead someone right to it?). But, check out the very next scene when he's walking to the office the next morning. I thought his eyes looked glassy and he was walking a little weird. Believable or not, I think we're supposed to be picking up that he's sleep deprived and over-stressed, and it's making him a little more erratic than usual.
I may be wrong. Happens several times a day.

Reason: Raylan's off.

Shane, a cop...I hated.
Boyd, a criminal...I like. {sigh}

He was paying Boyd for protection, thinking Ava was gonna shoot him was far from his mind.

Didn't he come in all cautious with a gun drawn on her? I might be mis-remembering, but I don't think it was too far from his mind.

I'm a huge Elmore Leonard fan and have probably read close to 90% of his output...which is a lot.
Raylan was a mess.
It's like two different books. There is quite a lot of similarities between the show's plot points and some of the book's - kidney theft, etc. - but it doesn't really fit in the Justified world completely. There's also a big poker subplot - that's the 2nd part of the book - and even a master like Leonard gets poker hands and scenes wrong.
Seriously, though...I was quite disappointed.

He came in cautious, but let his guard down once Ava brought in Ellie May tied up. She put on a pretty good show imo. Hard to say what he could have done differently, other than having some back-up, which may not be so welcome in Boyd's place.

Re: Justified: Season 3
what??? Raylan has nothing to do with the events of this season. It's another story. And I didn't spoil anything. I mean, if there does happen to be a poker scene this season, gee, sorry, my bad.

Don't think Dom's post is that bad, but probably a good idea to keep that stuff in spoilers just to be safe.

Re: Justified: Season 3
Seriously, the book has little to do with the series. It's like an alternate universe thing. The show has used circumstances from the book - like last weeks 3 chicks robbing a bank - but in the book they are completely other characters that are not in the show.
There are no spoilers in the book.
