here is what happened. i admit i am quite often wrong about many things. just my opinion.

vinny was actually moping around. first because of jet lag. and then that mixed with missing whatever his life was before inescapable fame.

he starts to express these feelings. the producers of the show see the unit, rider, gianni interactions with the group after italy. they see all the better possible storylines. they dont have to pay those three almost any money at all.

they tell vinny he can leave and still get paid for the remainder of the season. an easy decision for vinny at that point. and an instantly better and revived show with better characters.

No way. Vinny's coming back in an episode or two.

infinitely more likely than your story (and i'm not saying this even happened either), is they saw him moping and told him to act out this storyline, because they 1) are ******s who think people like this stuff, just like the sam and ron stuff, or, 2) they are geniuses because there are actually people out there who enjoy the ME AND RAWN crap and this.
