E2 not quite as strong as E1 for me, but still pretty decent. This show manages to capture family dynamic like no other. He really nails that.

i'm certainly in for the season but ep 2 whilst watchable just wasn't that interesting to me. the last few seconds were probably my favourite funny bit of the two episodes though.

everything in the taylor household on FNL is the gold standard of how to write families btw. i can't think of anything that comes remotely close to the 'realness' of that. maybe six feet under is similar but i have never seen it.

I like the format he's selling the show in, and I'd definitely purchase it if I could somehow get it subtitled. I don't mind the discussion ITT about the price/format, but I think it's pretty moot - you can't really quantify the value of art. I think we can all agree that $5 isn't a price that's going to really be a dealbreaker for anyone )in the sense that they really could not afford it if they reaaaally wanted to see it), and it doesn't seem like a ruthless moneygrab to me. That email is nice, too.

Even though this episode was shorter by a good bit than ep1, it felt longer. The scene with horace and his daughter especially seemed to just drag on forever for me.

There were some great moments though, and overall thought it was still a decent episode. Loved Uncle Pete's smile then scowl when Sylvia entered. Everything from when the tourettes chick entered was amazing.

I just watched episode 1 - I really enjoyed it. The performances were good, the story felt 'real' - Edie Falco seemed to be channeling Carmela Soprano a bit there, but that's just how the character was written. It wasn't that funny - Steven Wright got in a few great lines - but it's not supposed to be.

Regarding the political content - I think it just makes sense given that it happens at a bar and that the series takes into account the fact that it's in a changing Brooklyn neighborhood where working stiffs like Dipaolo's character might come into contact with young liberals. I definitely have wandered into old neighborhood bars like this. Am I already an old man for loving CK's take on the younger generation? Probably.

Re: The $5 thing - just wanting to add my opinion, I was also wary because I didn't know how long the series would go, but I was always going to buy it anyway. After he announced how the pricing would go for the rest of the series I was definitely in.

the first thing i googled after the show was 'emmy eligibility'. that was pretty amazing by laurie metcalfe.

also, i like continuous shots as much as the next guy, but after a while i inevitably start thinking 'wow this is still the same shot, pretty impressive!' and it always takes me out of the scene.

You think they used the closeups of Louis now and again as cuts?

Jesus, that was so intense and real. It evoked many emotions and thoughts for me that don't often come to the surface. Great episode.

Alan Alda's line at the end slayed me.

man, ep 4 is 30 mins long and $3. haven't watched it yet, and i'm not going to stop buying these, but the varying episode length and the fact that we simply have no idea how many episodes there will be is starting to grind my gears just a little.

I feel the same. At least it's still high quality.

I really liked episode 4. Might be my favourite so far.

Yeah agreed, it was really good. They packed a lot into that 30 mins.

Did anyone feel like maybe

Spoiler:
They might have just killed uncle Pete?

I dunno was just a weird moment there.

reading around online, a lot of people (including me) had your thought that's in the spoiler. what made it a bit more confusing was that the sound cut out for a good 3-4 seconds during the lingering shot on the door, which i have not seen ayone mention. whilst watching last night i thought it never came back, however, rewatching today with the volume up it did come back just before the credits began, so those were definitely intentionally silent. i don't know why the sound cut out, there were a couple of issues earlier in the episode for a split second, but none anywhere close to that long. i was half expecting to hear a gunshot, but that doesn't seem in character with this show whatsoever.

i don't think the group conversations at the bar are that good at all. they come across like louis wrote some pretty mediocre standup (that he could probably pull off due to his delivery), but then gave it to four other people to deliver rather clunkily. and yeah i know one of those people is steven wright, but they are just not working for me whatsoever.

i thought 3>1>4>2, but i did find this a mostly enjoyable episode to watch, and really enjoyed this:

'your cum is backed up to your brain, and making you depressed. am i right? am i right?!?'
'......yeah, probably.'

I'm pretty sure 90% of my laughs from this show come from uncle Pete scenes. Alan Alda's has just nailed it delivering his lines.

I think 1/3/4 are all very close, and I might just have liked 4 because it was short and sweet. It's a bit weird comparing 30 minutes to 70 or whatever minutes. 2 was definitely the worst though.

i basically hate uncle pete and am hopeful he actually is dead. though i'm happy that they gave him less to do / made him a little more tolerable in 2-4, as opposed to episode 1 where he was just insufferable.

It's funny how his character affects people. I'm just like you Roy, love him. The line about "what do you think they're for" with regards to Asians had me explode in laughter. My wife is just like you Yeti. She can't stand the character.

Thing is I've met Uncle Pete's in real life, and Louis is basically completely nailing the type, perhaps closer than anyone else has on TV. That's why I like watching him.

Btw totally agree on how bad the bar dialogue was this time. To be fair 3 of the actors at the bar are brutal/terrible. Would have been interesting if they could have been heavyweights too. But then we'd be spending $9 per episode, lol.

Whoever the new guy is out of the bunch at the bar in that episode was truly cringeworthy.

Uncle Pete's character is so very well acted by Alda, on the other hand. I wasn't really fond of the ep overall, but I like what Louis is doing so far with the series.
