Great show for drinking games.

1. Drink every time Jack says "Damn it."
2. Drink on every moal reveal.
3. Drink when Jack does something unusual on his phone.
4. Drink when an accent appears.

as keifer has aged he snorts more and more. in season 1 he snorted like once or twice an episode. by season 8 it was about 15 times an episode. in his new show touch he just does it pretty much constantly

24 was awesome but it was tilting after a couple of seasons since CTU did not allow Jack Bauer to do whatever the f*** he wanted.

Yeah, I also thought he built up enough goodwill after never being wrong and always saving the day for everyone to essentially give him carte blanche. Haters gonna hate I suppose.

The Jack Bauer "Damn it!" is just a classic line. So much anger and frustration in his voice.

It's obviously ridiculous that people keep questioning Jack's motives or character after saving the world so many times, but that's part of the fun of the show.

CTU must have also set a record for number of moles. It's such an easy organization to infiltrate.

Why hasn't someone made an epic 2 hour recap of the last eight seasons yet. So much stuff to recap

I think it's testament to the show's greatness that people look back fondly on those obvious flaws in its logic and chuckle about them, rather than some other shows where the flaws really count against the show's credibility. 24 did a great job of creating a world where the events of each particular season were just about independent enough from the previous ones that people would largely forget that they saw the same thing so many times.

I mean, how often did we see the following plots:

- Random bystander gets caught up in the chaos and becomes Jack's only way to fix the situation/catch the bad guy
- CTU gets somehow infiltrated/bombed/destroyed/gas attacked
- Jack has to deliver some kind of vital piece of computer equipment within a few hours or something catastrophic happens
- ****ing Kim does something stupid and gets in the way
- Someone in charge of CTU has a personal situation that results in them getting fired
- Jack has to make a difficult decision between the life of an innocent person and the mission
- "If you can't get us proof of X by time Y, Jack, we're gonna be at war with country Z"
- Turns out the bad guy from the beginning of the season is actually working for another guy, who's working for another guy, who's secretly working for the first guy, who's working for someone inside the government

...and yet still, it was such an enjoyable show.

Good post.

No matter how silly things got when people told me certain seasons sucked I still enjoyed Jack B kicking ass. It's just a fun show to watch.

Yeah, this one was often used in conjunction with some of the other ones if I remember rightly.

I also forgot "random character appearing in only a few episodes heroically sacrifices himself/herself to save a bunch of other people, only for everyone to subsequently forget they ever existed".

Case in point - I bet even a lot of hardcore 24 fans would forget Sean Astin was ever on the show.

I think Astin was cast specifically to die dramatically.

You forgot moles. There was always a mole.

Haha yeah, the mole thing was the obvious one. I think I was going to put that at the end of the list but forgot.

What amuses me about that if if you listen to Howard Gordon talk about it, he says they used to write in random new characters with no idea of what their role would be later on, and when it got to the point where they needed a mole, they would basically just pick a character who would make some kind of sense as the mole, and then make up some motivation for them. There were very rarely any characters added to the show who were always going to end up being moles.

Let us not forget Astin prevented CTU from walking into an ambush when they were raiding that airport (I think) Jack was in captivity and told everyone in CTU on the phone 3 times he was in a FLANK TWO position. No one realized that it was an outdated distress signal except for Astin - who was able to audible the entry point literally when the strike team literally had their finger over the detonate button - and all the terrorists got shot in the back. An absolutely heroic save

I did find it annoying that when you found out they were a mole their character traits completely changed. I forget the name of the blonde chick, but she acted completely different before the audience knew she was a mole compared to after. To be fair she still maintained her terrible acting.

I also love how in this scene it took them like 45 minutes to set the entry point and the explosives the first time, then after moving everybody after getting the FLANK TWO warning from Jack, it takes them like 3 minutes to set up all the same stuff.

can't really see it as a good thing or a bad thing. you knew that some old characters would be coming back, they aren't gonna start from scratch.

here is my hunch though: one of them will be more than they seem!

london sounds good to me. really looking forward to this.

the big question is whether I watch week by week, or wait until it's all done and watch it all in 1 day.

back when it was on TV, i would wait until the first 4 episodes were done (sometimes only took 2 days IIRC) and watch the first 4. then i'd wait till all 24 were done and watch them all over 1 or 2 days.

i wonder if they'll do the same thing in this new season where the first few episodes are relatievely self-contained ... and most of the stuff wraps up after 4 epsidoes and then just gives you a little glimpse of what's to come.

but i think with a 12 episode season.... it'll probably be less than a 3 month wait... and you could finish the whole season in less than 10 hours. perfect for a marathon. just gotta see if i can hold my load and not get spoilered. gonna be way tougher these days with the internet the way it is now.
