Re: Idiotic Jeopardy wagers (from tonight/TLDR)

When Watson gets the text file of the questions sent to him, do you think it comes all at once or word by word as Alex reads it? I would think its the former but wouldn't this provide an unfair advantage to Watson as the humans have to take some time (albeit only a couple seconds) to read the whole question and process it?

Ah, yeah... just got to that part. I wonder if the conditions were "no explanation-required categories" or simply "none that we haven't specifically prepared for".

The humans have the unfair advantage that they natively understand natural language.

Yeah, I was thinking about this too but it must be the former. Good human players read the text faster than Alex says it anyway.

Why can't they add voice recognition software to the computer AI?

The double jeopardy wager and alex's reaction were both hilarious.

I think watsons DJ and FJ show that it is not very good with cities. It was only 30% sure of DJ, and it missed FJ.

Spoiler:

I'm shocked Watson had that much trouble with that. "U.S. Cities" -i wouldn't be surprised if it listed a wrong US city, but a canadian one is pretty lol

Also, how did it come up with $947 wager haha

I missed the fact that his answer wasn't even a US city, lol.

That FJ seems like a very difficult one for a computer. Not only does it have to rank all the airports by size, then it has to compare them to WW2 heroes and WW2 battles.
