i pretty much hate sitcoms. and i was soooooo reluctant to watch veep. but when i finally watched it i loved it. it's worth it to try. i'd say if u don't like the first episode then u can give up. i liked it right away.

I bolded that for a reason. Similar to you, I don't automatically decide to watch new sitcoms, no because I hate them, but because you have to watch them for a while to let characters grow on you. If I had to decide on liking/disliking a sitcom on one episode (or even a few), I'd probably be in the "I hate Seinfeld" camp, too. It took me over a season to like it, now I think it's absolutely elite and I've probably seen every episode 10 times.

i would never spend the time to watch an entire season of tv so that i might end up liking a show after that

With Seinfeld, my girlfriend at the time liked it, so I just sat around with her. In truth, much of season one is still meh to me.

But that may be one reason I don't automatically want to watch sitcoms. Sitcoms aren't standup. To me, they only work when you get to know the characters. That takes time.

I've always liked Tim Robbins and Jack Black, so I thought I'd love this show, but I'm in the camp that it's been pretty bad so far. I can't put my finger on what it is; they have a bunch of great actors but it seems so dumb. Disappointing that a network that has Veep as a comedy can put this out.

The writing, directing, and editing (directing and editing contribute to how poor the comedic timing is in the show) is weak. That's pretty much it. I think a show like this probably needs about 6 episodes to get itself right, but I personally don't think it's headed in the right direction.

Oh good lord, nunnehi is on the warpath ITT. Brace yourselves.

Show is pretty good so far, really liking Robbins and his assistant.

I still think the show is more than 60 percent stupid, which is definitely better than the 75 percent stupid I thought it was in the premiere. The comedic timing is very off in this show (not sure if it's the editing or directing), and anything really good that works is essentially coming from the actors.
Errrm, ya that's Jack Black and this type of comedy for ya. Show's freaking awesome quite being a nit...

lol, almost nothing about the show is "freaking awesome". The show quite literally could be for me, but I think it's flat and not living up to its potential (the actors are way too good for this material to come off so poorly in most cases). I think the comedy is poorly timed, and the show would be much better in different hands.

Just because you aren't able to dig deeply into why comedy does or doesn't work doesn't mean that other people's thoughts about it are wrong. You're just easy to please when it comes to comedy. I'm not. It's gone for so many lowest common denominator gags (while trying to act like it's trying for something better) it's ridiculous. It's sledge hammered the same jokes over and over again. To say the show has potential is one thing (I think it's going the wrong direction, and do not think I'm wrong about that, but we'll see if it continues to go downhill or improve overnight), to say it's "freaking awesome" is a "freaking joke".

Probably not, it hasn't gotten markedly better. If you didn't like the first two episodes I don't see why you'd like the next five.

ROFL. The french scene with the Taliban didn't make any sense but that was so hilarious. The guy comes up and says everyone is under arrest. The girl just randomly scream back "****, eat **** and suck my dick and go get yourself ****ed in the ass". Such a big wtf moment.
