Looks like the all star schedule has been posted:

https://www.jeopardy.com/contestant-...games#schedule

Good ideas that I like:
- every match is a 2 game total point affair
- wild card match to determine the 3rd finals spot
- Ken's team on different side of bracket as Brad's team

Terrible idea:
- stretching out (game 1) SJ to an entire episode, presumably padding with more time for contestant interviews. Ok for Watson, not for this.

Seriously? You didn't find Alex Jacob vs Brad Rutter enjoyable?

They're 2/3 of my fantasy team, so I have $15,000 after day 1.

I agree with the sentiment, but there’s just no other viable option for a network TV show that needs to produce ~20min episodes for the time slot. If they shot it for Netflix, they could have easily made 25-30min full episodes.

Alex can’t just say “hello everyone, we have a pretty exciting new format going but unfortunately I don’t have time to explain it. If you want to learn more, go to jeopardy.com”.

Anyone have thoughts about putting your best player / fastest guy on the buzzer in the first round? Slowest person for FJ should be an obvious call.

I'd rather just see a standard tournament format with these players, but I guess they did that a few years ago and want to try something different from the inevitable Ken vs Brad show again.

Seems like a leak to not put your best player in the Double Jeopardy round, unless there's some rule or agreement that they'll switch roles in later games. It would kind of suck to show up for a tournament like this and only get to play Final Jeopardy a couple times.

They actually played yesterday?
I DVRd it, and assumed it was 30 mins of interviews and pre-game...

Alex Jacob said on Twitter that no player can play the same round in both games.

Travelling all next week. May or may not bother watching off the eve.

How are they going to stretch out DJ and FJ to a full episode? Seems like a lot of filler. I was hoping there would be more than one board for each SJ and DJ.

+1 this makes sense. Even if they cut ~2-3 minutes of the filler, they're not going to use that time to make, say, an extra half board or ~1/4 of a new game.

Presumably that's why we saw Brad and AlexJ playing SJ for game 1; pretty likely they'll play DJ for game 2.

Yeah, that makes sense if they're just saving them for DJ next time.

If they stick in a standard SJ-like interview break into DJ which seems logical since these will be different players than SJ, then they stretch out the FJ part because they have to talk about the 3 people who haven't been on yet, all they really need is about 5 or 6 minutes of recap at the beginning to fill the time.

That makes for an interesting decision in the wild card round. Are you going with your worst possible setup in order to have your best one available for a potential final or are you going all-in now to increase your chance of making the final?

You almost have to go weaker in the first game. Then you have the stronger lineup for the final or the elimination game. Sounds like if you win the elimination game you can keep the lineup for the final.

Imagine being the last one of the 12 players picked in the player draft, then being clearly identified as the weak link on your team so that you're relegated to only playing Final Jeopardy, then your team having so little faith in you that they decide to take their chances at possibly having to come back from a massive deficit against Brad Rutter in DJ rather than let you bet even a dollar on the one clue you get to play.

It’s like these all star game drafts in the NBA and NHL- even at the highest levels of achievement there is a hierarchy.

The #12 best overall player can play an important role on a championship team.

Compare that to men’s tennis. the #12 player doesn’t have but a tiny chance to win a grand slam.

Somebody’s gotta be last.

Given the wild card structure (3 of 4 non winners advance to WC), and given Team Buzzy’s/AJ’s dominance over Team Colby, I don’t hate them (essentially) locking up a WC spot, if the alternative is having to bet a ****ton against the most winningest game show player of all time.

AJ definitely held his own over Brad though (he’d be ahead in SJ if not for the DD).

Of course, as impressive as Brad has been over the years, running like god in a high variance game surely helps — he even ran hot in the draft: Brad’s “weakest” teammate is a 19-game champ (and both Larissa & Madden work professionally for quiz/trivia companies).

The zero FJ bet seems really bad to me. Yeah it just about locks up a wildcard, but three of the four losers get in the wildcard match while only the winners go straight to the final.

A bet of like 10k still puts them in good wildcard position even if you miss FJ, but gives them a much better chance of winning even if Brad's team bets big. Team Colby's best possible day one score was 12,800, so Team Buzzy could afford to risk some to increase their chance of going straight to the finals.

kinda weird, but friday's episode was available in some places online at 10pm EST on thursday. same thing the day before too. i haven't been watching in a while so this may be the new normal.

just a reminder to plz hold your comments until 6pm EST - especially during a tournament where watching spoiler free is even more important.

i'm enjoying it so far and am much more invested than i thought i'd be. apparently arthur chu didn't return calls to show up, i know he's gone pretty weird since his episodes aired (was always pretty weird?), but passing up over $50k EV is pretty sick! anyone know what 2nd and 3rd pay in the final? $1m/3 is a pretty big chunk of change!

not a spoiler:

were the envelopes with the picks randomly assigned? i assume so?

i know there's a lot of killers in the field and anyone can find daily doubles and catch fire, but it just seems like two of roger/ken/brad/AJ being on the same team would be a really big favourite. it's pretty good that that didn't happen i think.

also lol at anyone who would rather watch three average idiots wager horribly instead of watching some of the all time best back in action.

Brad's not just the GOAT Jeopardy! player, he's well on his way to demonstrating he's the best judge of Jeopardy! talent as well.
