So you've never seen the label?

I've drunk very little Dos Equis & not for years. But more accurately "Until yesterday I *would* have presumed dos equis meant two horses". It's not something I'd given much thought to. Equis 'obviously' means horse. Is "equis" the Spanish transliteration of "X" or something more to it?

Equis means X. The Spanish word for horse is "caballo".

Is it just a transliteration?

In no Romance language is "horse" anything like "equus"

French - cheval
Spanish - caballo
Romanian - cal
Italian - cavallo
Portuguese - cavalo
Catalan - cavall

I assume he gets it from 'equestrian' derived from Latin equester and equus , "horse".

^^^ from equine but yah.

I'd actually read that caballo = Spanish for horse & always thought it was odd since "Damas y caballeros" is a common ring announcer refrain during a fight with a Hispanic boxer.

Not odd at all. It means "ladies and gentlemen" in most cultures, a "gentleman" was of the upper class, like a knight- thus a horseman.

The French equivalent is"chevalier"

Also, the complete Latin nomenclature of the horse is equus caballus

Thus the source of the word root in those languages

Holly was cute. Too bad she underbet her two DDs (one on 1200 in category that she had already gotten 1600 and 2000, and one second row), particularly the second. Of course then, as so many women who underbet DDs, she then overbet horribly in FJ so she would have lost even if they penalized leader for not understanding what was being asked for in clue.

Thoughts on crediting the FJ answer?

Got the singular of both words, no issue.

What is the princess bride vs princesses and brides.

Not on break. Jeopardy appears on various networks throughout the country so if the station it appears on in your neck of the woods is CBS or an affiliate you were probably out of luck.

For 6 weeks during the summer Jeopardy shows reruns of that season's tournaments, otherwise they have a new show every weekday without fail.

Did it seem like Monday's ep was unusually difficult? The contestants were also pretty crappy but I normally go 20-25/30 per round and barely got 10. Had no clue on a bunch of them.

Also, bad strategy by the winner on the last clue of DJ? She had 13,800 and 2nd had 6,000. She decides to buzz in and take a shot. She got it right but is it worth it? Probably not.

Thought about that too. I assume in real time she wasn't thinking about the math.

Monday did seem unusually hard

Her 2,000 late daily double wager seemed even worse. I didn't check the numbers but seemed like an unnecessary gamble.

i) She might need to buzz in as a prophylactic move - #2 is very likely to proffer an answer.

ii) Why do you think she 'took a shot'? I didn't know the answer but I knew Megyn Kelly wrote a book which mentioned the 2016 GOP primaries & was a female Fox News host so I was 90%+ confident of my answer. No reason to think the Rebecca wasn't equally/more confident.

If she's 90% or even 60%, she has to assume 2nd with 6,000 is equally as likely to get it. So if she chooses not to ring in and lets 2nd take it, then she's in the same position of not having a runaway. I think it's fine to answer there with a decent level of certainty. The ultimate fail would be if she got it wrong, and then 2nd decided to give an answer with anything less than 100% certainty.

I'm surprised the contestants stayed with Bare Knuckle Fighting in the first round and left most of Geography B on the board which would seem like a much easier category , being that since you're given the first letter and much less likely to guess incorrectly.

I did really well Monday, but not so great Tuesday. Idk.

Also, this is Wheel of Fortune, but extremely entertaining.

Must have been a porn afficionado in which case it probably should have been ruled correct. Reminds me of the famous Ken Jennings answer on Jeopardy when asked which garden tool shares it's name with a person with loose moral standards. He answered ,What is a Ho ? The judges were looking for What is a rake .

Jesus. Something like
18,200
17,600
17,200

Person in the lead bets 9,200 for FJ. I can't make any sense of that

Dr. Someone, one of these "-Icians" helps the elderly transition from hospital to home was the $2000 question?
And then the girl answers "what is is physician..." and Alex asks her to be more specific and she finally says Geriatric.

This type of car was developed in the 1940s, by a German blah blah blah
What is a car...? Be more specific

No clue on that wager. 3rd bets well but still can play what if he had just gone big. Can't count on first not cover betting though.

It's roughly half of her current total. That's all I can come up with. No discussion on the J board.
