Ike was elected in 1952 and sworn in in 1953 so he would have been wrong even if it was Ike.
Could not believe that all three missed the atom clue yesterday. How could you be a teacher and not now about atoms.

Confirming once again that I am missing nothing by just deleting from the DVR and not watching.

Yup, I was gone most of last week, deleting this week to watch last week. I may pay attention to the teachers next week.

Yes I know. I was trying to come up with the thinking behind their guesses.

Did I miss something? Why did that old man David start to cry and get choked up when he hit the first DD?
It was, weird

You are missing some lolz. I think it was last Wednesday ep. Guy in lead at FJ had ~11,000. Others both in reach. Wagered $400. Got answer right and fist pumped.

I don't know what was with David's reactions yesterday either but it was a pretty cool watching him buzzsaw through the final 20 clues or so.

Looks like Eduardo's fat sweaty head is gonna explode.
Guy can barely speak, how can he actually teach a class

And back to regularly scheduled bad bets

Something like
18000 cover bets.
16000 almost all-in
8800 1200

2nd is a moron. 3rd could have won on massive underbet only because 2nd made a huge error.

Teachers' Tournament:

Day 1

A:10,000
B: 9,000
C: 3,600

Day 2

A: 17,000
B: 17,800
C: 12,200

C gets the DD, $800 & $400 clues left, bets $5k :/

Also final jeopardy

That seems ... pretty easy. Yesterday's was easy too, embarrassing for Ragavan to miss it.

And it continues. 3rd seemingly gives herself no chance to win and then second overbetsto bring her back into it.

Tanya Obreiter: 15800+12605=28405
Daniel Okamura: 12600-12599=1
Kelly Sullivan: 7400-0=7400

I may go back to its more likely that there are massive overbets rather trying for a solo get from 3rd.

I actually like Kelly's bet of $0 if they both get stumped. Not sure the numbers on this though.

How about when Daniel got the last DD with < 1 minute left and the 3 clues remaining were 2k 2k and 1.6k.
Stacks were:
Tanya: 15.8k
Daniel: 8.6K
Kelly: 7.4k

Daniel bets 4K. That amount has to be in one of the most sub-optimal range of bets.
Isn't shoving to take the lead or betting very small much better?
He shoved on FJ anyways....

Shoving is the only rational wager. Anything big enough to matter he loses if he is wrong.
As to FJ
2nd should only bet enough to cover 3rds double up. That would logically force 3rd to shove. Of course it's not pure theory since there is a high incidence of 2nd place over betting in this situation.

2nds bet is just bad. 3rds is defensible based on past observations.

Thoughts on the champ answering "Don't stop Believing" when the song is Believin'...?
Technically wrong, but they're so weird with spelling.

Just weird, bc in the normal rounds if you said something like "Who are the Atlanta Brave?" They'd buzz you and say "You said Brave, not Braves, it's the Atlanta braveS"

I have to assume that when the judges/writers came up with the question, they immediately noticed that and decided that they would take "Believing" as a correct response. There is definitely a difference between that and if someone were to put, say, "Do Not Stop Believin'."

Tanya Obreiter: 6400+3000=3400
Mackenzie Vogt: 15600-3000=12600
Matthew Cooper: 9200+3000=12200

Obviously horrible wagers from 2nd and 3rd. Interesting that 2800 from 1st would have left him with 12,800, exactly twice third.

Second and Third not even trying to win.

Wow that was truly horrendous wagering. Wasn't paying attention at the time but the fact that third place could have won in a RWW situation if she went all in but instead bet 3k is inexcusable too.

LOL!!

Actually, I wonder if this has ever happened in the history of the show, where all 3 contestants wager the same amount. My money would be on no, this is the first time.

Omg dude gets DD on the last clue and has a runaway, can bet up to $4399 to guarantee the runaway, and bets... $5000. Unreal.

And Tuesday's DD and FJ. Yeesh.

Monkey wins by betting randomly.

DD
18k
11k
10k hits DD, only a 2,000 clue remains.
Wagers 3,000. ONLY shoving makes sense here.

FJ
18,000-8,001 9,999
13,000+1,000 14,000
11,000+900 11,900

3rd makes sense. I guess 2nd makes sense if she reads that 3rd will wager max of 1,000 though 2nd should max at 999 in that case. Given her DD wager pretty clear it was just random.

If she wagers the DD correctly she wins 36,001. She pissed away 22,001 and had lower chance to win.

How often do people shove in the "daily double with no clues left, 55% of leader pre-DD"? Anecdotally seems very close to 0%. Final Jeopardy wagering is correct a non-trivial amount of the time but I feel like I've never seen anyone shove on a late DD unless they're at 25% or less of the leader (even then they often don't shove if there's a couple of clues left).
