Really enjoyed that, excited to see where they go with this.

I really enjoyed this, I think?
My only issue looking back, was that the actual finding of the killer didn't really use anything they had 'profiled', did it? They just followed the physical evidence, unless I'm forgetting something.

They used the profile to narrow down the list of employees.

Not really. He is right that the physical trace of the metal shaving got them to the employer, the killer not leaving an address and taking days off got them to a suspect and then that was basically it they went to his house and blood happened.

Perhaps they will develop this more and it is just a coincidence that in hunting a cannibal killer they seek the advice of a cannibal killer who has been operating under the radar for decades.
I didnt really think they were hinting he picked up cannibalism from this, maybe I just missed it though

I didnt like him making a phone call from the office at the building site, it seems like any investigation afterwards into what happened would try to figure out why he snapped then and checking phone records seems like an obvious step. Seems like a mistake the Hannibal from the books/movies would never ever make. I guess coming in with a preconceived notion of the character might make for disappointment

The better question is why would Hannibal tip him off at all?

He is interested by Graham, predicted what would happen with a tip off, and wanted to see how Graham would react

ive never read the books so i'm a bit confused about something.

lecter was doing the killing? or was he just following that dude around and then eating parts of his victim? if so, does he now find a new serial killer?

I was under the impression he only killed and ate parts of the last vic, which he did to mess with Graham.

The dad did all of the kills and eating except the copycat they found in the desert, which was Hannibal.

Question I have is, how many people knew the specific details of the case, like the bodies being hung by antlers? That would seem to limit the potential pool of copycat candidates to people involved in the investigation.

Haven't read the books, and haven't seen the movies, but know a fair bit about it. I thought this was hands down the best Pilot of the TV season. As someone else said, Mads' accent is really hard to understand, and it's something I think they'll try to fix in future episodes (like Jonny Lee Miller in Elementary). I wish the ratings were better, but think it will do well in DVR, because people probably won't want to watch something like this right before bed.

For those that don't like it (or didn't like it much), can you go into more detail why? The narrative is slightly confusing, which I'm figuring could play some role into it, but it doesn't bother me. The show has an excellent cast, so there's no problems there, in my opinion.

Wubbie, my guess is that Hannibal is playing with Will while trying to get caught. He's just trying to open his eyes to what he doesn't or or can't see (keep in mind the conversation they had about eye contact).

Rendle, love that The Shining homage. Did you notice that yourself?

You must have missed the reference to Freddie Lounds and the fact the press dubbed the first serial killer, the [a word I forgot] Shrike so it seems that more people than those on the team knew.

I really enjoyed the show but don't like that it seems like they are going to have Lecter copycat that week's serial killer each week. He should be an original, the original.

He copied the killer this week so Graham could 'see the positive'. I don't think he's necessarily going to be doing that weekly.

Also, are we to assume Hannibal fed Graham a piece of that chick when he brought him breakfast?

I think that was a misdirection to try to make you think that he was eating some human stuff, but I doubt it was. It was still a hard scene to watch, and was played for maximum was it or wasn't it value, especially with the shot choices.

I've read that this Hannibal will learn things from the serial killers he's helping the FBI track down and the implication was he would be copycating them.

Spoiler:
Also, I think we are meant to infer that Hannibal fed Graham some human flesh and that, according to another thing I read, is something he's going to do to the rest of the FBI team at some point when he hosts a dinner party and feeds them loin. Loin of what isn't stated. If I remember correctly, the Hannibal of the books hosted dinner parties where he fed his guests human flesh.

Its not scary in a horror sense, its just slightly creepy and dark much like the tone of Dexter imo, but with better acting so far from the supporting characters. They do a good job fitting it for the appropriate boundaries of network TV without making it feel like its having to do so.

Yeah the pilot at least really has a premium TV feel. If HBO or Showtime passed on it I'll bet they're kicking themselves after seeing the pilot.
